LAWRENCE IRVING "LARRY" GARRISON, JR.
HIGHGATE -- Lawrence Irving "Larry" Garrison, Jr., 27, a lifelong Highgate resident passed away unexpectedly on Sunday Jan. 27, 2002, at his residence on the Hanna Road. He was born in St. Albans on Aug. 19, 1974, where he lived with his mother and father. He was loved dearly by family and friends.
He was a large fan of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, the Minnesota Vikings and the Colorado Avalanche. He enjoyed Banshee riding, hunting, and spending time with friends and family.
His pride and joy were his two children, Samantha and Andrew Cameron-Garrison. He leaves behind his mother and step-father, Paula and Michael Pier of Highgate; his father, Larry Garrison, Sr. of St. Albans; four sisters, Andrea, Kristen, and Danielle Pier of Highgate, and Amanda and her husband, Ralph Stine of Burlington; the mother of his children; Joeleen E. Cameron and a close dear friend, Sabrina Boyd; his maternal grandmother, Janice Montgomery of Fairfax; an aunt Linda Montgomery of Grand Isle; an aunt and uncle, Karen and Stuart Combs of Swanton; an uncle, Jimmy Montgomery of Williston; an aunt and uncle, Ethan and Sylvia Garrison of St. Albans; an aunt and uncle, Marcie and Chris Garrison of St. Albans; an aunt, Kathy Garrison of Chester; a special friend Tim Bentley; several cousins, and many other friends and acquaintances.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church on Congress Street with Pastor William Simmons officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Samantha and Andrew Cameron-Garrison Education Fund, c/o Paula and Michael Pier, 83 Meadow Lane, Highgate, Vt. 05459. HENRY E. LARSEN
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Henry E. Larsen, age 82, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center.
He was born in Aalborg, Denmark, son of the late Johannes and Christiane (Andersen) Larsen, May 31, 1919. He married Anna Iversen on Aug. 10, 1940.
In Denmark, he served in the Danish Merchant Marine Corps. before immigrating to the United States in 1949. He worked at the Central Vermont Railroad, retiring as a car inspector in 1979. He was an avid gardener, especially organic gardening before it became popular. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He will be fondly remembered by them as providing "Grampy's Taxi" whenever they needed him.
Besides his wife, Anna, of 61 years, he is survived by five children, Thor Larsen and his wife Susan of Columbus, Ohio, Bea Bevins and her husband David of Burnt Hills, N.Y., Kathy Buck and her husband Walter of St. Albans, Allan Larsen of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Judy Garceau and her husband Roland of Sheldon; nine grandchildren, Erik Larsen, Michael and Tony Bevins, Maura and Abigail Buck, and Amanda, Delisca, Courtney and Gussy Garceau; one great-grandchild, Dariann Bevins; one brother, Otto Larsen of Fredrikshaven, Denmark. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by five brothers and two sisters, all of Denmark.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 152 Bank St., Burlington, Vt. 05401, or to the Breast Cancer Society in care of the funeral home office. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
CHARLES L. PURRIER
MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Charles L. Purrier, 82, husband of Beverly (Taisey) Purrier, died Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Genesis Elder Care in Morrisville.
He was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Montgomery Center, where he was a member, former deacon and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Montgomery Community Baptist Church. He was involved in town affairs, having served on the school board, as zoning administrator, justice of the peace, cemetery commissioner and lister.
He was a 1938 graduate of Richford High School, where he was a member of F.F.A. and earned his American Farmer Degree. Following graduation, he attended V.T.C. in Randolph for one year. He then operated the family dairy farm until 1955, and then served one term as state representative for Montgomery. Following that, he was the first distributor for I.B.A. in Northern Vermont and New Hampshire for 30 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a former member of the Montgomery Grange, Farm Bureau and the Enosburg Lions Club. He was a 50-year member of the Missisquoi Lodge #9 F&AM of Richford.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Purrier; a son and his wife, Charles R. and Annie Purrier and their children, Virginia, Elinor and Ryland Purrier, all of Montgomery Center; a brother-in law, Robert Taisey of Hadlyne, Conn.; and several first cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Montgomery Center Community Baptist Church. Interment will be in the spring in the Montgomery Center Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

HELEN V. P. GLADDEN
RICHFORD -- Helen V. P. Gladden, age 83, wife of Edward L. Gladden, Sr., died Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home following a long battle with cancer.
She was born April 17, 1918, in Sutton, P.Q. Canada, the daughter of the late N. Dean and Edith (McKenney) Waterhouse.
She married Edward Gladden April 17, 1937, and they lived at their Pinnacle Farm in Richford for the past 64 years, where she enjoyed working on the farm with her husband, helping with milking, haying, sugaring and working in the woods. She loved gardening, especially vegetables and flowers, sharing with friends, knitting, sewing, quilting, chair caning, canning, mountain hiking and snowmobiling. She was known for her hospitality and the great meals she prepared and served and for the love and concern she had for other people. Her home was the site of many socials for young and old through the years. Helen had a real zest for life. She was a member of the Abercorn Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Gladden, of Richford; a daughter and her husband, Esther and Bruce Knutson of Barre; a daughter-in-law, Cyndi Gladden of Martinsville, Va.; her grandchildren, Randy Gladden and his wife, Tia, of Oxford, M.E., Debbie (Knutson) Bezerra and her husband, Alex, of Clinton, Mass.; foster grandchildren, Priscilla (Mills) Ela and her husband, Richard, of Brookfield, Mass., Buffy Joyal of Martinsville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Erielle Gladden, Raluca Bezerra and Jonathan Ela; a brother, Willie Waterhouse, of Sutton, Que.; two brothers-in-law, Fred Biggs, of Sutton, Que., and Gerald Gladden and his wife, Betty, of Walla Walla, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Edith Waterhouse of Oshawa, Ont., and Carol Waterhouse of Woodsville, N.H.; cousins, Homer Clark and Robert Waterhouse, both of Richford, and Edith Colton of Argyle, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Edward L. Gladden, Jr.; four sisters, Mary Bailey, Bernice Clark, Ethel Biggs, and Edith Waterhouse; and two brothers, Norman and Hayden Waterhouse.
Funeral services are on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 140 Main St., Richford. The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the funeral. Interment will be this spring in Berkshire Center Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford.

OLIVETTE LaBRIE
SWANTON -- Mrs. Olivette (Gagne) LaBrie, age 82, died Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2002, with her loving family at her bedside, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center. She was born in Roxton Falls, Que., Canada, August 7, 1919, daughter of the late Lucien and Dolores (Betourney) Gagne. She married Alcide T. LaBrie May 25, 1938. She was employed at the York Manufacturing Co., in the sewing department for several years. Later, she was associated with her husband, Alcide, in the operations of the Gadue Funeral Home. They retired in 1984. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Hi-Swans Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Rita and Gerald Moffitt of Bennington, Roger and Yvette LaBrie of Essex, Gerard and Patricia LaBrie of Highgate Springs, Jeannette and John Butler of Bennington, Dolores and Peter Norris of Monkton; seven grandsons and their wives, James and Leslie Moffitt, Brian Moffitt and Cricket Fagan, Peter and Daeven Norris, Michael Norris, James and Karen Butler, Mark and Penny Mattison, Jason and Heaven Mattison; eight granddaughters, Debra DesCognets, Cindy LaBrie, Laurie Labrie and her husband Danny O'Toole, Lisa LaBrie, Helen Norris, Colleen and her husband Serge McKhann, Christine Butler and Catherine Butler; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Normand and his wife Georgette Gagne; sister-in-law Henriette Gagne, all of Highgate Center; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and a very special friend, Delia LaPan of Swanton. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Alcide on Oct. 24, 1987; and by her son Laurent LaBrie; daughter Annette LaBrie; brothers Rosaire Gagne and Roger Gagne; and son-in-law Harry Mattison.
She will be remembered by her family, mostly for her unconditional love.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity, by her cousin, Father Leonidas Laroche. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Private interment will follow the Mass in the LaBrie family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception will follow the Mass for family and friends in St. Anne's (Church of the Nativity) Parish Center. FREDERICK M. "JACK" PARADEE
UNDERHILL/MILTON -- Frederick M. "Jack" Paradee. 70, of Roy Drive, in Underhill died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
Jack was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Cambridge, the son of the late Guy and Zelda Lamell Paradee. His family moved to Milton early in his life and he graduated from Milton High School in 1950.
Following his graduation, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving his country aboard the USS Robert L. Wilson in Panama and off the coast of Korea during the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1954, he attended the Vermont Police Academy in Pittsford where he later became an instructor. He later went on to graduate from Babson College, where he furthered his law enforcement expertise.
On June 22, 1985, Jack married Beverly Russin in Georgia.
Jack was a very community-minded person. He served as police chief in Milton for several years. For many years, he served as a flagman and race official at the Catamount Stadium in Milton. Having played baseball in the Navy, he coached local games and served as umpire for many leagues. He belonged to the American Legion Post #57 in Milton, Seneca Lodge #40, F&AM, where he also held the position of past master. As a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, he served as past patron for Chittenden Chapter #59 OES. He belonged to the Shriner's Cairo Temple, the Patron and Drum Corp and was a member of the Rutland Corp #105 Royal Order of Jester's. A member of the Vermont Association of Private Investigators, he was also a charter member of the Vermont State Police Auxiliary. Jack most recently worked with his son Guy as an accident reconstructionist at IARS, Inc. in Rutland, as well as being part-time custodian with his wife, Beverly, at the Underhill ID School. Jack loved to hunt and fish, and he enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the Village of Milton. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Paradee, of Underhill, and her son, Gerald Russin, and his wife, Mia, of Jericho; his former wife, Patricia Shangraw, of Essex, and their children, Guy Paradee and his wife, Maureen, of Sudbury, Deborah Paradee and her fiance, Joseph Carl, of Burlington, Michael Paradee and his wife, Martha, of Jeffersonville, Jeffrey Paradee and his wife, Kimberly, of Jeffersonville, Scott Paradee and his wife, Sheila, of Milton, and Penny Terry and her husband, Tim, of South Hero; his grandchildren, Melissa, Ian, Colin, Megan, Travis, Chris, Halie, Tiffany, Katie, Kristin, Shannon, Ashley, Curtis, and (Buckwheat) Jerry Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Melici, Kevin, Hannah, Marcus and Jakob. He leaves two sisters, Barbara Russell and her husband, Leonard, of Milton and Marjorie Bourgeois and her husband, John, of Milton; his brother and sister-in-laws, David and Patricia Russin, of Milton, Gloria and Stanley Tracey, of Milton, Robert and Sylvia Russin, of Underhill, Nancy Russin of Westford, Linda Mathieu of Westford, Larry and Beatrice Russin of Underhill, Roger and Colleen Russin of Cambridge, Kathy and David Aube of Hinesburg, and Marilyn and Alie Machia of Hinesburg; his nieces, Paulette Peltier and Jacquelyn Root of Milton and nephews, John Bourgeois of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Tommy Russell of Milton. Jack also leaves his mentor and very good friend, John Greane, of Underhill.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Village Cemetery this spring.

IRENE F. LADEN
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Irene F. Laden, age 86, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Wolcott the daughter of the late Chester A. and Agnes E. (Hodgdon) Clark.
She was a resident of Enosburg most of her life and was a member of the Enosburg United Methodist Church. She was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in France and Belgium as a nurse. Irene helped her husband run the family farm and enjoyed playing cards.
She is survived by a son and his wife, James and Fannie Laden of Fairfield; a daughter, Patricia Leyden of Jamestown, R.I.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Carpenter and her husband Mark, their children, Nicholas and Noah of Fairfield; Elizabeth Laden of Hamden, Conn.; Timothy Lackie and his wife Darcy, their children, Amanda and Meridith of So. Kingston, R.I., and Julia Gerald of Boston, Mass.; two step-brothers, Bernard Clark and his wife Betty of Sheldon, and Francis Clark of Saxon River; brother-in-law Fred Barnet of Tulsa, Okla.; special friends who looked out for Irene, George and Margaret Bryce of Enosburg Falls; several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Laden; two brothers, Alden Clark and Ernest Robideau; three sisters, Arline Discenza, Sybil Barnet and Margaret Clark; a step-brother, Harry Clark; a step-sister, Charlene Donna; and a daughter-in-law, Fay Marie (Bryce) Laden.

GEORGE R. AUSTIN III
ST. ALBANS - George R. Austin III, 51, passed away Thursday morning at his home. He was born in Norfolk, Va., Oct. 10, 1950, the son of the late George R. Austin, Jr., and Ann Renaudette Austin. He retired, due to illness, on July 17, 2001 from Fonda Group where he had worked for 18 years as a machine operator.
George was a die-hard New York Yankee baseball fan and Boston Patriots football fan, enjoyed camping, listening to music, special barbecues in the backyard with family and friends, and the annual Bullmoose Bash. He graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Conn., served in the United States Army, and was formerly a member of Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion. He was a very special person, always kind to everyone, and remembered for his curly red hair and good sense of humor. He was a great Dad to his kids and step-kids and he will always be loved and greatly missed.
Survivors include his mother; Ann Renaudette Austin of St. Albans; his fiancée, close companion and best friend, Elizabeth Rix; son and close friend Gary Rix of St. Albans; daughters, Barbara and Junior Dunican of Colchester and Tressa Rix and her fiancé Dana of Fairfax; brothers, James Austin of Alburg Springs and Frank Austin of Burlington; a sister, Susan and her husband; John Morits of St. Albans; and grandchildren, Dylan, Dustin, D.J. and Mya. He also leaves his special friends, Chris Leroux, Gary Brown and Louis Mott; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and very close friends from the Fonda Group. He was predeceased by his son, George R. Austin IV on Sept. 9, 1996; his father, George Austin, Jr., in 1997; and a sister, Sandra Bell in 1996.
