Greta L. Cheney
Greta L. Cheney, 72, of Rutland, died Nov. 21, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Loysburg, Pa., the daughter of Elias Porter and Elmira Lynch.
Mrs. Cheney worked at the Rutland News Co. as the office manager.
She enjoyed “running the roads.”
Survivors include a daughter, Linden Cheney of Florida; two sons, Dean Cheney of Springfield and Lee Cheney of Alaska; a sister, Doris Sanders of Florida; a granddaughter and two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Cheney in 1999, and several brothers.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Wilfred J. Berg Rites
HUBBARDTON — The funeral service for Wilfred J. Berg, 82, who died Nov. 23, 2002, was held Tuesday at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Edward Hackett, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Rutland, officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery.
American Legion Post 31 of Rutland provided military honors. James Burke made the flag presentation.
Bearers were Donald Berg, Kelly Berg, Jason Arnado and Wes Martin.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Edward H. Jagelski Sr.
Edward H. Jagelski Sr., 86, died suddenly Monday evening, November 25, 2002, upon arrival at Springfield Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1916, in Cohoes, New York, the son of John and Sophie (Janucz) Jagelski. He attended schools in Cohoes, N.Y., and he was an honorary member of the Springfield High School Class of 1934. He worked in Albany, N.Y., for several before moving to Springfield.
On March 24, 1940, he married
Evelyn Austin in Cohoes, N.Y. He was a machinist at the Fellows Gear Shaper Company, and retired in 1978 after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, and was an avid swimmer and diver for many years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid sports enthusiast, closely following and supporting Springfield School athletics.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Springfield; a son, Edward H. Jagelski Jr. of Taftsville; three grandchildren, Holly Jagelski Aldrich of Springfield, Edward J. Jagelski of Newport, R.I., and Heather Jagelski McGreer of Keene, N.H., and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie McGreer; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife; and two sisters; and two brothers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Raymond Fournier officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove cemetery in North Springfield.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Holy Family Catholic School, 38 Pleasant Street, Springfield, or to the Visiting Nurses of Southeastern Vermont, 366 River Street, Springfield, Vt., 05156.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

WOODSTOCK — Paulina M. Young, 76, died Nov. 26, 2002, at her home.

WOODSTOCK — Elmer Emery, 93, a former longtime resident of Woodstock, died Nov. 26, 2002, at Peabody Home in Franklin, N.H.

Beverly O. Cox
BALTIMORE — Beverly O. Cox, 72, died Nov. 25, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Newark, the daughter of Leo and Ardell (Powers) Goodwin.
She attended schools in Sutton.
She married
Maynard Cox on June 28, 1947, in Lyndon.
Mrs. Cox and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Albany for 16 years.
She enjoyed reading, bird watching and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her husband of Baltimore; a daughter, Faith Goodwin of Springfield; two sons, Dan Cox and Jeff Cox, both of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Goodwin of Sutton and Neil Goodwin of Troy, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Gosley and Pauline Gleason; and two brothers, Donald Goodwin and Reginald Goodwin.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Dana Longever, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland cemetery in Springfield.
Friends may call Friday at the Assembly of God Church one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Eckehard H. Latz
MANCHESTER — Eckehard Herbert “Ed” Latz, 59, died Nov. 25, 2002, at home.
He was born March 27, 1943, in Lauban, Germany, the son of Elsa and Hebert Latz.
He graduated from the University of Hamburg and the University of Berlin, Germany. He later graduated from Castleton State College in 1971 and received a master’s degree from Middlebury College in 1974.
Mr. Latz was a teacher and coach at Burr and Burton Academy for 32 years. He was chairman both the social studies and foreign language departments, and was one of the pioneers of the soccer program at Burr and Burton Academy, coaching numerous Vermont State Champion Teams. He also was a professor at Middlebury College with their world-renowned summer language immersion program. Mr. Latz was the director of the Ormsby Hill Program, which enabled many talented, underprivileged inner city students to attain a quality education in Manchester, for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his mother of Bavaria; a brother, Torsten Latz of Germany; and two nieces.
The memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at Burr and Burton Academy. Mr. Latz will be cremated.
There will be no calling hours.

Raymond H. Robinson
NORTH BENNINGTON — The memorial service for Raymond Harold Robinson, who died Nov. 5, 2002, will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Jermain United Methodist Church in White Creek, N.Y., with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor, officiating.

Alma P. Pradon Rites
SHAFTSBURY — The graveside service for Alma P. “Pat” Pradon, 70, who died Nov. 12, 2002, was held Saturday in Shaftsbury Center cemetery with the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Donn W. Pelsue Rites
BENNINGTON — The memorial service for Donn Wilbur Pelsue, 68, who died Nov. 22, 2002, was held Tuesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Blue, pastor of the Missionary Alliance Church, officiating.
Organist was Marion Carlson and soloist was Deb Gregory, Mr. Pelsue’s niece. Larry Callender played the tuba.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Barbara J. Connelly
WALLINGFORD — Barbara Joan Connelly, 82, of Wallingford, died Friday morning Nov. 22, 2002, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born March 3, 1920, in Muskegon, Mich., the daughter of Leslie John and Agnes (Witt) Young.
Mrs. Connelly attended St. Joseph High School in Muskegon, Mich.
She married
Francis T. Connelly on Sept. 20, 1941.
Mrs. Connelly relocated to Wallingford in 1994.
She had a vibrant faith and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Rosary Altar Society.
Mrs. Connelly loved family, friends, the outdoors, gardening, sewing, crafts, and pets. She enjoyed reading and learning her whole life and had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Marie Whooley of Clarendon; two sons, Terrence Connelly of Wyandotte, Mich., and Louis Connelly of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Alberta Nieces of Muskegon, Mich., and Joyce Poll of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two brothers, Paul Young of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and Russell Young of Musskegon, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis T. Connelly, on April 3, 1999; and three brothers, Conrad Young, Victor Young and Donald Young.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial Mass is pending.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Mount Olivet cemetery in Saginaw, Mich.
Arrangements are by the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home.

Wilfred J. Berg
HUBBARDTON — Wilfred J. Berg, 82, died Nov. 23, 2002, at Haven Health Care Center in Rutland.
He was born in Rutland April 3, 1920, the son of Wilfred and Flora Berg.
He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters.
He was employed for more than 40 years with Brunalli Construction Co. in Southington, Conn., retiring years ago.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are a son, Donald S. Berg of West Rutland; a daughter, Judy Arnado of Rutland; a brother, Verdie Berg of Corinth, N.Y.; a sister, Irene Short of Watertown, N.Y.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Berg, and a sister, Mabel Berg.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery in Rutland.
