Richard F. Gaudette
THETFORD CENTER — Richard F. Gaudette, 55, died Sept. 3, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born April 7, 1947, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Bernard and Geraldine (Smith) Gaudette.
He graduated from Hartford High School in 1967, and Bryant and Stratton College in Boston.
Mr. Gaudette was employed by the Cross Company in White River Junction as warehouse manager for 18 years. In 1986 he and his brother formed R.J. Corporation and operated Baker’s Store in Post Mills, B&B Cash Market in West Fairlee, and the Village Store in Thetford Center.
He served in the Army National Guard.
He was a member of the Hartford Lodge 1541 BPO Elks and the Bradford Country Club.
He enjoyed golf, boating, cooking and jelly-making.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Johnson-Gaudette of Thetford Center; his mother of Bradford; three sons, Michael of Hartford, Raymond of Grantham, N.H., and Brian of Denver, Colo.; a stepson, Torrey Fifield of Thetford Center; three grandchildren; a brother, John of Post Mills; a sister, Cherie Kingsbury of Bradford; several nephews, great-nephews and a great-niece.
He was predeceased by his father.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Junction. Burial will follow in Post Mills cemetery in Post Mills.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Malcolm Rush
BENNINGTON — Malcolm “Mac” Rush, 60, died Sept. 4, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 28, 1942, in Port Chester, N.Y., the son of Ambassador Kenneth Rush Sr. and Jane (Smith) Rush.
He graduated from prep school in Connecticut and Colorado Alpine College in Steamboat Springs, Colo., as valedictorian of his class.
He married
Mary Lee Farrens on July 3, 1965, in Denver, Colo.
Mr. Rush was employed at the Bennington Banner for nearly 30 years, and later at Pennysaver for two years, retiring in 2000.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and Moose Lodge 1223 in Bennington.
Mr. Rush was an avid cyclist and car enthusiast. He also enjoyed writing and photography.
Survivors include his wife of Bennington; three sons, Scott Rush, Malcolm Rush Jr. and Jason Rush, all of Bennington; a daughter, Lisa Hill of Pocatello, Idaho; five grandchildren; a sister, Cynthia Monahan of New Canaan, Conn.; and two brothers, Kenneth Rush Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John Rush of Fairfax, Va.
He was predeceased by two brothers, David Rush and George Rush.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bennington. A private burial will take place in Dellwood cemetery in Manchester.

Pauline M. Mann
BRATTLEBORO — Pauline McLean Shaw Mann, 98, died Sept. 2, 2002, at her home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1904, in Bellows Falls, the daughter of Harry and Lena (McLean) Shaw.
She graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1923.
She married
John Mann Sr. on June 5, 1929, in Brattleboro.
Mrs. Mann was employed as a teller/clerk at the Brattleboro Trust Co. until her marriage. After the death of her husband’s father, she and her husband were left with his store, the J.E. Mann Co., “The Ladies Store,” in Brattleboro which they operated for many years.
She was a member of the Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro, the Brattleboro Women’s Club, the Brattleboro Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, Kimball Mann of Spofford, N.H., and Dr. John Mann Jr. of Brattleboro and Vernon; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband and by three brothers, Lawrence, Chester and Francis.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro with the Rev. Fred Edmonds, pastor of Centre Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Morningside cemetery.
A reception will be held at the home of Dr. John and Bean Mann, Laurel Ledges in Vernon following the committal service.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leona Roberts
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — Leona Roberts, 77, died Sept. 2, 2002, at Stichman Towers.
She was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Danby, the daughter of Newton and Charity (Baker) Wetherby.
She had been employed by Native Textile in Glens Falls.
Mrs. Roberts was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Roberts of Riverton, Utah; two daughters, Donna Mayne of Queensbury and Elizabeth Brown of Westfield, Mass.; two brothers, Ralph Wetherby of Fair Haven, Vt., and Claude Wetherby of Rutland, Vt.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville. Burial will follow in Mettowee Valley cemetery in Granville.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. a the funeral home.

Thelma H. LaRocque Rites
BRIDPORT — The memorial service for Thelma H. LaRocque, who died Sept. 1, 2002, was held Wednesday at the Congregational Church in Bridport with the Rev. Timothy Franklin, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Bridport Central cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Richard M. Allen
DANBY — Richard M. “Dick” Allen, 71, a lifelong resident of Danby and Mount Tabor, died Sept. 13, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Danby Oct. 29, 1930, the son of Howard and Josie (Rowe) Allen. He attended Danby schools.
In 1949 he married
Florence Stevens at Danby Four Corners.
Allen was a caretaker for many private homes, giving particular attention to landscaping and gardens. He worked for many years for R.H. Bibens sheet metal shop in Manchester.
He had most recently lived in East Dorset.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his son, Bruce Allen of Florence; two daughters, Patricia Campbell of West Rutland and Marsha Kent of Mount Tabor; a brother, Warren Allen of Wallingford; a sister, Jane Colvin of Benson; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife in 1999; a brother, Ralph Allen; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Justin Baker officiating. Cremation will take place at Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington, and his remains will be buried in Danby cemetery.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester.

Patricia E. Parent
MENDON — Patricia Ellen Parent, 66, died Sept 14, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a five-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born July 17, 1936, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Hughes) Stevens.
She married
Philip Parent on May 16, 1953.
Mrs. Parent and her husband managed the Parent Apartments for many years.
She was a master gardener, and enjoyed quilting, landscape painting and collecting teddy bears.
Survivors include her husband of Mendon; two daughters, Kim Socia of Wallingford and Jennifer Parent of Rutland; a son, Jonny Parent of Rutland; a sister, Gladys Chapman of Rutland; two brothers, Victor Dziuba and Albert Dziuba of Rutland; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Parent; a daughter, Faith Parent; and a brother, Albert Stevens.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Alvester Scott
HUBBARDTON — Lt. Col. Alvester Scott, 85, died Sept. 14, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a long illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Ducharme Funeral Home of Castleton.
Clifford D. Peck
EAST WALLINGFORD —Clifford D. Peck, 86, of East Wallingford died Sept. 15, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 14, 1915, on Sugar Hill in East Wallingford, the son of Charles and Mary (Willard) Peck.
Mr. Peck had been a farmer and logger throughout his life.
He was a member of the East Wallingford Grange and attended the East Wallingford Baptist Church.
Survivors include his longtime friend and companion, Alice Tyrrell, with whom he made his home, and her grandson, Michael LaRock, whom he helped raise; two brothers, Harrison Peck and Louis Peck of East Wallingford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest N. Peck and Joseph Peck.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the East Wallingford cemetery.
