Agnes M. Coons
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Agnes Mary Coons, 97, died June 3, 2002, at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown.
She was born April 9, 1905, in North Adams, the daughter of Eugene and Rosalie (Denno) Foy.
She attended schools in North Adams.
She married
Earl Coons on Oct. 17, 1925, in North Adams. He died in 1974.
Mrs. Coons had worked in the Hoosac Cotton Mill in North Adams.
She was a member of White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown.
She enjoyed quilting and other crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Hayden of Stafford Springs, Conn.; two sons, Robert Coons of Proctor, Vt., and Ernest Coons of Morrisonville, N.Y.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Dean of Williamstown and Mrs. William Mahoney of Lodi, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Bienick; and a brother, Albert Foy.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Eastlawn cemetery in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery in North Adams.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to White Oaks Congregational Church, through the office of the George M. Hopkins Funeral Home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, 01267.

Alice H. Collins Rites
WALLINGFORD — The funeral service for Alice H. Collins, 91, who died May 31, 2002, was held Monday at the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Caskie Jr., pastor of the Wallingford Congregational Church, officiating. Burial followed in Green Hill cemetery.
Bearers were Tim Blanchard, Kevin Brown, James Collins, Mike Brown, Brian Davenport and Richard LaFrancis.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eden Park Nursing Home Activities Fund, 99 Allen St., Rutland, 05701.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home.
Philip J. Nothnagle Businessman, board member
HARTLAND — Philip J. Nothnagle, 52, died June 1, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1949, in New Haven, Conn., the son of Lester and C. Shirley Nothnagle.
He graduated from Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, Conn., in 1967, received a bachelor’s degree with high honors from Marlboro College and a doctorate from Dartmouth College.
Mr. Nothnagle married
Suzanne O’Reilly on Oct. 30, 1971, in Marlboro.
He and his wife owned and operated Pootatuck Corp. in Windsor. Mr. Nothnagle was an ecological consultant specializing in endangered species, particularly the tiger beetle, and wrote a number of publications in his field.
He was a member of the Hartland School Board, the Hartland Planning Commission and the Joint River Commission.
Mr. Nothnagle was a musician and a frequent participant in the Hartland Variety Show. He enjoyed skiing and windsurfing.
Survivors include his wife, and two children, Darcy Nothnagle and Andrew Nothnagle, both of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister, Laurie Sullivan of Holyoke, Mass.
He was predeceased by his parents.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Woodstock.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Historic Windsor Inc., Windsor, 05089, Mount Ascutney Hospital, Windsor, 05089, or a favorite charity.

Wayne W. Brunet
RANDOLPH — Wayne W. Brunet, 61, died June 3, 2002, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born April 24, 1941, in Governeur, N.Y., the son of Maurice and Olive (Raymo) Brunet.
He attended schools in Potsdam, N.Y., and received an associate’s degree from Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C.
He married
Hallery Thompson on May 4, 1963, in Postsdam, N.Y.
Mr. Brunet was employed by DuBois & King for several years and most recently by Vermont Pure Springs, both in Randolph.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Georgetown, and had received many awards and citations while in the service.
He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Knights Templar Masonic Lodge and Montague Golf Club.
Mr. Brunet was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Randolph; three sons, James Brunet of Jacksonville, Fla., Bill Brunet of Essex Junction and Bob Brunet of Waco, Texas; a daughter, Jodie Donahue of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Richard Brunet of Potsdam, N.Y.; three sisters, Elizabeth Smalley of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Joan LaPointe and Patricia Perkins, both of Potsdam, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph with the Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. Burial will follow in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

LUDLOW — Marvin F. Benson, 65, died June 2, 2002, at Dartmouth Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Rubert E. Clark
WEATHERSFIELD — Rubert E. Clark, 84, died June 1, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center’s Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
He was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Montpelier, the son of William and Luella (Cherrier) Clark.
He graduated form Windsor High School in 1937.
He married
Marylyn Plumb on Dec. 15, 1948, in Windsor.
Mr. Clark was employed at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Cone Automatic Machine Co., both in Windsor, and later at the Sullivan Machine Shop in Claremont, N.H., Bryant Grinder Corp. in Springfield and Gear Shaper in Springfield, where he retired after 28 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the infantry during World War II in Italy, and later served in the National Guard in Windsor.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 25 in Windsor and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Springfield.
Mr. Clark was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his companion, Barbara Jarvis of Weathersfield; two daughters, Brenda LaCass of Claremont, N.H., and Sharon Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Marjorie Overman of Cornish, N.H.; an aunt; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1981; a brother, Maurice Clark; and a sister, Eunice Overman.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Plains cemetery in Perkinsville.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
Gary P. Merling
HINSDALE, N.H. — Gary Paul Merling, 45, died June 1, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born Nov. 30, 1956, in San Diego, Calif., the son of Donald and Dorothy (Newcity) Merling.
He graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1975.
He married
Betsie Zullo on Dec. 31, 1991, in Brattleboro.
Mr. Merling was employed as a tree surgeon for 22 years, most recently by Lewis Tree Service based in Rochester, N.Y., for the last 3˝ years.
He was an avid NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gregory Merling of Hinsdale; a daughter, Jane Smith of Sunderland, Mass.; his mother, Dorothy Covey of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a brother, David Merling of Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a sister, Deborah Smith of Fort Myers, Fla.; a granddaughter; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Centre Congregational Church with the Rev. Fred Edmonds, pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Emmy P. Moses
DORSET — The memorial service for Emmy P. “Bunny” Moses, 79, who died Nov. 30, 2001, will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Dorset and East Rupert with the Rev. Jim Gray officiating. A reception will follow in the church vestry.

Ienza D. Robinson
WINDSOR — The graveside service for Ienza D. Robinson, 94, who died Jan. 24, 2002, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Ascutney cemetery in Windsor with the Rev. Brian Sayers officiating.

Helen A. Putnam Rites
WILMINGTON — The funeral service for Helen A. Putnam, 77, who died May 26, 2002, was held Friday at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home with Jennifer Wade of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Bennington officiating. Following cremation burial was held Saturday in West Wardsboro cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home.
Lewis E. Stratton Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Lewis E. Stratton, who died May 31, 2002, was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, CSC, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in White Chapel cemetery.
Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloists were Sharon Yarnall and Kristin Long, a granddaughter.
A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.
The wake service was held Sunday afternoon at the funeral home by the Rev. Coppola.
A reception for family and friends followed the service at the Parish Center.
