William R. Macfarlane Sr.
William R. Macfarlane Sr., 87, of Rutland, died March 29, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 23, 1914, in Wallingford, the son of Albert and Alice (Wilson) Macfarlane.
He graduated from Wallingford High School.
He was married
to Mary Eliz-abeth McFarren who died in 1989.
Mr. Macfarlane was employed at True Temper in Wallingford for 37 years and later with the Rutland City School De-partment for more than 10 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Op-er-ations.
He was a mem-ber of St. Peter’s Church and the Holy Name So-ciety, and a life member of the Knights of Colum-bus Council 232. He was also a Scoutmaster for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Stanley of Rutland; two sons, William Macfarlane Jr. of Rutland and Edmund Macfarlane of Gainsville, Va.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Rothman and Alice Bur-ton; and two brothers, Edmund Macfarlane and Albert Macfarlane.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. A private burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Lawrence A. Taggart
Lawrence A. Taggart, 77, of Rutland, died March 29, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Estelle G. Coursey
Estelle G. Coursey, 89, of Rut-land, died March 29, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Michael and Louise (Constance) Gordon.
She married
Clarence Coursey on May 7, 1934, in Detroit, Mich. He died in 1985.
She was employed as a cook at the Fairmont Restaurant, Bardwell Hotel and Prouse’s Restaurant.
Mrs. Coursey was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was active with RSVP at Rut-land Regional Medical Center, a volunteer at Arts in Process Sum-mer Program, and a volunteer at Vermont Department of Health in the Rutland area.
She enjoyed knitting for RSVP.
Survivors include a son, Gerard Coursey of Rutland; two daughters, Constance Robley of Norman, Okla., and Michele Egan of Ira; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
The memorial Mass is pending for a later date at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Catherine S. Mayer
LUDLOW — Catherine Sullivan Mayer, 82, died March 28, 2002, at Haven Health Care in Rutland.
She was born Aug. 28, 2002, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Scanlon) Sullivan.
She graduated from Cathedral High School and Therese Aub Secretarial School in the Bronx.
She married
Jerome Mayer in 1957 in New York City.
Mrs. Mayer was secretary to the vice president of National-Simplex-Bludworth and an administrative assistant at John C. Crystal Center, both in New York City.
She was a member of the Lud-low Garden Club, and a volunteer in the Ludlow Senior Center and Black River Academy Museum as secretary. She also served on the Board of Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking, skiing, traveling and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jay Mayer of Chittenden and Gregory Mayer of Scarsdale, N.Y.; two stepchildren, Betsy Mayer of New York City and David Mayer of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Mary Flem-ing of Point Lookout, Long Island; two grandchildren; and three nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation in Ludlow. Burial will be at a later date in Pleasant View cemetery in Ludlow.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Ludlow.

Edith M. Baker
EAST DORSET — Edith M. (O’Rourke) Baker, 66, died March 29, 2002, at Centers for the Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
She was born April 15, 1935, in Dorset, the daughter of Channey and Mamie (Moffitt) Butler.
She attended schools in Dorset.
She worked as a chamber maid at Stratton and the Valley View Mo-tel in Manchester for many years.
Mrs. Baker enjoyed berry picking, fishing, knitting, sewing and crochet.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of East Dorset; two brothers, Kenny Butler of Arlington and Richard Butler of Gansevoort, N.Y.; and two sisters, Hazel Hale of Weston and Norma Plumber of Keene, N.H.
The graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Maple Hill cemetery in Dorset. Crema-tion took place at Vermont Crema-tion Service in Bennington.
There will be no calling hours.

Marion A. Allen
WESTMINSTER — Marion Al-berta Phelps Allen, 97, died March 29, 2002, at Springfield Hospital.
She was born Nov. 13, 1904, in Halifax, the daughter of Walter and Jennie (Cook) Phelps.
The family moved to West Guil-ford where she attended a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1922 and Teacher Training in Brattleboro.
She married
Darius Allen on June 29, 1926.
Mrs. Allen taught at a one-room schoolhouse in Dummerston.
She was a member of Christ’s Church, Historical Society and Club 39, all in Saxtons River and the Bellows Falls Women’s Club.
She enjoyed western square dancing with her husband, sewing, crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Leigh-ton; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1993; and three children, Donald, Shirley and Laurence.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Christ’s Church in Saxtons River with the Rev. Joan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Saxtons River cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Raymond A. King
DREWSVILLE, N.H. — Ray-mond Allen King Sr., 66, died March 28, 2002, at home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Meriden, the son of Ronald and Martha King. He attended schools in West-minster.
He married
Susan Wilson on Nov. 17, 1967, in Gilsum.
Mr. King owned and operated Ray’s Auto Body in Drewsville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed watching auto racing.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray King Jr. of Ascutney, Vt.; a daugh-ter, Page King of Charles-town, N.H.; 13 siblings, Frances Brochu, Reginald King, Joyce Keeler, Clarice Short, Norma Ives, Alton King, Fred King, Dennis King, Sheila Hutchins, Darlene Hutchins, Cheryl Aplin, Dolores Sylvester and Randy King; and two grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Pine Grove cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Satur-day from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Michalena S. Bradshaw
PRINCETOWN, N.Y. — Michalena Stasieczko Bradshaw, 76, died April 3, 2002, at St. Clare’s Hospital.
She was born in Danby, Vt., and graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland, Vt., in 1943.
After graduation she moved to Schenectady to work for General Electric Co.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Schenectady and a past member of the church choir.
Survivors include five sons, Paul Bradshaw, Thomas Bradshaw and Curtis Bradshaw, all of Schenectady, Brian Bradshaw of Amsterdam and Alton Bradshaw of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters, Lorraine Sturges, LTC, of Burnt Hills, Ramona Decker of Altamont and Joan Chiwiwi of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Grace Smith of Arlington, Vt.; and 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alton Bradshaw, in 1997; and by four brothers, John Stasieczko, Anthony Stasieczko, Joseph Stasieczko and Frank Stasieczko.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Schenectady, and continue at St. Joseph’s Church with a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in Niskayuna.
Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Angelica P. Allan
LUTHERVILLE, Md. — Angelica Peale Allan, a summer resident of Shrewsbury, died at her home here on April 2, 2002. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., on March 31, 1912, the daughter of Lucy James (Cook) Iglehart and Francis Nash Iglehart. She attended schools in Maryland, and studied art in Paris and at the Maryland Institute.
She married
Warde B. Allan, an internist and associate professor of medicine at John Hopkins University, on December 2, 1933. He died in 1985.
She loved riding, gardening and the environment.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Aleshire of Shrewsbury; her son, David Allan of Owings Mills, Md.; three grandchildren, Anne Aleshire of Oakland, Calif., Michael Allan of Los Angeles and Scott Allan of Norfolk, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Ixcanil Lopez Aleshire of Oakland, Calif.
