Mafalda Lemmo
A funeral Mass for Mafalda “Muffy” Lemmo, 82, who died Tuesday in Rutland, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church.
Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Helen B. Davis
HUBBARDTON — The funeral service for Helen “Peg” Boyce Davis, 92, who died March 12, 2002, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the East Hubbardton Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Shortsleeves, pastor, officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in Woodlawn cemetery in Acton, Mass.
The family will receive friends at the Trak-In Restaurant on Lake Bomoseen from 2 to 4 p.m. for a time of fellowship and reflection following the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
Joseph A. Fredette Rites
The funeral Mass for Joseph A. Fredette, 75, of Rutland, who died March 18, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland with the Rev. John Herbert, associate pastor, as celebrant. Concelebrant was the Rev. Raymond D. Walsh, chaplain of the Loretto Home. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
Organist was James Cassarino and vocalist was Helen Davidson.
American Legion Post 31 provided military honors. Lowell Wheelock made the flag presentation. James Burke sounded taps.
Bearers were Paul Fredette, Ted Roussil, Michael Gravelle, John Calvin, James Calvin and Greg Calvin.
A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at the Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. John Herbert. Members of the Disabled American Veterans also held a prayer service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Kathleen K. Webber Rites
The private funeral service for Kathleen K. Webber, 58, of Rutland Town, who died March 18, 2002, was held Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church Chapel with the Rev. Christopher A. Powell, rector, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen cemetery.
Organist was Betty Clark.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
Arthur O. Brown Rites
FOREST DALE — The funeral service for Arthur Oriean Brown, 94, who died March 18, 2002, was held Thursday at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon with the Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, officiating. A private burial followed in Forest Dale cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andrew Brown, Ray Bradish, Randy Jones and Kenneth Brown.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Joan S. Ridolfo Rites
FAIR HAVEN — The memorial service for Joan Sandra Ridolfo, 71, who died March 17, 2002, was held Thursday at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven with the Rev. Ashley Meade, pastor of the Dresden Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
Donald E. Short
CHESTER — Donald E. Short, 75, died March 20, 2002, at home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Bellows Falls, the son of Edward and Helen (Spencer) Short.
He was educated in Bellows Falls and attended Bellows Falls High School.
He worked for Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield as a machinist for 42 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Short was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He served with the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and sugaring. He also enjoyed making furniture out of wood.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Pebbles) Short; a son, Keith Short of Langdon, N.H.; two daughters, Gail Kindberg of Stratham, N.H., and Jean Merritt of North Springfield; three stepdaughters, Linda Holbrook of Langdon, Kathy Bailey of Barnstead, N.H., and Donna Ward of Charlestown, N.H.; a brother, Eugene Short of Portsmouth, N.H.; a sister, Myrtle Litchfield of Harvest, Ala.; an uncle; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandsons; and four nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Eleanor Short; and two infant sons.
The funeral service will be held Monday, at 11 a.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery in Springfield.
Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hospice and Visiting Nurses Association, 46 S. Main St., White River Junction, 05001.

Hazel S. Malone
HAMDEN, Conn. — Hazel Stowell Malone, 93, died Feb. 25, 2002, at St. Raphael’s Hospital.
She was born Jan. 31, 1909, in Windham, the daughter of Elias and Minnie Stowell.
She married
John Malone on Oct. 17, 1934. He died in 1965.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., John of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Gerald of Hamden; five sisters, Marion Parks of South Hadley, Mass., Florence Dudley of Elkridge, Md., Alice Bliss of Chester, Vt., Margaret Trusty of Hamden and Evelyn Earle of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Floyd Stowell of Springfield, Vt.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by seven brothers, Clifford Stowell, Leonard Stowell, Edwin Stowell, Robert Stowell, George Stowell, Lewis Stowell and Martin Stowell; and two sisters, Effie Tenney and Myrtie Pollard.
The funeral service was held March 1 at St. Rita’s Church in Hamden. Burial followed in St. Lawrence cemetery in West Haven.
Patricia A. Garmel
WINDSOR — Patricia A. Garmel, 67, died March 20, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
David Gil
BENNINGTON — David Gil, 79, of North Pownal died March 18, 2002, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born May 29, 1922, in New York City, the son of Louis and Rose Goldfarb.
He graduated from the School of Ceramic Design at Alfred University with a bachelor’s degree.
Mr. Gill moved to Bennington and founded Bennington Potters Inc. in 1948. His 54-year career began with a one-man operation and grew to include multiple stores, a restaurant, a mail-order business, contract art production and a ceramic factory. He spent his last five years building his successor’s operation.
He served as a merchant seaman during World War II.
He enjoyed art, design and production.
Survivors include his wife, Sheela Harden; two sons, Martin Gil of Colchester and Michael Gil of Los Angeles; two daughters, Jane Dicillo of New York City and Sally Johnston of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Saul Gilford of Oberlin, Ohio; and a nephew.
The funeral service will be private. A memorial celebration at Bennington Potters will be held at a later date.

Grace L. Luther
NEWFANE — Grace Louise Luther, 96, died March 21, 2002, at the residence of her grandniece, Evelyn Stevenson.
She was born Jan. 7, 1906, in Closter, N.J., the daughter of John and Amelia (Mohrman) Hoffman.
She graduated from Closter High School.
Mrs. Luther was a longtime member of the Reform Church of Closter.
She enjoyed television game shows and reading.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and several great-grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Luther, in 1957; seven brothers; and four sisters.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Moritz Funeral Home in Closter. Burial will follow in Westwood cemetery in Westwood, N.J.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
Margaret R. Dunagin Rites
WEATHERSFIELD — The funeral Mass for Margaret R. Dunagin, 76, who died March 18, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield with the Rev. Shawn Therrien, pastor of St. Catherine’s Church in Charlestown, N.H., as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Organist was Rafal Nowak who accompanied the Rejoice Choir. Soloist and cantor was Harry Smith.
Bearers were Mike Fitch, James Dugay, Chris Dugay, Sean Dunagin, Philip Bailey and Bryan Dunagin.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Donald J. Gold
Donald J. Gold, 72 years old, born June 21, 1929, passed away March 21, 2002, in St. Augustine, Florida. He was a native of Brook-lyn, New York, and resided in Boca Raton, Florida prior to moving to St. Augustine, Florida.
He is the son of Fred and Eslyn Gold. He is survived by his companion, Norma Brown, son Larry Gold, daughter Lisa Peterford, and his grandchildren Kevin Peterford, David Gold, and Eric Peterford.
His family, neighbors and long time friends will deeply miss him. Donald had a passion for power boating, sailing and loved helping friends and family.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m. at the Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine.
Family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Adrenocortical Carcinoma Research Fund of the University of Texas at the M.D. Anderson Can-cer Center, or NorthEast Hospice of Jacksonville, Florida.
Craig Funeral Home and Crem-atory are in charge of the arrangements.
Charles R. Jay
POULTNEY — The graveside committal service for Charles Rollin Jay, 73, who died Jan. 4. 2002, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Wells Village cemetery with the Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Poultney, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.
Gary S. Dugan
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Gary S. Dugan, 47, a former resident of Bomoseen, Vermont died March 21, 2002, at the East Pasco Medical Center.
Gary was born on January 6, 1955, in Demarest, New Jersey, the son of George and Dorothea (Coates) Dugan. Gary’s family moved to Vermont in 1969. He graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Sean and Joshua; his mother, Dorothea Coates; three cousins, Richard, Lawrence, and Wayne Schiller; and his aunt and uncle, Richard and Marie Schiller.
Predeceased by his stepfather Robert Coates, an important influence in Gary’s life.
Services will be held at the Coleman and Ferguson Funeral Home in Zephyrhills, Florida on Monday, March 25, 2002. u
