Douglas L. Carpenter

GUILFORD - Douglas K. Carpenter, 82, died Oct. 3, 2002, at his home.

He was born May 19, 1920, in Readsboro, the son of Leo and Gertie (Bishop) Carpenter.

He graduated from Whitingham High School in 1938.

He married Marie LaRock on Dec. 25, 1938, in Stamford.

Mr. Carpenter owned and operated the Broad Brook Garage and later worked at Turner's Flying A Service Station, specializing in automatic transmissions. He had previously worked as superintendent of maintenance for the Shortline Railroad of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the infantry with the army of occupation in Japan.

He was a member of American Legion Post 5 of Brattleboro and had volunteered with the Guilford Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

He enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Smith of Newfane and Linda Strange of Guilford; a son, William Carpenter of Guilford; a sister, Barbara Collins of Greenfield, Mass.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a cousin.

The memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the American Legion home on Linden Street. Military honors will be provided. A private burial will take place at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Guilford Volunteer Fire Department, Building Fund, 115 Sherwood Circle, Brattleboro, 05301.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home.

Marie Corey rites

WEST RUTLAND—Funeral services for Marie (Poulin) Corey, 76, of Avondale, Ga, who died Tuesday in Altanta, Ga., were held Saturday in St. Bridgets Church in West Rutland.

The Rev. Robert Whalen, pastor, officiated.

Burial was in St. Bridgets cemetery. Rev. Whalen read prayers.

Readers were Christopher Hickey and Chuck Corey.

Minister of the Altar was John Clark.

Words of Remembrance were given by Patricia Groves.

Honorary Bearers were Scott and Mark Lewandowski.

Bearers were Patrick Poulin, Brian Lewandowski, Jonathan Lewandowski, Glen Bergman, Chris Hickey and Mike Andrews.

Prayer services were held Saturday morning at the Clifford Funeral Home by Rev. Whalen.

Thomas W. “Scratch” Harrison

MENDON—Funeral services for Thomas W. “Scratch” Harrison, 46, who died Oct. 3, 2002 at his home will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Proctor.

Burial will follow in St. Dominic’s cemetery.

A reception will follow at the Rutland Moose Lodge on Center St., in Rutland.

Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Camp-Ta-Kum-Ta, P.O. Box 576, Waterbury, VT 05676, or to a favorite charity of one’s choice.

Ada Miller

RANDOLPH—Ada Miller, 71, of Randolph, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Phyllis Kinney Ward Robinson rites

RUTLAND—The memorial service for Phyllis Kinney Ward Robinson, 83, of Rutland, who died Sept. 28, 2002, was held Saturday in the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. David J. Dean, minister emeritus, officiated.

Words of Remembrance were offered by family members.

Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Rev. Dean offered committal prayers.

A grandson, Kevin, played the guitar and sang two selections.

Muriel Tabor

RANDOLPH CENTER—Muriel Tabor, 97, of Randolph Center, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Christopher L. Graham

BELMONT — Christopher L. Graham, 19, died Oct. 4, 2002, in Mount Holly as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born in Rutland Dec. 14, 1982, the son of Paul and Helen (Loso) Graham Sr.

He was a 2001 graduate of Mill River Union High School.

He was employed by New England Fencing Co. of Mount Holly.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer (Bussino) Graham of Belmont; a daughter, Heather Lee Ann Graham of Belmont; his father of Rutland; his mother of Mount Holly; a brother, Paul Graham Jr. of Rutland; two sisters, Tiffany Graham and Sara Graham, both of Mount Holly; his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Rose Loso of Rutland; his paternal grandparents, Bernie Graham Sr. of Rutland and Betty Curavoo of Connecticut; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Rutland. The Rev. Bruce A. Bishop, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery in East Wallingford.

Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heather Lee Ann Graham Memorial Fund, in care of Clifford Funeral Home, 2 Washington St., Rutland, 05701.

Elsie J. Eklund

Elsie J. Eklund, 77, of Rutland, died Oct. 3, 2002, at her home.

She was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Salisbury, the daughter of Norman and Jessica (Crane) Foote. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1943.

She worked at the Economy Department Store for many years.

Mrs. Eklund married Frank O. Eklund on Oct. 10, 1956. He died Feb. 23, 1995.

She was an avid flower gardener.

Survivors include her daughter, Andrea Lawrence of Cropseyville, N.Y.; a son, Lt. Col. Eric Eklund of Clovis, N.M.; two sisters, Sylvia Senif and Gladys Taylor, both of Rutland; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Norman Foote.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Tossing Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward A. Hackett Jr., pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph.

Friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, 05602.

The Tossing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte A. Cartier

BURLINGTON — Charlotte A Cartier, 92, of Burlington died Oct. 4, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

She was born n Rutland June 13, 1910, the daughter of Charles J. and Anna (Barrett) Burke. She was a 1928 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy.

She married Richard Cartier in 1932. He died in 1990.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Church.

Survivors include a son, Richard J. Cartier Jr. of Rutland; two daughters, Charlene Welsh and Margaret Allard, both of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in New Mount Calvary cemetery.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, 12 Hurricane Lane, Williston, 05495 or to the American Diabetes Association, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, 05446.

The Ready Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Francis Doyle

BRANDON — Francis “Frank” Doyle, 74, died Oct. 6, 2002, at his home in Brandon.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

William R. Rowe Rites

BRANDON — The funeral service for William Richard Rowe, 92, who died Oct. 3, 2002, was held Saturday at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor, officiated. Private burial followed in Pine Hill cemetery.

Organist was Jean Childers, and soloist was Bonnie Miller Johnson.

A Masonic service was conducted.

Bearers, all members of St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge 25, included John Grivetti, Janner Morgan, John Malewicki, David Martin, Dean Lawrence and Frank Farnsworth.

The Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Isabelle H. Anderson Rites

The memorial service for Isabelle Holbrook Anderson, 89, who died Aug. 20, 2002, was held Sunday in Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Robert B. curry, pastor, officiated.

Organist was Rip Jackson.

Family and friends offered words of remembrance.

The Tossing Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
