Mary E. Thomas Rites
ARLINGTON — The funeral service for Mary E. Thomas, who died Sept. 11, 2002, was held Saturday at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home. The Rev. Joan Newton O’Gorman, pastor of the Federated Church of East Arlington, officiated.
Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Arlington with the Rev. O’Gorman offering the committal service.
Bearers were grandsons Timothy Clayton, Steve Clayton and Jerold Clayton Jr. and Jon Zimmer.
American Legion Post 69 Auxiliary conducted its memorial service Friday.
Jeanne M. Joslin
BENNINGTON — Jeanne Marie Joslin, 27, died Sept. 13, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born in Bennington March 22, 1975, the daughter of Robert and Barbara (Martell) Joslin. She grew up in Bennington and graduated from Mount Anthony Union High school in 1993.
She had worked in the bakery department at Hannaford Supermarket and at Catamount Glass.
She enjoyed drawing, painting, pottery and gardening.
Survivors include her parents of Bennington; her paternal grandparents, Fay and Grace Joslin of Bennington; a son, Joshua Joslin of Bennington; two sisters, Victoria Joslin of Pownal and Tina Joslin of Bennington; and two aunts.
The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. A prayer service will precede the funeral at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dr. William A. Leach
LILLINGTON, N.C. — Dr. William A. Leach, 75, died Sept. 14, 2002, at Good Hope Hospital.
He was a native of Warwick, R.I.
He served during World War II as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was a dentist in Springfield, Vt., for 35 years.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, N.C., with Dr. David Whiteman officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Leach; two daughters, Catherine L. MacCracken of Knoxville, Tenn., and Constance Bisson of Cornwall; a brother, John A. Leach Jr. of Brooklyn, Conn.; and two grandchildren.

Lucille Williams
SALISBURY — Lucille (Bishop) Williams, 80, died Sept. 15, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Eleanor LeFevre Szymanski
BURLINGTON — Eleanor LeFevre Szymanski of Burlington died on Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the Starr Farm Nursing Center after a long illness.
She was born on March 1, 1919, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of the late Arthur and Melinda (Favreau) LeFevre. Mrs. Szymanski graduated from Waterbury High School. She moved to Schenectady, N.Y., where she worked at General Electric Co.
In March of 1946 she was married
in Schenectady to Ludwik F. Szymanski. They moved to Burlington, Vt., in 1957. She was employed by the Chittenden Bank and Vermont Gas Systems.
Eleanor looked forward to her many hours of traveling across the country and winters in Arizona. The highlights of her life were her grandchildren and her two great-grandsons.
Surviving Eleanor are her husband of 56 years, Ludwik of Burlington; a daughter, Constance Walsh, and her husband, Lawrence, of Burlington, Vt.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown and her husband, Geoffrey, and their sons, Patrick Brett Brown and Kyle Matthew Brown, of Wheeling, W.V.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Howard, and a grandson, Brett McAuliffe Walsh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park cemetery in South Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Eleanor may be made to the Brett M. Walsh Scholarship Fund, c/o Jean Krock, Mater Christi School, 100 Mansfield Ave., Burlington, VT 05401.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington, Vt.
Timothy A. Ryan
Timothy A. Ryan, 49, of Rutland, died Oct. 2, 2002, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
He was the husband of Susan (Yarsinske) Ryan of Rutland.
The funeral service is pending at Christ the King Church in Rutland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Robert O. Eddy
Robert O. Eddy, 90, of Rutland, died Oct. 1, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home.
He was born July 16, 1912, in Manchester, the son of Freeman and Charlotte (Callahan) Eddy.
He graduated from Vermont Academy in Saxtons River and attended Michigan State College.
He worked at General Electric Co. in Rutland for many years, and owned and operated Eddy Vending Co. in Rutland for several years.
Mr. Eddy was a member of Christ the King Church, American Legion Post 31 and Rutland County Club.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Lawson) Eddy; three sons, Thomas Eddy of Clarksville, Md., Robert Eddy Jr. of Meredith, N.H., and William Eddy of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Beatrice Wathney, Rita Miller and Charlotte Poor.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Marie Corey
WEST RUTLAND — Marie Corey, 76, of Avondale Estates, Ga., died Oct. 1, 2002, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., of lung disease.
She was born March 12, 1926, in Burlington, the daughter of Francis and Antoinette (Cushing) Poulin.
She was a longtime resident of Sandersville, Ga., and a member and volunteer at St. William’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ellen Lewandowski of Winchendon, Mass., Margaret Bergman of Lilburn, Ga., Eileen Hickey of Avondale Estates, Ga., and Ann Andrews of Simpsonville, S.C.; and three brothers, Francis Poulin of Shelburne, Ronald Poulin of Burlington and Raymond Poulin of Jacksonville, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Corey.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. William’s Catholic Church in Sandersville or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Robert J. Chamberlain Sr.
HAMPTON, N.H. — Robert J. Chamberlain Sr., 76, died Aug. 24, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Emile and Catherine (Bruten) Chamberlain.
He attended schools in Proctor and graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland, Vt., in 1943, and the University of Rhode Island in 1952 with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Chamberlain was a veteran of World War II, serving as an aviator with the U.S. Navy. He retired as commander of Jet Attack Squadron 911 in South Weymouth, Mass., with 22 years of service, which included time served with the Navy Reserves.
He worked for GTE Sylvania in Exeter, retiring as plant manager in 1987 with 35 years of service.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Hampton.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Harries) Chamberlain; a son, Dr. Robert Chamberlain Jr., U.S. Navy, Great Lakes, Ill.; a daughter, Susan Hebert of Derry; a brother, Richard Chamberlain of Sunset Beach, N.C.; two sisters, Jean Jones of Whispering Pines, N.C., and Mary Kay Barron of Rutland, Vt.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. Burial followed in the High Street cemetery in Hampton.

Isabelle H. Anderson
The memorial service for Isabelle H. Anderson, 89, who died Aug. 10, 2002, will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert B. Curry, pastor, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
John Horwedel Rites
The funeral service for John Horwedel, 77, of Rutland, who died Sept. 26, 2002, was held Wednesday at the Clifford Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Rainville, assistant pastor of Roadside Chapel Assembly of God, officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery in Fair Haven.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
George W. Ainsworth
SHARON — George W. Ainsworth, 79, died Oct. 2, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 30, 1922, in South Royalton, the son of George and Ruth (Collins) Ainsworth.
He graduated from South Royalton High School in 1940, and later attended the University of Wisconsin.
He married
Thelma Milnes on Aug. 30, 1944, in Groveland, Mass. She died in 1971. On Oct. 20, 1972, he married
Joyce Joslyn in South Royalton.
Mr. Ainsworth worked on the family’s Westlands Dairy Farm.
He was a member of the United Church of South Royalton, a director of the Green Mountain Draft Horse Association, past member of the South Royalton Town Band and a member of many farming organizations.
He enjoyed raising draft horses, vegetable gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of Sharon; two sons, Charles Ainsworth of Quechee and David Ainsworth of South Royalton; two daughters, Susan Erickson of Sharon and Cynthia Dalrymple of South Royalton; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Howe and Mary Sanborn.
The memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the United Church of South Royalton with the Rev. James Proctor and the Rev. Steve Winkler officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
