Marie E. Brislin
Marie E. Brislin, 77, of Rutland died Aug. 16, 2002, in Rutland.
She was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Rutland Town, the daughter of Leon and Kate (Jarvis) Lewis.
She was employed by Eden Park Nursing Home, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Christ the King Church.
Survivors include three sons, John Brislin III of Milton, James Brislin of Granville, N.Y., and Gerald Brislin of Castleton; a daughter, Theresa Toner of Castleton; a brother, Howard Lewis of Castleton; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Brislin Jr. in 1996; and two grandsons.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Church. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, 05702.

Ann Zawistoski Rites
WEST RUTLAND — The funeral Mass for Ann (Turner) Zawistoski, 92, of the Meadows and a former resident of West Rutland, was celebrated Friday at St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland with the Rev. Robert Whalen, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in Vermont Veterans cemetery in Randolph with the Rev. Lance Harlow, pastor of St. Anthony’s Church in Bethel, officiating.
Organist was Angela Lundrigan and vocalist was Theresa Bartlett.
Bearers were Bourque Sampson, John Zawistoski, Michael Hart and Thomas Hart.
Honorary bearers were members of American Legion Auxiliary 87, Catholic Daughters of America and Our Lady of the Snows Sodality.
Prayer services were offered Thursday evening at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Whalen, American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home.
Esther M. Mathews Rites
BOMOSEEN — A memorial service for Esther M. Mathews, 83, who died June 30, 2002, was held Friday at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad Clark, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church of Arlington, officiating.
Barbara Travis provided the music.

Susan B. Wood
SPRINGFIELD — Susan B. Wood, 70, died of cancer Aug. 15, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Westboro, Mass., the daughter of George and Estella (Congdon) Forsey.
She graduated from Westboro (Mass.) High School in 1949 and later attended the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City.
She married
Ralph Wood on Sept. 5, 1952, in Westboro, Mass.
Mrs. Wood had taught ballroom dancing in New York City, and was later employed in the forestry department at the University of Maine in Oreno, Maine for four years.
She also was employed at the Bryant Grinder Corp. for a year, and later served as the administrative assistant to the Springfield High School principals for 34 years. After her retirement, she worked part-time for the Springfield Reporter for 10 years.
She served as a trustee at the Crown Point County Club for 12 years and as secretary-clerk for six years.
She was an avid golfer and past Crown Point Club champion. She also enjoyed rug braiding, knitting, sewing and swimming.
Survivors include her husband of Springfield; a sister, Jane Dunphy of Westboro, Mass.; a brother, Richard Forsey of Clinton, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Nelson, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Crown Point Country Club, P.O. Box 413, Springfield, 05156.

Paul Stack
BELLOWS FALLS — Paul Stack, 47, died Aug. 15, 2002.
He was born March 30, 1955, the son of Maurice Jr. and Patricia (Herrick) Stack.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1973. Mr. Stack married
Sue Shattuck on June 30, 1973, in Bellows Falls.
He was a self-employed electrical contractor at local ski areas. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed camping, four-wheeling and working around the yard.
Survivors include his wife; his father of North Walpole, N.H.; three daughters, Misty Haskell and Myriah Stack of Bellows Falls and Katie Jarvis of Peru, Vt.; two brothers, Michael Stack of Bellows Falls and Maurice Stack III of Brattleboro; a sister, Lynda Austin of Keene, N.H.; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Oak Hill cemetery in Bellows Falls.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.

Annalisa Sparta Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Annalisa Sparta, 78, who died Aug. 14, 2002, was held Friday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Uzupan officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery.
Bearers were Andrew Sparta, John Sparta, Ingvar Olson, Trevor Olson and Janet Gordon.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
James Sachs
ATHERTON, Calif. — James Sachs, 47, died of cancer Aug. 15 at his home.
He was born in Hanover, N.H., the son of Ernest Jr. and Jeanne (O’Sullivan) Sachs.
He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1977, and received a master’s degree from Stanford University in 1979.
He married
Susan Helton in 1980.
Mr. Sachs was an engineer and businessman, and was best known as the co-designer and patent holder of the Macintosh Mouse. He also founded Elfin Technologies, which produced interactive personal robots to augment the home computing experience, and created the first visual programming language.
He served as director of research and development and engineering at Worlds of Wonder, co-founded IDEO, the world’s largest product development company, and founded SoftBook Press, the first electronic reading system, with Tom Pomeroy. Mr. Sachs served on the National Advisory Council of Reading is Fundamental.
He enjoyed hiking, photography, skiing and the history of those activities.
Survivors include his wife and three children, Jessica, Christopher and Elizabeth, all of Atherton; his mother of Hanover, N.H.; and three brothers, Rusty Sachs of Norwich, Vt., Christopher Sachs of Austin, Texas and Robert Sachs of Alexandria, Va.; and two sisters, Ann Sachs of New York City and Patricia Sachs of Half Moon Bay.
Richard Baker
DANBY — Richard Baker, 76, died Aug. 26, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 29, 1926, in Danby Four Corners, the son of David and Jane (Teer) Baker Sr.
He had been employed as a milk truck driver for Seward Dairy for 49 years. Most recently, he had been a carrier for the Rutland Herald.
Mr. Baker enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie Etta Baker of Danby, whom he married
on Feb. 26, 1949; two daughters, Ann Goodell of Danby and Jennifer Baker of Alaska; two sons, Edward Baker of Clarendon and Joel Baker of Danby; six sisters, Doris Benson of Glens Falls, N.Y., Irene Traverse of Castleton, Betty Forrest of Tinmouth, Janice Bendig of Center Rutland, Linda Baker of Wallingford and Carol Hart of Mount Tabor; five brothers, Robert Baker of Dorset, Vernon Baker of Hinesburg, Norvin Baker of Middletown, David Baker Jr. of Wells and Percy Baker of Wallingford; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Bouley.
Funeral services are pending.

Jeffrey P. Russell
CASTLETON — The funeral Mass for Jeffrey Philip Russell, 41, who died Aug. 24, 2002, will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Church in Proctor with the Rev., William Morgan officiating.

POULTNEY — The graveside service for Thomas Walter Fredette, 59, who died Aug. 20, 2002, was held Tuesday in Forest Dale cemetery with the Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Congregational Church in Brandon, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Pauline Helen Murray
ASCUTNEY — Pauline Helen Murray, age 75, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2002, at her home with her daughter and caregiver at her side following a long illness.
Pauline was born in Clarendon, Vermont, on February 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Pitts Fernette. She was raised in Cornwall, Vermont, by her husband’s parents, the late Edward and Julia Murray. Pauline is a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School, class of 1945, Troy, New York, and of Saint Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing, Albany, New York. Pauline was married
on June 23, 1947, to the late Victor E. Murray in Saint Catherine’s Church, Shelburne. Throughout most of her work life she was a child care provider working from her home. In her later years she worked with the Visiting Nurses providing in-home elder care services. Pauline will forever be remembered for her dedication to family and the special gift of sewing and quilt making that she shared with each of her children and grandchildren by making individual and distinctive quilts for each one of them. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Williston, Vermont.
She is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife Barbara, and Anthony and his wife Charlene Murray, all of Williston, Vermont. Three daughters, Elaina and her husband David O’Neill of Barre, Vermont, Sharon and her husband Christopher O’Neill of Ascutney, Vermont, and Rebecca and her husband Benjamin Sager of Fredricksburg, Virginia. Two sisters, Adaline Waite and Katherine Peirce, both of Brandon, Vermont; and 13 grandchildren. She is predeceased by one daughter, Kathlene Ann Murray, who died February 12, 2001; and one grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church, Williston, Vermont. Burial will be in East cemetery, Williston following Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pauline’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Alliance and Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire, 325 Mt. Support Road, Lebanon, New Hampshire, 03766, or the Vermont Respite House, in care of the Visiting Nurses Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vermont, 05446.
The family will receive friends for visiting hours on Thursday, August 29, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, Vermont.
Shirley Fougere
BELLOWS FALLS — Shirley Fougere, 65, died Aug. 25, 2002, at Grace Cottage Hospital.
She was born Jan. 2, 1937, the daughter of Horace and Vera (Jones) Hammond.
She attended schools in Vermont and Maine.
She was employed by Lou’s Taxi in Brattleboro, Bridgeport Meats in Hindsdale, N.H., and as a cook for various restaurants for many years.
She often took in people and animals who needed help.
Survivors include five sons, Robert Barrett, Paul Fougere and Shawn Barrett, all of Kingfisher, Okla., Raymond Barrett of Rogers, Ark., and David Fougere of Bellows Falls; three daughters, Sandy Bridges of Farmington, N.H., Diana Spaulding and Karen Thomas, both of Bellows Falls; a sister, Barbara Bernal of Claremont, N.H.; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
