Ervin G. Clough Jr.
ALSTEAD, N.H. — Ervin G. “Chip” Clough Jr., 50, died Oct. 31, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1951, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the son of Ervin Sr. and Kathryn (Dubois) Clough.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1970 and attended New Hampshire Technical College in Claremont.
He married
Heidi Spaulding on Nov. 17, 1979, in Bellows Falls, Vt.
Mr. Clough worked for numerous garages in Bellows Falls, Vt., and Keene, and later as a truck driver, and for Robertson Paper in Bellows Falls, Vt.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion in Alstead, a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and active in Boy Scouting in Alstead. He also coached the town soccer teams in Alstead.
Mr. Clough was a professional luthier and a musician. He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife of Alstead; his mother of Saxtons River, Vt.; three sons, Tyler, Brad and Adam Clough, all of Alstead; two brothers, Robert Clough of Kingston, R.I., and Paul Clough of Bellows Falls, Vt.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Walpole with the Rev. Michael Gendron officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Churchyard in Bellows Falls, Vt.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.
Ruth St. Marie Manley
Ruth St. Marie Manley, born December 31, 1908, in Malone, N.Y., daughter of Belle and Alphonse St. Marie, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, in Concord, Mass. Ruth, wife of Walter Manley, raised their children in Rutland. After retiring from Howe Scale, she moved to the Orlando, Fla., area, returning to Massachusetts these past three years. While in Rutland, Ruth was a homemaker, knitted, played bridge and was active in St. Peter’s parish where her children attended school at St. Peter’s and Mount St. Joseph Academy.
Surviving Ruth are four children, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three sisters.
Surviving children are son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Linda Manley, their daughter Stephanie Manley, and son Christopher Manley and his wife Tricia, all of Denver, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Chet Dymsza, Concord, Mass., their daughters, Kimberly and her husband Tom Spock, Providence, R.I., and children, Nathaniel, Melissa and Christopher, Laurie and her husband Stephen Cullinane, Lunenburg, Mass., and their children, Kaitlyne, Megan and Brittany, Paula and her husband Jeffrey Junker, Northboro, Mass., and their children, Julia and James; son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Susanne Manley, Shawnee, Okla., and their children, Heather Manley, Ashville, N.C., and Michael Manley, Dallas, Texas, and son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Ann Manley, Orlando, Fla., and their children, Bryan Manley and Charlotte Manley, Orlando, Fla. Ruth leaves three sisters, Sister Monica St. Marie, Wilmington, Del., Rita Fitzsimmons and her husband Robert, Malone, N.Y., and Helen Dalphin, Hanover, N.H.
She was a member of the Sodality of the Most Holy Rosary at St. Peter’s Church.
Ruth was a great example of independence and perseverance. She never lost her sharp wit, her deep faith and her love of children. her family loves her and shall miss her.
Friends may call on Saturday at the Clifford Funeral Home from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Services will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 2.
Reception with family members will be at Royal’s Hearthside on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Mary M. Kearney
Mary Margaret Kearney, 83, of Rutland, died Oct. 28, 2002, at Heartland Nursing Home in Adelphi, Md.
She was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Rutland, the daughter of John and Margaret (Long) Kearney.
She was a college graduate.
Miss Kearney worked for the federal government, retiring many years ago.
Survivors include a friend, Mary Cavanagh, of Mount Rainier, Md.
She was predeceased by a sister, Anna Kearney, in 2000.
The graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. in Calvary cemetery with the Rev. Andre Houle, pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Rutland, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Genevieve T. Biggi
Genevieve T. Biggi, 79, of Rutland, died Oct. 31, 2002, at Mountain View Center Genesis ElderCare.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Biggi of Rutland; two sons, Richard Biggi of Brandon and Thomas Biggi of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Pauline Taggart of Rutland; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services are pending for Tuesday.

May M. Billings
May McKirryher Billings, 93, formerly of Middlebury, died October 30, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home. She was born August 30, 1909, in Hemingford, Canada. She was educated in Hemingford and came to the United States at an early age.
Mrs. Billings married
Allen Billings Nov. 26, 1935, and he died in October 1976.
Mrs. Billings lived most of her life in Middlebury and worked 25 years at Middlebury College.
Survivors are four granddaughters, Barbara Generess, Linda Generess, Eilene Generess and Carolyn Generess, all of North Clarendon; a brother, Ernest McKirryher of Rutland Town; four sisters, Esther Horn of Rutland, Ruth B. Wiggin and Myrtle L. McKirryher, both of Rutland Town, Doris K. Premo of Massena, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lois Generess; a grandson, Michael Generess; a brother, Martin McKirryher; and two sisters, Ethel Wallace and Roberta Bridge.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Tossing Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Lex, pastor of the Mendon United Methodist Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in East Clarendon cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Those who wish may send contributions to a charity of one’s choice.
Tossing Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Oscar E. Maki
PROCTOR — Oscar E. Maki, 99, died Thursday, October 31, 2002, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.
Mr. Maki was born on July 20, 1903, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of Israel and Amanda Laaksonen.
Oscar was a longtime resident of Proctor and was employed as a machinist by the Vermont Marble Company for many years.
He was active in the Green Mountain Chorus for several years and also volunteered many hours of service to RSVP and the Rutland County Women’s Network and various area nursing homes.
He belonged to the Rutland Eagles Club, Rutland Moose Club and the Finnish Society in Ludlow.
Oscar loved spending time at the camp he built on Lake Hortonia.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jean Rossier and her husband Charles of Ferrisburg and Linda Lancour and her husband Steve of Northfield; a grandson, Bret Griswold and his wife Dawn; a granddaughter, Heidi Ambrose and her husband Richard; a grandson, Jamie Lancour and his companion Sue Ellen Steady; a granddaughter, Michelle Heald and her husband Clay; a grandson, Christopher Lancour and his wife Tiffany; two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Eric Rossier; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rose in 1971; a grandson, Eric Griswold; six brothers and three sisters of Finland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery in Proctor.
Friends may call on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Mr. George R. Harvey
CASTLETON — Mr. George Roy Harvey, 74, died suddenly Wednesday evening, October 30, 2002, at his home in Castleton.
Mr. Harvey was born on October 17, 1928, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the son of the late Charles and Mary E. (Daigle) Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Germany-Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star and also the United Nations Service Medal.
He married
Rose Pelletier in Castleton, Vt., on May 28, 1955, and the couple have made their home in Castleton for many years. Mr. Harvey was first employed for Carpenter’s Slate Company where he was employed for a few years, then he started his career as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator with Duval Excavation of Poultney. His final employment was for Goddard Transportation in Castleton where he was employed for many years until his retirement.
He is a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Castleton, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Crippen Fellows Post 50 American Legion of Castleton and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3907 of Fair Haven.
He is survived by his wife of Castleton; his two daughters, Theresa Harvey of Castleton, Cecile Giles of Knoxville, Tennessee; his three sons, Larry Harvey and Ron Harvey, both of Castleton, Phil Harvey of Hubbardton; his four sisters, Jean Robinson of St. Anthony, Idaho, Rita Rivard of Massachusetts, Ida Fiske and Dolly Beayon, both of Castleton; 10 grandchildren; and also by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, George Harvey; and by three brothers, Wilfred Harvey, Raymond Harvey and Charlie Harvey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Castleton. The Rev. “Rick” Danielson, Parish Priest, will officiate. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Mary’s cemetery in Fair Haven.
Visiting Hours will be on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 No. Main St., Fair Haven.

William E. Makepeace II
POULTNEY — William E. Makepeace II, 80, died Oct. 29, 2002, at Indian River Nursing Home in Granville, N.Y.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Brockton, Mass., the son of William and Cora (Nevins) Makepeace.
He retired from Telescope Casual Furniture as supervisor of packing and shipping after 40 years of service.
Mr. Makepeace was a veteran of World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Post 39 in Poultney and a certified YMCA diving instructor.
He enjoyed sports.
Survivors include two sons, William Makepeace III of Ithaca, N.Y., and Timothy Makepeace of Poultney; a daughter, Sherry Sands of Altamont, N.Y.; a sister, Adeline Perrotta of Brockton, Mass.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held with the Rev. Marion Moore-Colgan, pastor of United Methodist Church in Poultney, officiating. Burial will take place in Poultney cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Mary A. Price Rites
TINMOUTH — The graveside service for Mary A. Price, 79, who died Oct. 28, 2002, was held Thursday in the Danby-Scottsville cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Mattison, assistant pastor at Christ the King Church, officiating.

Andrew Sage
DEPEW, N.Y. — Andrew Sage, 79, died Oct. 28, 2002, at Roswell Park Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1923, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of Michael and Mary (Macek) Sagi.
He graduated from West Rutland High School, Machinist Training, Marine Diesel Service, and Orthodontic Technical Training, University of Buffalo.
Mr. Sage worked as an orthodontic instructional support technician at the University of Buffalo from 1953 to 1997.
He served in the U.S. Army with the amphibian engineers, and in the South Pacific, Papua, New Guinea, with the Philippine Campaign. He was awarded four battle stars and one bronze star.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and received a recognition pin from SUNY, University of Buffalo for 40 years of service.
Mr. Sage was an avid Buffalo Bill fan, and enjoyed antique collecting.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Celi of Depew; a son, Andrew Sage; a sister, Mary Downey; three brothers, Paul, Stephen and John; and six grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Burial will follow in Transit Rural cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Amigone Funeral Home in Buffalo.
