Elena B. Putnam
SAXTONS RIVER — The graveside service for Elena Brown Putnam, who died Oct. 3, 2002, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in East Dummerston cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
Raymond F. Lanthier
SEMINOLE, Fla. — Raymond Frederick Lanthier, 87, died Oct. 23, 2002, at Wright’s Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Largo.
He was born in Sept. 18, 1915, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of Alfred and Elizabeth Lanthier.
He graduated from West Rutland High School.
Mr. Lanthier received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Newark College of Engineering in 1938.
He worked in the textile machinery industry and held several patents for knitting machine inventions.
He married
Marie B. Zimic of New York.
Mr. Lanthier moved to Florida in 1971 from Greenwood Lake, N.Y., and lived in Dunedin until 1998, when he moved to Seminole to live with his daughter.
Survivors are his daughter, Anne Marie Garcia of Seminole; a grandson; and a sister, Doris I. Lanthier of Seminole.
The memorial service and burial will be in Curlew Hills Garden cemetery in Dunedin today at noon.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to West Rutland High School or to any of the Hospice organizations.
Mary L. Corey
WEST RUTLAND — Mary L. Corey, 81, died Oct. 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born in Rutland on May 4, 1921, the daughter of Norris and Grace (McIntyre) LeGresley.
She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1938 and from DeGoesbriand Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Nurses during World War II, serving in England, France and Belgium.
She married
William M. Corey in 1948.
She worked as a registered nurse at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Brid-get’s Church and the Emblem Club.
In addition to her husband of West Rutland, survivors include three daughters, Sharon Corey of Bristol, Linda Krone of Annapolis, Md., and Maureen Gibeault of Mendon; three sons, Michael Corey of Bristol, Chuck Corey of Rutland Town, and Robert Corey of Essex.; a sister, Mildred Counts of Falls Church, Va.; 13 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s cemetery.
A reception will follow the services at the Howe Center in Rutland at noon.

Robert C. Wisell Sr.
BRANDON — Robert C. Wisell Sr., 84, died Oct. 24, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1918, in Orwell, the son of Noble and Edith (Newton) Wisell.
He graduated in 1937 from Brandon High School.
He married
Alma Birchard on March 30, 1941.
He worked at the Brandon A & P store as a meat cutter. He bought the Red and White Market in For-est Dale in 1955 and operated it as Wisell’s Red and White until his retirement in 1976. During his retirement, he continued puttering and mowing his neighbors’ lawns.
Mr. Wisell was a member of the Brandon Congregational Church, Marble Chapter 89, Order of Eastern Star, and St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge 25, Brandon Senior Citizens and participated in Interage.
He enjoyed picking up litter on the side of the highway, was a volunteer grandparent at Neshobe School, played violin and fiddle for many years at local square dances, and was an avid model train collector.
Survivors include two daughters, Karlene Arseneault of Gilsum, N.H., and Sarah W. McKeighan of Leicester; two sons, Robert C. Wisell Jr. of Broomfield, Colo., and Rollin Wisell of Clarendon; a brother, Randall Wisell of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew; several cousins. He was predeceased by his wife in 1994.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home.
Burial will be at a later date in Lakeview cemetery in Shoreham.

Elizabeth F. Carmichael
Elizabeth F. Carmichael, 92, of Rutland, died Oct. 24, 2002, in Mt. View Center Genesis Eldercare Net-work. She was born in Somerville, MA, daughter of The Rev. Dr. Paul and Gail (Smith) Favour.
Mrs. Carmichael graduated from high school in New Rochelle, NY, in 1928, and from Mt. Holyoke College in 1932.
She married
Har-old A. Carmi-chael in Wellesley, MA on June 18, 1938.
Mrs. Carmichael taught school in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and was the executive secretary in the teacher placement office of Harvard University Graduate School of Education before moving to Vermont in 1940. She then worked on the staff of the Charles E. Tuttle Publishing Company for 13 years, retiring in 1971.
Active in community affairs, Mrs. Carmichael served on the Rutland City School Board from 1952 to 1958. She was a charter member of Airoc Court 42 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America; past president and life member of the Association of University Women, and involved with the alumni organization of Mount Holyoke College.
Mrs. Carmichael was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed playing bridge and golf as well as working in her rose garden.
Survivors include her two daughters, Gail Kent and her husband, Edward of Mendon, and Susan Andrus and her husband, William of Colchester; six grandchildren, Elizabeth “Lisa” Smith of Tolland, CT, Karen K. Kerchis of Farming-ton, CT, Christine K. Kull of Miami, FL, David Andrus of South Burling-ton, William Andrus of Crofton, MD, and Dr. Heather A. Pacheco of Miami, FL; five great-grandchildren, Spencer and Cameron Kull, Joshua and Jessica Kerchis, Paige Andrus; and several nieces and a nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Carmichael in 1978, two brothers, Paul Gordon Favour, Jr., and John W. Favour, and a great-grandson, Bryce H. Andrus.
The memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church.
There will be no calling hours.

WINOOSKI — A funeral Mass for Msgr. Raymond A. Adams was celebrated Wednesday at St. Ste-phen’s Catholic Church in Winoo-ski with the Rev. Philip Branon as principal celebrant. Co-celebrants were the Rev. Wendell Searles, the Rev. Robert Whalen, the Rev. Paul St. James and homilist the Rev. Peter Routhier.

Burial followed in Resurrection Park cemetery in South Burling-ton with the Rev. Whalen and the Rev. Branon offering committal prayers. Bearers were the Rev. La-valley, the Rev. Bourgeois, the Rev. Rivard, the Rev. Deforge, the Rev. Mercure and the Rev. Soutiere.
Arrangements were by the LaVigne Funeral Home.
Clifford R. Wilson
SPENCER, Mass. — Clifford R. “Snuffy” Wilson, 87, died Oct. 25, 2002, at home.
He was born in Pittsford, Vt., the son of Amos and Corabelle (Green) Wilson.
He retired from Novelty Too of Spencer.
Survivors include two sons, War-ren Wilson and Kenneth Wilson, both of Spencer; a daughter, Bar-bara Delisle of Spencer; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pillsbury Fu-neral Home, 163 Main St., Spencer.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
Alice H. M. Varney
FARMINGTON, N.H. — Alice Harriet Michaud Varney, 83, died Oct. 19, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital following a period of failing health.
She was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Lime-stone, Maine, the daughter of Thomas and Grace (Cloutier) Michaud.
Mrs. Varney worked for several years as a clerk in area department stores.
Members of her family include two brothers, Thomas Michaud of Stockbridge, Vt., and Dana Michaud of Gaysville, Vt.; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Parent and Kay Harts-horn, and two brothers, Henry Michaud and Louis Michaud.
A graveside service will be held Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s cemetery in Rochester.
Arrangements are under the direction of the R. M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home in Rochester.
Gracia S. Welsh
NORTH BENNINGTON — Gracia (Stratton) Welsh, 88, a former resident of Shaftsbury, died Oct. 24, 2002, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington after a long illness.
She was born April 4, 1914, in Woodford, the daughter of Ray-mond and Emma (Knapp) Strat-ton, and received her education in Woodford Hollow School.
She married
Raymond “Red” Welsh in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., on Dec. 9, 1933. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Welsh had worked at EZ Mill in Bennington and the Un-dergarment Company in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. She retired from Thompson Manufacturing in Bennington. Following retirement, she hooked rugs for McAdoo Rugs in North Bennington as a hobby.
She enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Becker and Mary Matti-son, both of North Bennington, and Dorothy Elwell of Shaftsbury; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Coon of Troy, N.Y., and Georgieanna Hunt of Sandgate; nieces, neph-ews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly Becker; three brothers, Robert Stratton, Elmer Stratton and Ray Stratton; four sisters, Dora Behah, Nellie Gates, Eliz-abeth McConnell and Nancy Jones.
The funeral will be held Tues-day, Oct. 29, at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home with a prayer and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 a.m. where the funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Edward Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor.
Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The wake service will be offered at 6 p.m.
