PENNY MARIE KIVELA
ST. ALBANS/BURLINGTON - Mrs. Penny Marie Kivela, age 36, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 7, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care following a brief illness. She was born in Burlington Sept. 15, 1965, daughter of the late Gordon and Barbara (Godbout) Remillard.
Penny graduated from Oceanside High School, Oceanside, Calif., and Champlain Business College. She was the supervisor of customer services for the City of Burlington Water Department, where she had worked for the past nine years. She was a member of the Burlington City Employees Union.
Oct. 6, 1986 she married Casey A. Kivela. Besides her husband of St. Albans Bay, she is survived by her children Kallen and Kye Kivela both at home; her step-children Kasia Bergeron, Shawn Kivela, and Cassandra Kivela; her grandmother Josephine Dion of Burlington; sisters, brothers and their spouses Jeanne and Michael Reynolds of Waterville, Kathy and Keith Stevens of Fairfield, Mike Remillard of Bremerton, Wash., Bob and Jen Remillard of Epping, N.H., Mark and Arlene Remillard of Escondido, Calif.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very special friends and coworkers in Burlington.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Brady and Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be made to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, 22100 Gratiot Ave., Eastpointe, East Detroit, Mich., 4821-2227. MAURICE G. LAROCHELLE
Maurice G. LaRochelle, 82 passed away peacefully at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001. His wife of 56 years, Rose Rowe LaRochelle was with him, along with two of their six children, Maureen Estus and Donna LaRochelle-Clark.
Maurice was born Oct. 24, 1919, the son of Arthur and Georgiana (Cota) LaRochelle in Milton.
Maurice was a retired farmer. He and Rose moved into Lake Street Housing 20 years ago. "A good place for poor, old people, " according to Papa. He was the "youngster" then at 62 and received many phone calls from neighbors: open my window, move this please, etc. He enjoyed helping everyone out. He would shovel the drive way and sidewalk until a previous janitor thought Maurice was trying to steal his job; not the case. He stopped shoveling.
Maurice leaves his wife, Rose; daughters Maureen and husband Will Estus of Westford, Claire and husband George Pelkey of Bronson Road, Donna and husband Les Clark of Michigan and Florida, Theresa and Phil Remillard of Georgia Shore; sons Howard and wife Penny of Fairfax, and Kevin and Carol Larochelle. His sister Blanche Bushey is in Stafford Springs, Conn., and brother Wesley LaRochelle lives in St. Albans.
He leaves 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. There were four grandchildren that spent time with Grampa/Papa and knew his love. Robyn Swan and her husband Jon, their daughter Taylor LaRochelle Swan, Serena and Steven LaRochelle, and Theanna LaRochelle Elmer. He will be missed by all his loved ones.
HELEN L. BROUILLETTE
SWANTON/ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Helen L. Brouillette, age 71, daughter of the late Leonel and Marie Antoinette (Desrochers) Languerand and wife of James Brouillette, died peacefully with her family at her side, in the Northwestern Medical Center, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, after a brief illness.
Helen was born in St. Albans Oct. 19, 1930, and married James Brouillette June 6, 1953. She was recently employed by V.E.S.C.O.M. Securities. She owned and managed the successful Kid's Stuff Clothing Store for 12 years and was formerly employed by St. Albans and Kerbs Memorial Hospitals for 14 years and employed at Fonda for two years.
Helen was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and the Ladies of St. Anne. Helen was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #1 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit #758. She was president of the Legion District #1. She was a member of the bingo committee of both units, a member of the Franklin County Historical Society, a volunteer for the Franklin County Museum and for the American Red Cross blood drawings.
She was a former member of the Business and Professional Woman's Club. Helen was a supporter and avid fan of the Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans Comet Basketball and Softball clubs. Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing and providing dinners for her family. She also enjoyed visits to the casinos
Besides her husband of over 48 years, Jim, she is survived by her three daughters, Paula and friend Kurt Eckery, Susan Walsh and her husband Daniel, Mary Ann and her husband Rob Liscinsky; her six grandchildren, Eric Walsh, Hollie Walsh, Jenna Walsh, Dan Brouillette, Brandon Brouillette, and Anthony Liscinsky; a great-grandson Isaac Walsh; her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Carmen and Richard Setlakwe, Evelyn and Jerry Helvey, Rene "Pete" and Dee Dee Languerand, Joseph and Cathy Languerand, Andre and Cecile Languerand, her brother-in-law James Brady; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Marcel and John Languerand and her sisters Denise Languerand and Jeanne Brady.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Brouillette family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602. LENA MAE SENNA
FAIRFAX - Miss. Lena Mae Senna, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday Nov. 7, 2001, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born in Burlington on Oct. 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Raymond W. and Emma (Paige) Senna.
Lena was a line worker at Vermont Republic Industries in St. Albans for 14 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Franklin County Senior Center and enjoyed outdoor activities, television, card playing, and watching and feeding the birds.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Marjorie Senna of Longmont, Colo.; several cousins including Gary Burnett of Colchester; her care givers with whom she lived, Duane and Elaine Preston of Fairfax; her advocate, Kathleen Berard-Brown of Milton; her extended family, Brian Preston and his children, Shannon, Lindsey, and Christopher Preston, and Sara Preston Blake and her children, Eric, Joanna and Stephen Carter; special friends, Barbara Paradee, Tina Cross, and Heather Barrette; the family pet Labrador Retriever, Jasmine; and many other friends at the Senior Center and Vermont Republic Industries. Besides her parents she was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Ronald and Roger Senna; and a dear friend, James Morgan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Pastor Roland Ludlam will officiate. Interment will be at Georgia Plain Cemetery. ALFRED R. SMART
ST. ALBANS - Mr. Alfred R. Smart, age 89, died Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born in St. Albans, Feb. 10, 1912, son of the late Fred and Emma (Langlois) Smart. Alfred lived a full and joyous 89 years.
Alfred served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a life member of the American Legion Post #1, and the Forty and Eight. Following his military service, he worked as a finish carpenter and general contractor in the St. Albans area for many years, semi-retiring in 1980. He also enjoyed electronics, built and repaired radios and was a TV repairman. Alfred enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was proud of the jigsaw cat clock he assembled.
He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and was a former volunteer member of the St. Mary's Church Restoration Committee.
Alfred married Irene C. Scanlon on Jan. 15, 1939. She died Nov. 8, 1982. After 42 years of marriage to her loving husband, they are now reunited in heaven.
Alfred is survived by his special friend and companion, Gloria Thibault; his three children, Sandra Kivela of Burlington, Candyse and her husband Paul Bilodeau of St. Albans, and Larry Smart of Burlington; 10 great-grandchildren, Scott, Kip, and Cynthia, Casey and Penny, Staci, Kristi, and Brian, Cory and Kristen, Kasia and Leon, Heather and Jamie, Tara and Paul, and Tori; 19 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; Gloria's family Marie and Andrew Bessette and Jeanne Thibault and their five children; a sister Elda Berthiaume of Ware, Mass.; sisters-in-law Gladys Barrett of Sandy Point, Me., and Annette Smart of Ware, Mass.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, and wife, he was predeceased by five brothers Richard, Kenneth, Ernest, Isadore, and Leon; and two sisters, Hazel Sheehan and Doris Smart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. from 2 - 4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. STEVEN M. CHABOT
ST. ALBANS/HENRIETTA, N.Y. - Mr. Steven M. Chabot, age 39, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, in Henrietta. He was born in St. Albans Aug. 19, 1962, son of Paul Chabot and the late Rita (Caron) Chabot.
Steve graduated from Bellows Free Academy in the Class of 1980 and was employed by the State of New York Social Services and was affiliated with the Harris Poll office in Rochester, N.Y. Steve enjoyed collecting walking sticks and stuffed polar bears.
Steve is survived by his father, Paul, and step-mother, Carmen (L'Ecuyer) Chabot, of St. Albans; five siblings and their spouses Diane and Patrick McCormick of East Montpelier, Suzanne Chabot of St. Albans, Mark and Nancy Chabot of Charlotteville, Va., Diane and Joseph LaRochelle of Valencia, Calf., Richard and Joni Seguin of Butler, Pa.; a special friend Alan Branden of No. Augusta, S.C., five nieces a nephews, Erin and Kristin McCormick, Matthew and Nichole LaRochelle and Lee Sequin; several aunts and uncles. Besides his mother, Rita, in 1968, he was predeceased by all his grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy, pastor, concelebrated the Mass with a longtime family friend Father Raymond Giroux. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Fabio Choiniere. The reader for the scripture lessons and prayers of intercession was Steve's uncle Joseph Auclair. Claire Hungerford, a classmate of Steve's, was the organist and soloist. Bearers were his sisters Diane and Suzanne, brother Mark, godfather and uncle Louis Chabot, niece Erin McCormick and cousin Pierre LaPointe.
Among the large attendance were representatives of the BFA Class of 1980, Holy Angels Eucharistic Ministers, Ladies of St. Anne, Knights of Columbus, Business and Professional Woman's Club, Champlain Country Club, Northwest Supervisory School Department, Fonda Group, Union Local 1-345, Office Quarters, Law offices of Bruce and Brooks and Timothy Hawkins, Peoples Trust Bank, Franklin-Lamoille Bank and all the members of "The Gang"

Interment will be private in the family lot, with his mother, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Sunday afternoon Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with Steve's family in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
DAVID WAYNE MITCHELL
ENOSBURG - David Wayne Mitchell, 49, a resident of the Boston Post Road in Enosburg died late Saturday evening, Nov. 3, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington from injuries he received in an automobile accident earlier in the day.
He was born in Troy, N.Y., Dec. 30, 1951, the son of William J. and Lois (Ayers) Mitchell. He attended schools in Waterford, N.Y., and was married to the former Deborah J. Mitchell, who survives him.
He worked many years as an auto mechanic for Maplewood Auto Body in Maplewood, N.Y. and most recently for the Nutrite Corporation in Sheldon.
A Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict he served his country in the United States Army serving in the Army's Military Honor Guard at Fort Eustis, Va. He received several medals and badges including the National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (M-16 Rifle) and the Expert Badge (Hand Grenade). He received his Honorable Discharge on Dec. 11, 1973. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Brady Post 235, Waterford, N.Y.
In addition to his wife, Deborah Mitchell of Enosburg, he also leaves his mother, Lois of Waterford, N.Y.; four children, David W. Mitchell Jr., of Waterford, N.Y., Michelle Mitchell of New Jersey, Wayne "Steve" Mitchell of Lake George, N.Y., and David Michael Mitchell of New York; three stepchildren, Misty Yerry and her husband Rob of Troy, N.Y. and Debora McDade of Troy, N.Y. and Joe McDade and his fiancé Carrie of Highgate, Vt.; four sisters, Lois Fisk and her husband John of Troy, N.Y., Linda Coons and her husband William of Ausable Forks, N.Y., Bonnie Forgett of Waterford, N.Y. and Catherine Rana and her husband Amardeep of Glenville, N.Y.; six brothers, James Mitchell and his wife Raema of Mechanicville, N.Y., William Mitchell and his wife Mandy of Glennville, N.Y., John MacWinnie of Waterford, N.Y., Vincent DelGuidice and his wife Debbie of Troy, N.Y., Michael DelGuidice and his wife Fran of Mechanicville, N.Y., and Albert "Joe" DelGuidice and his wife Laurie of Waterford, N.Y.. Also surviving are six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, William J. Mitchell and his stepfather, Albert DelGuidice
For reasons of space, a Funeral Eucharist will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. The Reverend Marsha Hoecker, rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton, Vermont will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. THERESA MARIAN CHEVALIER
WEST SWANTON - Theresa Marian Chevalier passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at her home in West Swanton, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Theresa was born in Swanton, Sept. 25, 1922, the daughter of the late Louis and Anna Campono. She was a lifelong resident of Swanton and graduated from St. Anne's Academy with the Class of 1941 and enrolled in the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing with affiliation at Boston City Hospital. After graduation Theresa attended Yale School of Nursing to study procedures in proficiency in nursing, this training achieved her supervisory position at the St. Albans Hospital. In 1949 she accepted a position as Head of Nursing Personnel at Hardwick Hospital. She later returned to St. Albans Hospital and resumed her supervisor duties until her retirement from her lifelong career and devotion to nursing.
In 1966, she was married to Leonard Chevalier and assisted him in the operation of their business until retiring in 1978.
Theresa is survived by her only son, Joseph, and her granddaughter, Megan, the pride and joy of her life. Nancy and her sons David and Daniel.
She also leaves one brother, Armond, and his wife Pricilla Campono of Swanton; and three sisters, Cecilia and James Richard of Swanton, Lorraine and her husband David Sinclair of Northfield, N.H., Annette and her husband Fred Lewis of Penacook, N.H., and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves a very special friend, Pauline Yatsevich of West Swanton.
Theresa's family wishes to thank the Franklin County Home Health Home Health Agency and Hospice personnel for all the love, care and support they gave to Theresa during her final days.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, in June 2001, her parents, Louis and Anna Campono, three brothers, Laurence, Raymond and Clement Campono.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton.
