Minnie E. Vezina
SPRINGFIELD — Minnie Elizabeth (Laura) Vezina, 90, died Nov. 16, 2002, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 11, 1912.
She married
Edmund E. Vezina on March 26, 1928, in Royalton. He died in 1998.
She enjoyed boating, the beach and camping.
Survivors include a brother, Lucian Laura of Charlestown, N.H.; a sister, Elsie Vesper of South Royalton; two daughters, Lorena Cook of Chester and Marie Nichols of Kingston, Mass.; two sons, Edward Vezina of Stuart, Fla., and Richard Vezina of North Hartland; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson; 10 brothers; and five sisters.
Mrs. Vezina will be cremated, and a committal service will be held at a later date in Pleasant View cemetery in Chester.
There will be no calling hours.

Rose M. Fleming
MANCHESTER — Rose M. Fleming, 81, died Nov. 28, 2002, at Equinox Terrace, where she had been a resident.
She was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Leo and Jennie (Drapak) Matejunas.
She married
Ralph Fleming on June 10, 1944, in Italy, while serving as a WAC during World War II. Mr. Fleming died in 1994.
They moved to Manchester after the war and together operated Fleming Hardware Store and Fleming Mobil Station.
Mrs. Fleming was a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Paul’s Church, and was a former president of the Catholic Daughters. She taught catechism and was a Christian Youth Organization volunteer.
She was a member of the Manchester County Club.
She enjoyed golf, gardening, sewing, painting and sketching.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Fleming of Manchester Center and Gregory Fleming of Derby; three daughters, Victoria Fleming of Manchester Center, Patricia Fleming of Jericho and Cynthia Kilburn of Cornish, Maine; a brother, Albert Matejunas of Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters, Helen Keenan of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Stella Fant of New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Anton Matejunas.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in Manchester Center. Burial will follow in Dellwood cemetery in Manchester Village.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.

Gary V. Forrest
LONGMEADOW, Mass. — Gary V. Forrest, 59, died Nov. 16, 2002, at the Jewish Geriatric Center in Longmeadow.
He was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Springfield, Vt., the son of Hilton and Virginia (Aiken) Forrest.
He graduated from Springfield (Vt.) High School in 1961 and Wentworth Institute in Boston.
He married
Rochelle Broomfield in May 1982.
Mr. Forrest worked for Hamilton Standard in Windsor, Conn., as an engineering technician, and later for Combustion Engineering, resigning due to health reasons.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He enjoyed photography, cars, motorcycles, skiing and music.
Survivors include his wife of Longmeadow; a son, Noah, and a daughter, Nicole, both of Longmeadow; a sister, Maureen Forrest of Noblesville, Ind.; a brother, Kevin Forrest of Reading, Vt.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Michelle, in 1988.

Aarne K. Komulainen Rites
LUDLOW — The funeral service for Aarne Konstantine Komulainen, 78, who died Nov. 3, 2002, was held Saturday at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home with Jane Buswell officiating. Burial followed in Pleasantview cemetery in Ludlow.
Ludlow American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars provided military honors.
Pallbearers were Bob Pierson, Mike Tuomisto, Art Scales, Earl Washburn, Dale Burgess and Wayne Komulainen. Honorary pallbearer was Charles Tuomisto.
A reception was held at the VFW following the burial.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Ludlow.
Gerald E. Morrissey Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Gerald E. Morrissey, 85, who died Nov. 14, 2002, was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor, the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington and the Rev. George Dupuis, pastor of St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Arlington, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.
American Legion Post 13 provided military honors. Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk presented the flag to Mr. Morrissey’s wife, Phyllis. Ken Ash sounded taps.
Bearers were Jason Morrissey, Mark Morrissey, Joshua Maloney, Walter Morrissey II, Andrew Morrissey and Patrick Simon.
A prayer service was held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceding the funeral Mass.
Sunday afternoon at the funeral home members of the Knights of Columbus were led in the recitation of the rosary by the Rev. Demasi, chaplain. The Bennington Elks Lodge 567 also conducted their service.
A reception for friends and family was held at the Mount Anthony Country Club following the committal service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Margaret Foti
Margaret Foti, 78, of Rutland, died Nov. 18, 2002, at her home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Rutland, the daughter of Dominic and Mary Notte.
She worked at the Vermont Department of Human Services, retiring after 23 years of service.
Mrs. Foti was a member of St. Peter’s Church.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Foti and James Foti, both of Rutland; five sisters, Anne Notte and Virginia Adams, both of Rutland, Victoria Layton of Lake George, N.Y., Barbara Sibella of Enfield, Conn., and Mary Ann Neville of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Foti Sr., and by a brother, Victor Notte.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Frank Battease
DANBY — Francis “Frank” Battease, 80, died Nov. 19, 2002, at Mountain View Center Genesis ElderCare.
He was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Castleton, the son of Byron and Bess (Moody) Battease.
He owned and operated a dairy farm in Danby for many years, and was a school bus driver for the town of Danby for 25 years.
Mr. Battease had served the town of Danby as a selectman and as a member of the School Board.
Survivors include three daughters, Sally McLellan of Danby, Frances Mailhiot of Tucson, Ariz., and Kim Fielding of Manchester; a son, Byron Battease of Danby; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Woodard) Battease; and a brother, John Battease.
The graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Danby-Scottsville cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Louis R. Jacobs
BRANDON — Louis Rowland Jacobs, 80, died Nov. 18, 2002, at Haven Health Care in Rutland.
He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Louis and Hattie (Anderson) Jacobs.
He graduated from W.C. Mepham High School in Bellmore, Long Island, N.Y., in 1940.
He worked as a general contractor in Long Island for 22 years, and owned and operated Lou’s Saw Filing Business in Brandon for several years.
Mr. Jacobs was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II aboard the USS Rankin in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of the Merrick, Long Island, Fire Department for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 55 in Brandon, and a charter member of the Brandon-Forest Dale Lions Club.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Jacobs of Brandon, whom he married
June 20, 1946; three daughters, Barbara Blanco of Miami, Fla., Kathy Hopperstad and Debra Jennings, both of Brandon; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jackie Jacobs; and a sister, Hattie Wallmuller.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Brandon with the Rev. Richard White and the Rev. George Gustke, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church in Rutland, co-officiating. American Legion Post 55 will provide military honors. A private burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
