Natt L. Divoll Jr.
ROCKINGHAM — Natt L. Divoll Jr., 88, died Feb. 11, 2002, in Inverness, Fla.
He was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Rockingham, the son of Natt and Louie (Jamieson) Divoll.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School and Middlebury College in 1934. He also graduated from the Brooklyn School of Law.
He married
Josephine Knox on June 26, 1937, in Lake Mowhawk, N.J.
Mr. Divoll worked as a farmer in Rockingham, a lawyer and a municipal judge in Bellows Falls. He also served as a Superior Court judge and chief Superior Court judge for the state of Vermont.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a past commander of the American Legion and a member of the BPOE. He served on the original Union High School Board and the Rockingham Library Board. He was a member of the Rockingham Meeting House Association, and served on the Rockingham Board of Selectmen. He also served as the secretary of the Senate and as clerk of the House of Representatives.
Survivors include three sons, N. Lincoln Divoll III and Scott Divoll, both of Rockingham, and Knox Divoll of Manchester; a daughter, Marcia Divoll of Nahant, Mass.; and three grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at a later date at the Rockingham Meeting House.

Lucy A. VanOrman
BENNINGTON — Lucy A. VanOrman, 84, died Feb. 13, 2002, at Safford Manor in Bennington.
She was born June 22, 1917, in Wilmington, the daughter of Perley and Grace (Lowe) Vose.
She received her education in Wilmington.
She married
Henry VanOrman Sr. on May 3, 1936, in East Rupert. He died in 1981.
Mrs. VanOrman had been employed at Crescent Manor Nursing Home for 16 years.
Survivors include a son, Henry VanOrman of Bennington; a daughter, June King of Pownal; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Virginia LaFlamme and Lucille Percey; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Ruth Robbins; and five brothers, Hollis, Jesse, Clayton, Leslie and Daniel Vose.
The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in White Chapel cemetery with the Rev. George Eberle, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Barbara J. Warner
SIMONSVILLE — Barbara Jean Warner, 68, died Feb. 13, 2002, at Springfield Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1933, in Rutland, the daughter of John and Hazel (Flanders) Sanford.
She attended schools in Rutland and the Springfield area, and graduated from Chester High School. She also attended nursing school in Boston.
She married
Harold Warner on Dec. 18, 1971, in Chester.
Mrs. Warner worked in the area as a nurse’s aide and as a machinist at Simmonds Precison Products in Bellows Falls.
She was an Elvis Presley fan, and enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing and country and western music.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Floyd Quimby of Chester; a stepson, Malcolm Warner of Wallingford; two daughters, Sherry Watmough of Warren, Maine, and Tammy Mitchell of Alamogordo, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Marguerite Knight of Weston; three brothers, Joseph Sanford of Rutland, Walter Jenkins of Reading and Orman Jenkins of Holiday, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Clark of Peru and Beverly Denden of Windham; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Gordon; a brother, James Jenkins; and a sister, Audrey Sabitino.
The graveside service will take place at a later date in Simonsville cemetery.

Stephen M. King
PUTNEY — Stephen M. King, 60, died Feb. 14, 2002, at Hanover Terrace in Hanover, N.H., from Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Jan. 9, 1942, in Greenfield, Mass., the son of Clarence and Jeanette (Ingram) King.
He graduated from Brattleboro Union High School.
He married
Janice West on Jan. 26, 1963, in Kissimmee, Fla.
Mr. King drove tractor-trailer trucks in Florida for several months and after returning to Vermont, he worked for Putney Paper Co. He later established his own business, King Builders, retiring in 1996 after 30 years as a building contractor. He also poured concrete for 20 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. King served as a Putney town lister for one term.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and was an avid country and western music fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradley King of East Dummerston; a daughter, Janet Snow of East Dummerston; a daughter from a previous marriage; three sisters, Carolyn O’Driscoll of Ludlow, Mass., Janice Stockwell and Virginia Hale, both of East Putney; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph King; and three sisters, Janet King, Gloria King and June Lunn.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Genesis Church of the Brethren in Putney with the Rev. Michael Henkle officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at a later date in Mount Pleasant cemetery.
A reception will follow the funeral service.
There will be no calling hours.

Eleanore S. Davis
Eleanore S. Davis, 88, of Edina, Minn., and formerly of Rutland, died Feb. 19, 2002, at Fairview Hospital in Edina.
She was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Rodney and Abigail (Fish) Swift.
She graduated from Whitcomb High School in Bethel and Northampton (Mass.) Commercial College.
She married
Max Davis of Pittsfield on April 15, 1933.
Mrs. Davis worked as a bookkeeper for Seward’s Dairy for many years.
She was a member of the Rutland Methodist Church and more recently of the Church of Peace United Methodist Church in Edina. She was a longtime member of the Proctor-Pittsford Country Club, and participated in many volunteer activities throughout her life.
Survivors include a son, Norman Davis of Stillwater, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1968; a son, Richard Davis, in 2001; and three brothers, William, Merrill and Rodney Swift.
The memorial service was held Sunday at the Church of Peace in Minnesota, and another service will be held at a later date in Vermont.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
Mary E. McElhinney
Mary E. McElhinney, 84, of Rutland died Feb. 28, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland.
She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Rutherford, N.J., the daughter of Homer and Isabella (Van Orden) Hasbrouck Sr.
She graduated from Rutherford High School in New Jersey in 1936 and Orange Memorial School of Nursing in Orange, N.J., in 1939.
She married
Daniel McElhinney in 1944 in Manhattan, N.Y. He died in 1979.
Mrs. McElhinney was employed by Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan as a registered nurse, retiring in 1980. She then moved to Rutland.
She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a nurse at Brooklyn Navy Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Survivors include a son, Charles McElhinney of Rutland; two brothers, Eltinge Hasbrouck of Pittsford and Homer Hasbrouck II of Florida; two sisters, Clarabelle Breault and Barbara Poljacik, both of Pittsford; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Church.
Friends may call Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Frances R. McCullough
Frances Rosalynd McCullough, 81, of Rutland died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, courageously after a long-term illness surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Rutland, August 14, 1920, daughter of Francis “Frank” E. and Nellie S. (Morton) Mailhiot.
Frances, a lifetime resident, attended Rutland schools. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1938 and Rutland Business College in 1940.
Her career varied which included working at REP, General Electric and in retail sales with Charles Sterns Company and the Economy Department Store. Then, in 1944, she joined New England Telephone Company where she worked as a long distance telephone operator until she retired in 1976.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she once served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a Cub Scout leader and member of the PTA during the early 1950’s. She was a member of the Rutland Historical Society in her later years.
Her talents included fashion designing and she was an excellent seamstress. For many years she designed tailored- made coats, ball room gowns, adult, children and teen fashions.
She was also a gifted artist in pen and ink and charcoal portraits of famous celebrities of the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Frances was married
to James D. “Mac” McCullough on September 10, 1950. Their loving and soul-mate relationship lasted 48 years. They especially enjoyed movies and traveling together from the Maine coast to Montreal, Texas and Las Vegas. Her beloved husband passed away on July 6, 1998.
She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Catherine Mary Mailhiot in infancy and Nettie J. Spencer of Rutland in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Dean K. McCullough and wife Mary of Rutland; and two daughters, Donna F. McCullough of Essex Junction and Sandra L. Kienitz and husband Doug of Georgetown, Texas. Four grandchildren, Kimberly K. (Kienitz) Smilie and husband Bob of Danville, Ind., Kaprice S. Kienitz of Plano, Texas, Eric J. McCullough of Rutland and April L. McCullough and her boyfriend Eric C. Ostrander of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Robert, Jonathan and James Smilie of Danville, Ind.; a niece, Marilyn J. (Spencer) Ciurca of Rochester, N.Y.; a nephew, Ronald G. Spencer of Tucson, Ariz.; a cousin, Joe Mailhiot of Rutland; and her mother-in-law, Edna McCullough of Port Charlotte, Fla.
Frances truly enjoyed the love of her pet dog, Coffey and the love of her family’s pets. Ashley (Donna’s cat), Bandit (Dean’s dog), Bailey (Kaprice’s dog), Fredo, Coalby and Popcorn (Sandie’s dogs and cat) and Samantha (Kim’s cat).
