NORTH CLARENDON — Edwin Pentkowski, 52, died Feb. 7, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Dorothea S. Clark
PAWLET — Mrs. Dorothea S. Clark, 101, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at the home of her son, Leon Clark in Pawlet, Vt.
Dorothea was born on July 27, 1900, in North Poultney, Vermont, the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Waller) Streeter. She graduated from the Troy Conference Academy in Poultney, Vermont, in 1919. After her graduation, she taught school for a period of two years.
On September 20, 1921, she married
Wilson H. Clark; he predeceased her in 1958. Dorothea was a member of the Wells Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society for eighty years. She was also an honored member of the Pawlet Historical Society. Dorothea was an outstanding lady, devoted to her family, church and community. She was an avid reader, writer of letters, poetry and historical accounts of her life in the region. She especially enjoyed baking, caring for her flowers and giving joy to others.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Wilson S. “Bill” Clark and his wife, Susan, John B. Clark and his wife, Barbara, Leon R. Clark Sr. and his wife, Dawn, all of Pawlet, Vermont; her eight grandchildren, nine and a half great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by four brothers, Carroll, Harry, Leon and Kenneth Streeter.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, Vt. The Rev. Donald Pepper, pastor of the Welsh Presbyterian Church of Poultney, will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the Wells cemetery. Following the burial, the Clark family will receive friends at the Wells Methodist Church.
Visiting hours will be on Saturday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Clark may be given to the Wells Methodist Church or to the Dorset Nursing Association, through the office of the funeral home at P.O. Box 181, Poultney, Vt., 05764.
Shirley A. Lane Rites
HYDEVILLE — The funeral Mass for Shirley Ann Derouchie Lane, 62, who died Feb. 4, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven with the Rev. Adam Krempa, parish priest of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Poultney, as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Greenwich, N.Y.
Organist was Nancy Wetherby, accompanied by the church choir.
Bearers were Brian Miller, Kurt Riley, George Wilcox, Jeff Briere, Tom Reed and Marshall Hier.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary conducted a service Wednesday evening, and a wake service was conducted Wednesday at the Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven by the Rev. Krempa.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home.
Mary Grover
BENNINGTON — Mary Grover, 65, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
She was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Bennington, the daughter of Elwood and Verna (Ely) Russell.
She was educated in the Bennington schools.
She married
Bernard Grover Sr. on June 28, 1953, in Bennington.
Mrs. Grover had been employed at the former Polygraphic Co. in North Bennington, Thomson Manufacturing and the Bennington Motel.
Survivors include her husband of Bennington; a son, Bernard Grover Jr. of Bennington; four sisters, Dorothy Plog of Easton, N.Y., Phyllis Cornell and Patricia Lake, both of Bennington, and Nancy West of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Elwood Russell Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Francis Ely.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Burial will take place at a later date.
Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Harry S. Billado Sr.
BELLOWS FALLS — Harry S. “Bill” Billado Sr., 56, died Feb. 6, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.
He was born Sept. 8, 1945, the son of Harry and Annabelle (Pope) Billado, and was raised by his mother and stepfather James Fennessey Sr.
He attended schools in Charlestown and graduated from high school in 1964.
He married
Donna Kennett on Sept. 5, 1990.
Mr. Billado was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Polish American Club and American Legion, both in Bellows Falls.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Harry Billado Jr. of Portsmouth, N.H.; three daughters, Tracy Maynes of Portsmouth, N.H., Hope Grenier of Charlestown, N.H., and Tia Billado of Bellows Falls; a brother, James Fennessey of Bellows Falls; four sisters, Esther French of North Walpole, N.H., Marguerite Nash of Gageville, N.H., Patricia Rumrill of Rockingham and Lois Dow of White River Junction; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Breed; and two brothers, Wilfred and Maurice Billado.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls with the Rev. Kaye Hult officiating.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made on behalf of Mr. Billado’s youngest daughter Tia, in care of the Merchants Bank, 41 Village Square, Bellows Falls, 05101.

Margaret A. Daigneault
BENNINGTON — Margaret A. Daigneault, 81, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington.
She was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Bennington, the daughter of Francis and Rosalie (Durand) O’Toole.
She graduated from the former Bennington High School in 1938.
She married
Clayton Daigneault on Oct. 29, 1938, in Bennington.
Mrs. Daigneault had been employed at EZ Mills and the Bennington Banner, and was the proprietor of the American Coffee Shop in Bennington. She retired from Fairdale Farms.
She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and Court St. Andrew, Catholic Daughters of America.
She enjoyed knitting and reading.
Survivors include her husband of Bennington; five sons, Gary Daigneault of Bennington, Dennis Daigneault of Pittsfield, Mass., James Daigneault of Westfield, Mass., Mark Daigneault of Phoenix, Ariz., and Alan Daigneault of Stillwater, Kan.; two sisters, Anne Winslow and Patricia Adams, both of Bennington; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington with a prayer and continue with a Mass at 9 a.m. in All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home. Burial will take place in Park Lawn cemetery.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The wake service will be offered at 7 p.m.

Sydney A. Izzo
SHARON — Sydney Ann “Sami” Millberry Izzo died Feb. 4, 2002.
She was born in Lakeport, Calif., the daughter of Bob and Betty (Bragdon) Millberry.
She graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in environmental science.
She worked with the Sierra Club and Friends of the River to help save the Stanaslaus River and played a major role in establishing the Ishi National Wilderness Area in California. In Vermont, she worked for VINS, Earthright and the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District. At the time of her death, she was employed by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., as the recycling and waste minimization coordinator.
She loved free-flowing waterways, and was a member of the White River Partnership working on the protection of the White River watershed.
Survivors include her father of Lakeport, Calif.; a daughter, Sierra, a son, Alexander, and their father, David Izzo of Quechee; two sisters, her twin, Nancy Millberry-Davis of Modesto, Calif., and Susan Lange of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two brothers, Patrick Millberry of Tulsa, Okla., and Robert Millberry of Sacramento, Calif.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sharon Congregational Church.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Sharon Academy, the White River Partnership, or a favorite environmental organization or charity.

Norman G. Chase
BETHEL — Norman G. Chase, 80, died Feb. 5, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Lowell, the son of Moses and Rena (Adams) Chase.
He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1941, and attended Franklin Institute in Boston.
He married
Evelyn Barbar in 1947.
Mr. Chase worked on the family farm for a time, and later went to work for the Zygo Co. in Middlefield, Conn., for 24 years. He had also worked for the Killington Ski Area and opened the Chase Inn in Stockbridge, which he operated until selling it in 1998.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific on PT Boats.
He coached Little League and Intermediate Baseball and served as president of the Midget Football League in Middlefield, Conn. He also coached baseball in the Stockbridge and Pittsfield area.
He was an avid golfer and skier, and was active in Civil War re-enactments.
Survivors include his wife of Bethel; two daughters, Linda Jadoga of Stockbridge and Joan Bastura of Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Glenn Chase of Bethel; five brothers, Kenneth Chase of Sharon, Lyle Chase, Dean Chase and Howard Chase, all of North Pomfret, and Ronald Chase of Bellows Falls; four sisters, Florence Rameor of Canaan, N.H., Barbara Gilbert of North Pomfret, Ethelyn Wardwell of New London, N.H., and Kathleen Chase of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bethel with the Rev. Lance Harlow officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph.
Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norman Chase Memorial Ski Fund, a fund established to help children get involved in skiing who may not normally have the opportunity, in care of Killington, 4763 Killington Road, Killington, 05751.

Eugene A. Gamache Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Eugene A. Gamache, 72, who died Feb. 4, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, CSC, associate pastor, as celebrant. The Rev. Maurice Cummings, of the Order of Carmelites, assisted at the Mass. Interment followed in South View cemetery in North Adams, Mass.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.
Pallbearers were Dana Mears, Rick Arthur, Jeff Meehan, Allison Hyte, Adam Myallaked and David Hollister.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Elizabeth B. Ayres
GRANVILLE, N.Y. — Elizabeth Belle Jones Ayres of Granville, New York, went to rest in the arms of Our Lord and Savior Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Windsor, Vermont. She fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Elizabeth was born April 20, 1922, in Panama to Dr. and Mrs. Roy and Coey (Custer) Jones. Elizabeth grew up in Iowa and studied at the University of Iowa. She met James Norton Ayres in 1940 while singing in the choir of Christ’s Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Sharing many other interests besides singing, James and Elizabeth fell in love and were married
September 19, 1942, at Christ’s Church.
Elizabeth was a very accomplished woman with many talents. She was editor-in-chief of the Naval Ordinance Laboratory Oak Leaf newsletter in White Oak, Maryland, as well as the associate editor of Defense Preparedness Magazine in Washington, D.C. She was also head of logistics for Adventure Theater and sang in the Washington Civic Opera. But her most noted talent was her profound gift of poetry and musical lyrics. She was an avid reader and an active patron of all arts. After retiring and moving to Granville, New York, she became a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and the Granville Area Chorus.
Although Elizabeth was never formally published, her works blessed many people, and continue to do so today, and is a source of comfort and joy to her family. It is a connection with her that will never be forgotten.
Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband, James of Granville, New York; her daughters: Susannah Thomas and her husband, Philip, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Janet Aloisio and her husband, Roy, of Windsor, Vermont; Megan Ayres of Crofton, Maryland; Sarah Bloxham and her husband, Larry, of Acton, California; Mary Trimble and her husband, Thomas, of Bowie, Maryland; and her son, Jonathon Ayres and his wife, Donna, of Berwin Heights, Maryland. Elizabeth is also survived by nine grandchildren, Carrie, Katharine, Felicity, Cynthia-Mary and her husband Christopher, Elizabeth, Sarah, Kristen, Bonita and Gian; and one great-grandchild, Adam Robert. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister, Coey Warren and her husband, Francis; and by her brother, Roy R. Jones and his wife Phyllis; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Granville, New York. A reception at the church will follow the service. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations in Elizabeth’s name to their local Hospice Organization or the American Cancer Society.
