Irene Ptasnik
SPRINGFIELD — Irene Ptasnik, 86, formerly of Springfield, died peacefully Friday morning, July 13, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington after a brief illness.
She was born June 5, 1915, in Claremont, N.H., the second of eight children of Joseph and Stella (Duras) Abrahamovich. She attended Springfield public schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1935.
On January 16, 1937, she married
Waseil Ptasnik in Keene, N.H. On the death of her mother, she returned with her husband to the family homestead where she spent most of her adult life enjoying and caring for her extended family. Following her husband’s death in 1988, she moved to the Maples Adult Residence in Springfield where she enjoyed an enlarging circle of fine new friends. Her final year was spent living happily at the Ethan Allen Residence in Burlington.
Irene is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Sten Fersing of Burlington; four grandchildren, Derek and wife Helen Fersing of Milton, Kirsten and husband David Fitzgerald of Bainbridge, Wash., Kyle and wife Tammy Fersing of St. Albans and Erika Kneeland of Woburn, Mass.; six great-grandchildren, Nicole and Liam Fersing, Davin and Ryan Fitzgerald, and Avery and Hayden Fersing; three brothers, Michael and his wife, and Irene’s special friend, Miriam of Springfield, Stanley Abrahamovich of Rutland, and Walter Abrahamovich and his wife Ann of Springfield. She also leaves special sisters-in-law, Maya Ptasnik of Kansas City, Mo., and Dot Anders of Laconia, N.H.; a brother-in-law, Peter Ptasnik of Charlestown, N.H.; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Wa-seil; her daughter, Patricia Knee-land; and three brothers, Tony, Joseph and Eddie Abrahamovich.
Irene was a quiet, caring woman, always ready to help a friend, never forgetting a special event.
There will be no visiting hours.
A graveside committal service will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. in the family lot in Oakland cemetery with the Rev. John Morris, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chester, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Asso-ciation of Southeastern Vermont, 366 River St., Springfield, Vt., 05156.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Alvin D. Jenkins
BENNINGTON — Alvin D. Jenkins, 88, died July 13, 2001, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Arrangements are pending with Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Daphne M. Ericson rites
CHESTERFIELD, N.H. — The funeral services celebrating the life of Daphne M. Ericson, 91, who died July 11, 2001, were held Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Chesterfield with the Rev. Lew Miller, pastor of Grace Community Evangelical Free Church in Spofford, officiating. Committal services and burial followed in Friedsam cemetery.
Organist was JoAnne McLean. Special music included the Rev. Miller on guitar.
Scriptural readings were given by the Rev. Miller.
Words of remembrance were offered by Audrey Ericson, a daughter-in-law, Raymond Clever, Mrs. Ericson’s former supervisor at the Holstein Association and the Rev. Delwyn “Chuck” Brooks, a nephew.
Eulogy was given by the Rev. Miller. He also read a poem.
Pallbearers were Peter Ericson, Dean Ericson and Wayne Guyette, all grandsons, Gerry Brooks, Wesley Ives and Delwyn Brooks, all nephews.
Attending the services were delegations representing Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Dept, Keene Fire Department, the church family from Asbury United Methodist Church, and many friends and neighbors.
A reception followed the services at the home of Mrs. Ericson’s son, Harry Ericson on Old Chesterfield Road.
Arrangements were under the direction of Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
Helen Norris
MONKTON — Helen Norris died July 12, 2001, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.
She was born Feb. 18, 1908, in Newport Center, daughter of Charles and Flora (Russell) Buck.
She married
Kenneth Norris on Dec. 31, 1924. He died in 1995 after 70 years of marriage.
Mrs. Norris’ life was dedicated to family and farming pursuits over the years in Newport Center, Starksboro, Hinesburg, Shoreham and New Haven.
Survivors include four daughters, Norma Sheehan of Burling-ton, Anita Oberle of Monkton, Jean Konstantino of Cheshire, Conn., and Dixie Bassett of West Melbourne, Fla.; nine sons, Win-ston Norris and Glen Norris, both of Bristol, Mahlon Norris of Starksboro, Jack Norris of Devon, Conn., Robert Norris, Gary Norris and Terry Norris, all of Shoreham, Peter Norris and Richard Norris, both of Monkton; 52 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Marjorie Shepard of Panton.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Bristol Federated Church in Bristol. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery in Bristol.
Calling hours will be held Sun-day from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.

Anna Baird
NORTH CLARENDON — Anna Baird, 48, died June 2, 2002.
She was born Jan. 10, 1954, in Proctor, the daughter of Eugene and Beatrice (Harvey) Pelletier.
She graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1972 and the University of North Carolina.
She married
David Baird on Sept. 4, 1982.
Mrs. Baird was employed by Dr. Edward Reiman as a dental assistant until 1997, retiring due to illness.
She was an avid cross-stitcher. She also was a breeder of Persian cats and showed them.
Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Kathleen Pelletier of Wells and Cynthia Pelletier of Castleton; and three nieces and a nephew.
She was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Cheri Ferraro.
Funeral services are pending.
Kathryn M. Butler
Kathryn M. Butler, 92, of Rutland, died Saturday afternoon, June 1, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Mount Tabor, October 7, 1909, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Millard) Landon Sr.
She was married
August 9, 1928, to Clarence Butler, who died in 1988.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the Wallingford Baptist Church. She was a resident of Danby for many years before moving to Rutland.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was very generous with her work.
Surviving are one daughter, Evelyn B. Madis of Rutland; two sons, Paul E. Butler of Wallingford and Gene A. Butler of Rutland; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Leslie Roberts; two brothers, Cecil Landon and Edward Landon Jr.; and a sister, Helen Connors.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, today, at 11 a.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Bruce Bishop, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Scottsville cemetery in Danby.
There are no visiting hours.

Lillian A. Ferguson
Lillian A. Ferguson, 86, of Rutland, died June 3, 2002, at Haven Health Care in Rutland.

Floyd P. Thayer
Floyd P. Thayer, 79, of Vero Beach, Fla., and formerly Red Hook, N.Y., died Monday, June 3, 2002, in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
He was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Florence, Vt., the son of Walter B. and Mildred (Mills) Thayer.
Mr. Thayer graduated from Pittsford High School in 1940, and from the Merchant Marine Academy in New London, Conn.
During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines from 1943-1949.
Mr. Thayer was a senior staff engineer at IBM for 32 years, and retired in 1986.
After he retired, he bought a tree farm in Boonville, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth (Miner) Thayer of Vero Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Jeanette Rojeski of Greensboro, N.C., and Judy Sappington of Rifle, Colo.; two sons, Timothy Thayer of Red Hook, N.Y., and Terry Thayer of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Luke Sappington, Guy Sappington, Cody Thayer, Ryan Thayer, Nicholas Rojeski, Halli Rojeski, Emily Thayer and Jenine Thayer; two sisters, Viola Whittemore of Pittsford, Vt., and Phillis Swinyer of Rutland; a brother, Walter Thayer of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Larry Thayer and Phillip Thayer.

The graveside service will be held in St. Alphonsus cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Anthony J. Stack
MOUNT TABOR — Anthony J. Stack, 78, died June 2, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born July 12, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Anthony and Mary (Lipman) Stacknowitz.
He received his education in the Brooklyn (N.Y.) schools and attended Hofstra University.
He married
Anna Dadura on Aug. 3, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Stack was employed by Western Electric as a telecom communications installer, retiring after 38 years of service. He and his wife then moved to Vermont from Huntington, N.Y.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was stationed in Greenland where he helped set up the first Early Warning Detection System.
He was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in East Dorset and the AT&T Pioneers organization.
Mr. Stack enjoyed drawing and was a cartoonist. He was also an avid woodworker and gardener.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Roy Stack of Jackson, N.J.; two daughters, Nancy Hehir of Mount Tabor and Audrey Cassidy of Bayshore, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Stacknowitz of Powerton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in East Dorset with the Rev. Jullian LaFlamme, pastor, officiating. Concelebrating will be the Rev. Michael Demasi. Burial will follow in Danby cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral and Cremation Service in Manchester Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Vivian M. Bissitte
The funeral service for Vivian M. Bissitte, 82, of Rutland, who died May 31, 2002, will be held Friday at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
