Robert Davis
FAIR HAVEN — Robert “Montana” Davis, 71, died Feb. 9, 2002, at the Vermont Veterans Administrative Hospital in White River Junction.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Florence, the son of Edward and Armena Davis.
Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
He enjoyed boxing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Davis of Fair Haven; a son, Robert Davis of Whitehall, N.Y.; three brothers, Warren Davis of Benson, Albert Davis Sr. of West Rutland and William Davis of East Windsor, Conn.; two sisters, Margaret Jones of Ira and Hilda Davis of Brandon; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Dydo; and a brother, Wilfred Davis.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements will be made for a private family gathering.
Mary E. Kantorski Rites
The funeral Mass for Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Kantorski, 70, who died Feb. 7, 2002, was celebrated Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with the Rev. James McShane, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
Organist was Richard Brown and vocalist was Lori Routhier.
Bearers were Robert Baker Jr., Dean Baker, Jeffrey Bruso, Timothy Bruso, Ronnie Kantorski and Donald Lorraine.
A Christian prayer service was held Sunday at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. McShane presiding.

Edwin A. Pentkowski Rites
NORTH CLARENDON — The funeral Mass for Edwin Albert Pentkowski, 52, who died Feb. 7, 2002, was celebrated Monday at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, as celebrant. A private cremation service followed.
Organist was Paul Opel and vocalist was Helen Davidson.
Bearers were Judy and Peter Gildersleeve, Raymond Pentkowski, David Pentkowski, Kayla Gildersleeve, Courtney Gildersleeve, Peter Gildersleeve and Bryan Gildersleeve.
A Christian prayer service was held Sunday at the Aldous Funeral Home by the Rev. Houle. A Fraternal Club service was conducted by the Rutland Elks Lodge 345.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Silver Towers Camp, in care of Rutland Elks Lodge 345, Pleasant Street, Rutland, 05701.

Paul S. Huntley Rites
CASTLETON — A private military service for Paul S. Huntley, 74, who died Feb. 8, 2002, was held Monday at the Clifford Funeral Home. George Zsido of American Legion Post 31 presented the flag to the family. Interment followed in Evergreen cemetery. Burial will take place at a later date in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.
Bearers were Mark Ladabouche, Hale Ladabouche, Chris Ladabouche, Mark Rainville, Scott Huntley and Dr. Peter Stickney.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Mildred H. DeRosier
LUDLOW — Mildred H. DeRosier, 88, died at Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow on Feb. 11, 2002.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home.
Mary Livingston
BENNINGTON — Mary “Pat” Livingston, 72, died Feb. 9, 2002, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
She was born March 24, 1929, in Bennington, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Mathers) Coyne.
She graduated from the former Bennington High School
She married
Stanton Livingston Sr. on April 17, 1948, in Shaftsbury. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Livingston had been employed at the Jard Co., Tansitor Electronics, Bennington Pottery and Union Carbide Corp.
She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and camping.
Survivors include a daughter, Patti-Jean Dickie of Bennington; two sons, Stanton Livingston and Michael Livingston, both of Bennington; three sisters, Helena Powell of Amarillo, Texas, Gertrude Estes of Fort Myers, Fla., and Kathryn Brown of Randlett, Okla.; seven brothers, Milton Coyne, John Coyne, Edward Coyne, Stephen Coyne and Thomas Coyne, all of Bennington, Ralph Coyne of Randlett, Okla., and Gregory Coyne of Rifle, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Whitman in 2001.
The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in White Chapel cemetery.

Yvonne M. Maillet
BENNINGTON — Yvonne M. Maillet, 82, died Feb. 8, 2002, at Crescent Manor Care Centers.
She was born April 27, 1919, in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of John the Baptiste Cormier and Emma (Allain) Cornier.
She married
Louis Maillet on Nov. 28, 1941, in Rogersville.
Mrs. Maillet had been employed at Union Carbide Corp. and Thomson Manufacturing, from which she retired.
She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and St. Anne’s Society.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband of Bennington; a daughter, Linda Chaffin of Bennington; a son, Joseph Maillet of Penhook, Va.; four sisters, Anise Goguen, Florida Eaisley, Irene LeBlanc and Emerise Arseneault, all of New Brunswick, Canada; three brothers, Eddy Cormier of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Leo Cormier and Henrie Cormier, both of Rogersville, Canada; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Edna Lent.
The funeral will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer and continue at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. with a Mass. Burial will take place in Village cemetery in Bennington.

Magnor Vatner
SPRINGFIELD — Dr. Magnor “Rusty” Vatne, 79, died early Sunday morning February 10, 2002, at the Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
He was born in Vatne, Norway, on June 20, 1922, the son of Ludvig and Marie (Ulvestad) Vatne. A twin, he was next to the youngest of 14 children. He was educated in Norway, and received his DVD degree from Tufts Dental School in 1949. He returned to Norway and practiced for one year at a Bergen clinic, followed by one year in the Norwegian Army. Emigrating to the U.S., he interned one year in oral surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He then moved to Chester, Vt., where he opened his dental practice in August of 1952 at the Ellsworth Memorial Clinic.
On September 6, 1952, he married
Jeanne Gamlin in Greenfield, Mass., and they settled in Chester, Vt. In November of 1963 they relocated to Springfield. He continued his practice in Chester, and retired after 45 years of service in 1997. To celebrate his retirement, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of taking a cruise through the Panama Canal. Magnor was a steam engine buff and built his own 35-foot steamship, christened the “Vatnefjord,” which he steamed on the Connecticut River and later on Lake Winnepesaukee. He also had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed logging in the woods and haying the fields, and he loved to hike in his native Norway. He was also an avid skier and sometime hunter, When he wasn’t outdoors, he was happiest tinkering in his workshop where he would build small steam engines, repair and restore old radios and make parts for anything broken. He was a voracious reader of history and philosophy and always loved a good conversation.
He leaves his wife, Jeanne of Springfield; two sons, Peter of Nashua, N.H., and Thomas of Arlington, Mass.; three daughters, Karen Hack and husband, James, of Louisville, Colorado, Diane Vatne and her husband, Martin Yates, of Old Town, Maine, and Kristine Vatne of Springfield; four grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Hack, and Alexander and Emily Yates. He was predeceased by his parents and 13 siblings. He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews, both here and in Norway.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Connie M. Carey
SPRINGFIELD — Connie M. Carey, 64, died Feb. 10, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Skelton, W.Va., the daughter of George and Creota (Waugh) Sifers Sr.
She graduated from Collins High School in Oakhill, W.Va., in 1956, and then went to work for an insurance company in Columbus, Ohio.
Mrs. Carey was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Neil Carey of Springfield, whom she married
on June 8, 1957; two sons, Scott Carey and Ray Carey, both of Springfield; a sister, Amzetta Farley of Brunswick, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Clarence Sifers, George Sifers Jr. and Harold Sifers; and a sister, Ruth Burch.
The graveside service will be held at a later date in Oakland cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.
There will be no visiting hours.

Robert P. Harrington
SPRINGFIELD — Robert P. Harrington, 79, died Feb. 9, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Springfield, the son of Patrick and Eva (Detour) Harrington.
He graduated from Springfield High School and attended the University of Vermont.
Mr. Harrington operated P.J. Harrington’s Men’s Clothing Store and later worked at Furman’s.
He enlisted in the American Field Service, where he served with the British 8th Army and the American 5th Army in the medical corps.
He was a volunteer with the Vermont Juvenile Court System as a guardian ad litem for the past 15 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Lesley Harrington of Miami, Fla., Kelly Harrington of San Diego and Laurel Crandall of Dade City, Fla.; two sons, Pat Harrington of Perkinsville and Mike Harrington of Springfield; his former wife, Wanda (Yarosevich) Harrington of Springfield; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Morse in 1983.
A celebration of life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Springfield.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Methodist Church.
