Raymond E. Bicknell
NEW HAVEN — Raymond Edward Bicknell, 73, died Feb. 26, 2002, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
He was born April 2, 1928, in Essex, the son of Wentworth and Florence (Ladue) Bicknell.
Survivors include a brother, William Bicknell of Shalimar, Fla.; a sister, Eraldine Sweeney of Colchester; an aunt; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph cemetery in Bristol.
Contributions may be made to the Addison County Humane Society, Middlebury, 05753.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.
Walter L. Giard Rites
BRIDPORT — The funeral service for Walter L. Giard, who died Feb. 24, 2002, was held Thursday at the Bridport Congregational Church with the Rev. Tim Franklin, pastor, officiating. The committal service and burial will be at a later date in Bridport Central cemetery.
Soloist was Lisa Huestis.
A reception followed the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Betty Mae Arnold Rites
ORWELL — The memorial service for Betty Mae Arnold, who died Feb. 21, 2002, was held Thursday at the Orwell Congregational Church with the Rev. Nicholas Thornblade officiating. The committal service and burial will be at a later date in Mountain View cemetery in Orwell.
Organist was Frances Ehmann and guitarist was Peggy Flemming.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Gladys P. Loso
Gladys “Carrot” Peterson Loso, 79, of Rutland died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2002, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in West Rutland on April 9, 1922, the daughter of Clarence and Iva (Landon) O’Connor.
As a child she was raised in Proctor, attending local schools and graduating from Proctor High School with the class of 1940. Following graduation she remained an active member and organist of the St. Dominic Church.
She was married
to Arnold C. “Chet” Peterson (deceased) on October 7, 1942, in East Hartford, Conn., and moved to Kingston, New York, becoming active with the local YWCA, the PTA and the Catholic Daughters Association.
“Carrot” has been a longtime resident of Rutland and member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Rutland Country Club, the Ladies of the Moose and the local PTAs.
She had been employed by the Economy Department Store.
“Carrot” was a family person who cherished and loved her family and home where all were welcome.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert F. Loso, whom she married
June 24, 2000; three daughters, Patricia St. Peter of Rutland, Sheila Dickerman of Brandon, Pamela Jasmin of Rutland Town; five grandchildren, Stuart St. Peter, Christine St. Peter Levensohn, Jill St. Peter McKeever, Michael Dickerman and Jennifer Jasmin; two great-grand-children, Mad-eleine Rose Leven-sohn and Austin Dickerman; two sisters, Joyce McLaughlin and Rita Galus, both of Rutland; a stepdaughter, Barbara McDougall of Seymour, Conn.; three stepsons, Thomas Loso of Wartrace, Tenn., Richard Loso of West Haven, Conn., Stephen Loso of Fairfield, Conn.; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Arnold C. Peterson in 1985; and her brother, Joseph O’Connor.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Burial will be at a later date in the South Street cemetery in Proctor.
Friends may call at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland, on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Elsie W. Hayes
Elsie W. Hayes, 90, of Rutland died Feb. 19, 2002, at Roncalli Health Center in Rutland.
She was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Granville, N.Y., the daughter of George and Mabel (Winchell) Winchell.
Mrs. Hayes had worked as a domestic for the Raymond Haskins family in Pawlet for 17 years, and after their death for the Adella Community Care Home in Danby, where she later became a resident after retiring.
She enjoyed traveling, sewing and country music.
Survivors include her goddaughter, Jennifer Haskell of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; and close friends, Helen Billings and the Ken Bushee family, both of Danby, the Gordon Bushee family of East Hampton, Conn., and the Lorraine Carrington family of Cambridge, N.Y.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hayes, in 1946; and a brother, Leonard Winchell.
There will be no calling hours.
The memorial service will be held at a later date in Mettowee Valley cemetery in Pawlet, where her ashes will be buried.

Freida L. Dickerson
COMO, Miss. — Freida L. Dickerson, 69, a former resident of Poultney, Vt., died Feb. 15, 2002, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Dickerson is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lloyd Dickerson; three daughters, Pamela Tracey of Hornlake, Miss., Charlene Shaw of Dallas, Texas, and Candy Fowler of Memphis Tenn.; five grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Private services were held Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.

Grace A. Timpanaro
BENNINGTON — Grace Anna Timpanaro, 92, of Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Feb. 19, 2002.
She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Astoria Queens, N.Y., the daughter of James and Anna (Weyer) Burke.
She received her education in Queens.
She married
Sylvester Timpanaro on Dec. 5, 1942, in Meriden, Conn. He died in 1977.
Mrs. Timpanaro worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City in the record keeping and payroll departments.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, and a member of AARP in Bennington and the Bennington Senior Center.
She enjoyed embroidery, bicycle riding and traveling.
Survivors include a brother, James Burke of Bennington; a nephew and niece; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A prayer service will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington, followed by a Mass at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will take place Monday in Bayview cemetery in Jersey City, N.J.
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clifton E. Southard
WINDSOR — Clifton E. Southard, 80, died Feb. 19, 2002, at Integrated Health Services in Claremont, N.H.
He was born May 23, 1921, in Willimantic, Maine, the son of William and Florence (Arnold) Southard.
He attended school in Corinna, Maine.
He married
Marion Blackmore on Sept. 15, 1951, in White River Junction.
Mr. Southard worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Windsor for 32 years before retiring.
He served with the 2nd Armored Division during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the European Ribbon with six service stars.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a 4-H leader for the Mount Ascutney 4-H for 10 years, and earned his private pilot’s license in Lebanon, N.H.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Southard of Windsor and Richard Southard of Claremont; a daughter, Bonnie Franklin of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Lois Chute of Falmouth, Maine, Dot Skolfield of East Corinth, Maine, and Jane Harkin of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Ralph Smith of Brewer, Maine; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Gerald L. Stigall, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Ascutney cemetery in Windsor.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Walter C. Wright Jr.
ASCUTNEY — Walter C. Wright Jr., 94, died Feb. 19, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center in Windsor.
He was born June 12, 1907, in Providence, R.I., the son of Walter and Agnes (Duffy) Wright.
He attended school in Seekonk, Mass.
Mr. Wright married
Beatrice O’Donnell on Nov. 26, 1931, in Pawtucket, R.I.
He worked at Stackbin Corp. in Lincoln, R.I., for many years and later at Railway Express in Providence, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor.
Survivors include two sons, W. Lawrence Wright of Wareham, Mass., and Dennis Wright of Windsor; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1989 and a son, Robert Wright, in 1965.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Mount St. Mary’s cemetery in East Providence, R.I.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
