LUDLOW — There will be a celebration of life open house for Theresa O’Brien VanGuilder, 48, who died April 9, 2002, on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Carle home on 31 Brooks Road, Ludlow.

Geraldine M. Hulett Rites
SHAFTSBURY — The memorial Mass for Benjamin W. Hulett and Geraldine M. Hulett was celebrated Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor, officiating.
Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray.
American Legion Post 13 in Bennington provided military honors for Mr. Hulett. Ralph Brown presented the flag to Mr. Hulett’s daughter, Rebecca Gall. Harwood Strobeck sounded taps.
A remembrance gathering was held at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall following the Mass.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
Donald E. Greene Rites
SHAFTSBURY — The funeral service for Donald Edmund Greene, who died June 8, 2002, was held Tuesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bennington with the Rev. Arnet Mathers, pastor of the Bennington and Rutland churches, and the Rev. Mark Harris, pastor of the Keene, N.H., Washington and West Townshend churches, officiating. Burial followed in Center Shaftsbury cemetery.
Organist was Janet Hurd and pianist was Kate Harris. Soloists were Bonnie Greene and Tony Greene, and Kelly and Nathan Smead and Dale Ford.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 and American Legion Post 13 in Bennington provided military honors. Thomas Stone and Ralph Brown presented the flag to Mr. Greene’s wife, Elizabeth. Harwood Strobeck and Maurice Rancourt sounded taps.
Bearers were Steve Smead, Arthur Charron, Peter Belanger, Douglas Caron, Walter Babcock and James Howe Jr. Honorary bearers were Edward King, Roy Mattison, William Vien, Lawrence Harrington, Carl Hulbert and Gaylord Harrington.
A reception was held in Fellowship Hall at the Seventh Day Adventist Church following the service.

Lester H. Davis Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Lester H. Davis, who died Dec. 31, 2001, was celebrated Wednesday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington with the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery.
Organist was Randall Krum and soloist was Monica Murray.
American Legion Post 13 in Bennington provided military honors. Ralph Brown presented the flag to Mr. Davis’ wife, Georgia Davis. Maurice Rancourt sounded taps.

Marolyn B. Bingham Rites
CORNWALL — The funeral Mass for Marolyn B. Bingham, 71, who died June 9, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury with the Rev. Peter O’Leary officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery in Middlebury.
Organist was Kevin Parizo.
Pallbearers were Walter Sears, Joel Fifield, Maurice LaFramboise, Wright Stown, John McKinley and P.J. Carrara.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Anne M. Slattery
Anne M. Slattery, 98, of Rutland, died July 16, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Michael and Helen (Pickett) Dinan.
She was a self-employed real estate broker prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Long Island Catholic Charities Association.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Terri Emilo of Killington, Mary Quesnal of Rutland Town, Eric Hagen of Essex and Donald Hagen Jr. of Rutland; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sven Hagen; a son, Donald Hagen Sr.; a grandson; and several brothers and sisters.
The graveside service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Germain A. Rochon
FOREST DALE — Germain A. Rochon, 59, died July 15, 2002, of cancer.
He was born Dec. 12, 1942, the son Louis and Cecile (Quesnel) Rochon.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 38 years, Marlene (English) Rochon.
The memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Living Water Assembly of God Church in Forest Dale.

Mabel V. Latourneau
Mabel V. Latourneau, 82, died July 13, 2002.
She was born May 4, 1920, in Isle LaMotte, Vt., to Joseph Latourneau and Edith (Pearo) Latourneau Ero.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Fowler and her husband Gerald W. Fowler Sr. of Pittsford, Vt.; her grandchildren, Gerald W. Fowler Jr. of Pittsford, Vt., and Rebecca A. Fowler of Rutland, Vt.; and her great-granddaughter, Samantha C. Barlow of Rutland, Vt. She is also survived by a brother, Paul Ero of Ellenburg, N.Y.; two sisters, Mildred Pearo of Fair Haven, Vt., and Jessica Boutah of Alburg, Vt.; and many close nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by six brothers, George Latourneau Sr., Napoleon (Pat) Latourneau, Fredrick Ero, Seth Ero, James Ero and David Ero; and two sisters, Mary Margaret Lawrence and Evangeline Burns.
She spent many years in Connecticut before returning to her home state of Vermont in 1964. She worked for GE in Rutland until her retirement in 1981.
She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with children, which included teaching kindergarten level Catechism at St. Alphonsus Parish in Pittsford. She was also a talented quilt maker and delighted in creating many knitted and crocheted items for her family and friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 19, at noon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Isle LaMotte, followed by burial in St. Joseph’s cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Charles Tarris
BOMOSEEN — Charles Tarris, 59, a former resident of Brandon, died July 16, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Wilcox, N.H.
Survivors include his guardian, Duncan Schroeder of Ipswich, Mass.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven with the Rev. Richard Tinney, pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, officiating. A private burial will follow in Pine Hill cemetery in Brandon.
There will be no calling hours.

Donald J. Hagen Sr.
The graveside service for Donald J. Hagen Sr., 71, a former resident of Rutland and Middlebury, who died April 17, 2002, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Rutland with the Rev. Reid Mayo, pastor of Christ the King Church, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.
Lea Crowley Rites
The funeral Mass for Lea (Piccini) Crowley, 86, a former resident of Rutland and longtime resident of Burlington, who died July 12, 2002, was celebrated Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, officiating. Concelebrating was the Rev. John McSweeney. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Rutland.
Organist was John Riddle and vocalist was Helen Davidson.
Bearers were Noah Crowley, David Crowley, John Lawrence, Edward Walsh, Ted Frankiewicz and George Schalk.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Wilfred R. Fales Rites
POULTNEY — The funeral service for Wilfred R. Fales was held Monday at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Poultney, officiating. Burial followed in Poultney cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.
Amanda W. Johnson
SPRINGFIELD — Amanda W. (Anderson) Johnson, 93, died July 11, 2002, in North Andover, Mass.
She was born April 25, 1909, in Quincy, Mass.
She graduated from the Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing in 1931.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a registered nurse for 45 years, for Springfield Hospital, Ellsworth Clinic and the Visiting Nurses of Springfield.
She was active with the Springfield Senior Citizens, and was recognized as Senior of the Year in 1980. She also was a member of the Alturian Club, the Garden Club and the 77 Club.
She enjoyed volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Thomas and Nancy Wheatley; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Johnson; and a son, John Johnson.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, UCC in Springfield with the Rev. Harold Harrison officiating.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the First Congregational Church, 77 Main St., Springfield, 05156, or the Springfield Senior Citizens Club.
Esther C. Nelson
RANDOLPH CENTER — Esther Coonley Nelson, 82, died July 16, 2002, at Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford.
She was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Ida (Smalley) Coonley.
She graduated from Troy (N.Y.) High School in 1937 and Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany, N.Y., in 1938.
She married
William Nelson on May 23, 1942. They made their home in Troy, N.Y., before moving to Randolph. Mr. Nelson died in 1982.
Mrs. Nelson worked as a secretary for many years in the Troy, area which included Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
She was a member of the Randolph Center Community Church.
She enjoyed playing cards, reading, sewing and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Nelson of Poland Springs, Maine; a daughter, Nadine Jennings of Canton, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Coonley.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Randolph Center Congregational Church with the Rev. Robin Junker officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Center cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
