Henry L. White
Henry L. “Hank” White, 82, known affectionately by friends as “Stringin’ Hank,” died Feb. 5 2002, at The Arbors in Shelburne.
He was born in Everett, Mass., Aug. 31, 1919, the son of Wellington L. and Katherine (Rourke) White.
He was a U.S. Air Corps veteran.
He was a mechanical engineer for General Electric Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Rutland Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and the Barbershop Quartet.
He enjoyed tennis, skiing and sailing.
Surviving are two sons, Robert B. White of Pittsford and William L. White of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Diane M. Noyes of Burlington; a sister, Doris Durant of Melbourne, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes M. (Coffey) White, who died in 1985; and a brother, Theo White.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call at the Clifford funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

W. Gordon Smith
WELLS, Maine — W. Gordon Smith, 53, died Jan. 21, 2002.
He was born Jan. 14, 1949, in Springfield, Vt., the son of Kingsley and Virginia Smith.
He graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1968 and Windham College in 1972.
Survivors include a son, Troy; a daughter, Courtney; his mother of South Burlington, Vt.; a sister, Cherrill Rowell of Williston, Vt.; and a brother, Kingsley Smith Jr. of Sunapee, N.H.
He was predeceased by his father.
A private interment will take place in the family cemetery in Clarendon, Vt., at the convenience of the family.
Gertrude E. Proctor
The graveside service for Gertrude Ellsworth Proctor, who died Feb. 5, 2002, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Blue Hill cemetery in Braintree, Mass.
The funeral Mass will celebrated today at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Friends may call at the Aldous Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.
Charles L. Castle Rites
The funeral Mass for Charles L. Castle, 81, of Rutland, who died Feb. 2, 2002, was celebrated Wednesday at Christ the King Church in Rutland with the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Calvary cemetery.
Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and vocalist was Sister Frances Patrick.
American Legion Post 31 of Rutland provided military honors. George Zsido presented the flag to the family.
A prayer service was held Tuesday at the Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Mattison.

Elizabeth S. Wheelwright
WESTON — Elizabeth Scudder Wheelwright, 86, a resident of Good Shepherd Home in Jaffrey, N.H., died Feb. 5, 2002.
She was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., the daughter of David and Louisa (Scudder) Wheelwright.
She attended the Child Walker School of Design in Boston and the Casa delle Laureate in Florence, Italy. She earned a bachelor’s degree at the Newton College of the Sacred Heart, converted to the Catholic faith, and became a lay sister of the Carmelite Order.
She made her home in Weston, where she taught art in the public schools.
After her retirement she volunteered at the Senior Centers in Ludlow and later in Peterborough, N.H.
Survivors include a sister, Cornelia Iselin of Nelson, N.H.; a brother, David Wheelwright of Bethesda, Md.; and 14 nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Church in Harrisville, N.H., with the Rev. Thomas L. Duston, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in Ascutney cemetery in Windsor.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jaffrey.
Rosalia B. Gervais
BENNINGTON — Rosalia B. “Rose” Gervais, 87, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Crescent Manor Care Centers.
She was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Richmond, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Antonio and Matilda (Rheaum) Lampron.
She received her education in Eden and Barre.
She married
Jean Gervais on June 29, 1931, in Barre. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Gervais had been employed at Mack Molding Co., the Orvis Inn and Tansitor Electronics.
Survivors include a son, Marcel Gervais of Bennington; three sisters, Antoinette Rousseau of Pelham, N.H., Claudia Barcus of Zepher Hills, Fla., and Claire Douglas of Williamstown, Mass.; two brothers, Raymond Lampron of Bennington and Beltram Lampron of North Adams, Mass.; a grandson; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Lampron, Lucien Lampron and Alyre Lampron; and a sister, Loretta Caron.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer and continue at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. with a Mass. Burial will take place in Park Lawn cemetery.
Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. The wake service will be offered at 6:30 p.m.

Stella F. Hall
BENNINGTON — Stella Florence Hall, 85, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Bennington Health and Rehab.
She was born May 15, 1916, in Bennington, the daughter of John and Hattie (Moore) Reynolds.
She graduated from Bennington High School in 1936.
She married
Wallace Hall on Sept. 3, 1938, in Bennington.
Mrs. Hall had been employed at E-Z Mills in Bennington and served as an Avon representative in the Bennington area for many years.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington and the Grange, and was active with the Girl Scouts.
She enjoyed crafts and camping.
Survivors include a son, Walter Hall of Waterford, N.Y.; a daughter Della Mallory of Bennington; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1992; three brothers, H. Bradly Reynolds, Charles Reynolds and Frederick Reynolds; and a great-grandson.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington with the Rev. Arthur Kingdon, rector, officiating. Interment will follow in Park Lawn cemetery in Bennington.
A time of fellowship will follow the committal service in the social hall of St. Peter’s Church.
Friends may call Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Genevera D. Ward-Banks
WINDSOR — Genevera D. Ward-Banks, 90, died Feb. 4, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Worthing, S.D., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hurley) Devitt.
She received her education in Lenox, S.D., and graduated from Lenox High School in 1929. She attended South Dakota State Teacher’s College in Madison, S.D., and graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1938.
She married
William Ward Jr. on April 26, 1943, in Rome, N.Y. He died in 1979. She married
Edward Banks on July 3, 2001, in Windsor.
She taught school in South Dakota and Iowa for 10 years and was an instructor at Sioux Falls Air Force Training Center. She also taught sixth grade in Wakefield, Mass.
She was a member of St. Florence Catholic Church and the League of Women Voters in Wakefield. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen Center in South Yarmouth, Mass.
She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her husband of Windsor; a son, James Ward of Barre; two daughters, Pamela Brown of Brownsville and Karen Ward of Chicago; five stepsons; a stepdaughter, Linda Johnston of Hartland; five grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, John Ward in 1986; a granddaughter; two brothers, J. Hurley Devitt and Orville Devitt; and a sister, Dolores Gorman.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor with the Rev. Paul N. Belhumer, MS, pastor, officiating.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Calling hours will also be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home in South Yarmouth, Mass. Burial will follow in Ancient cemetery in Yarmouthport, Mass.

Suzanne O. Rogstad
WEATHERSFIELD — Suzanne O. Rogstad, 53, died Feb. 3, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 14, 1949, in Springfield, the daughter of Frederick and Margaret (Thorpe) McCommish.
She graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1967, and later went on to receive a nursing degree from the Gardner (Mass.) School of Nursing.
She married
Ralph Rogstad on July 3, 1972, in Rockingham.
Mrs. Rogstad had been employed as a registered nurse at several area convalescent homes, and later at Springfield Hospital, Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, N.H., and for the past 10 years, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was a former member of the Hawks Mountain and Bartonsville granges.
She was an avid camper.
Survivors include her husband of Weathersfield; a son, Christopher Rogstad of Springfield; a daughter, Erika Rogstad of Weathersfield; a sister, Brenda Slayton of Springfield; and two nieces.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Nelson, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Plain cemetery in Perkinsville.
Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
