Joanne Gokey rites
The funeral service for Joanne “Jennie” Gokey, 85, of Rutland and former resident of Brandon, who died Jan. 5, 2002, was held Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland with the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
Organist was James Cassarino and vocalist was Helen Davidson.
Reader was James Davidson.
Bearers were Richard Abel of Rutland, a nephew, Scott Curtis of Mount Tabor, a grandson, David Diehl of Freedom, Pa., a son-in-law, Ken Curtis of Pittsford, Carl Ackley and Thomas Kiniry of Meriden, Conn.
A prayer service was held Monday at the Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Houle.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Charles R. Jay rites
EAST POULTNEY — The funeral service for Charles Rollin Jay, 73, who died Jan. 4, 2002, was held Tuesday at the United Baptist Church of Poultney with the Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Wells Village Cemetery.
Organist was Ellen Hogan, and special music was played by Velma and Phyllis Reed.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.
Arnold J. Norton Sr.
LUDLOW — Arnold Jay Norton Sr., 67, died Jan. 6, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born June 21, 1934, in Cavendish, the son of Bernard and Eleanor (Duval) Norton.
He attended schools in Cavendish and Chester and Wheeler’s School.
He married Viola Quinn on March 13, 1954, in Bellows Falls.
Mr. Norton was employed as a truck driver and logger.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was also a member of the National Guard.
He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Eastern Draft Horse Organization.
Mr. Norton enjoyed pulling his ponies, hunting and country music.
Survivors include his wife of Ludlow; two sons, Arnold Norton Jr. of Proctorsville and Gary Norton of Mount Holly; three daughters, Ellie Ellison of Ludlow, Candy Davis of North Springfield and Shirley Carver of Tennessee; a sister, Carol Blaise of Proctorsville; a half sister, Charmine Biggood of Charlestown, N.H.; two brothers, John Norton of Tyson and Jack Norton of North Carolina; two half brothers, Everitt Norton of Ludlow and Dennis Norton of Claremont, N.H.; a stepbrother, John Wheeler; a stepsister, Shirley Billings; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at St. James Methodist Church in Proctorsville with the Rev. James Nap, pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Alma M. Andosca
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — Alma M. Andosca, 87, died Jan. 5, 2002, at Brigham Manor in Newburyport.
She was born Dec. 15, 1914, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Ernest and Leona (Robie) Baraby.
She graduated from Bellows Falls (Vt.) High School.
She was the co-owner of a shoe store, “The Shoe Tree,” in Newport, N.H., and had also worked for the Sylvania Corp. in Hillsborough, N.H.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Bellows Falls Alumni Association and the Newport (N.H.) Bowling League.
She enjoyed knitting, bowling and researching her family’s lineage.
Survivors include three daughters, Judith Niemi of Penacook, N.H., Donna Ralmondi of Amesbury and Patricia Waterman Sagner of Portsmouth, N.H.; a son, Michael Andosca of Webster, N.H.; a sister, Eleanor Little of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Hortense Kelly; and a brother, Gerald Baraby.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brigham Manor Deck Fund, 77 High St., Newburyport, 01950.
Frederick W. Richardson
SPRINGFIELD — The memorial service for Frederick W. Richardson, 77, who died Jan. 7, 2002, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Congre-gational Church in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church or the Springfield Arts and Historical Society.
Carrie M. Warren
CHESTER — Carrie Mae Johnson Warren, 78, died Jan. 7, 2002, at home after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Caruthersville, Mo., the daughter of Ida Mae (Collins) and Charles Johnson.
She married Richard Warren on Aug. 8, 1945, in Caruthersville, and they moved to Vermont in 1952.
Mrs. Warren operated a greenhouse with Carolyn Bierlie in the 1970s, and later she and her husband were custodians at the Vermont National Bank for 40 years.
She was a member of the Hope Rebekah Lodge 32, the Chester Congregational Church and American Legion Auxiliary 67.
She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Janet Currier and Edie Cole, both of Chester; two sisters, Eunice Hill and Margaret Shaeffer, both of Caruthersville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester. The graveside service will be held at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Clara J. Prideaux rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Clara J. Prideaux, who died Jan. 4, 2002, was held Tuesday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with a nephew, the Rev. Julian LaFlamme, pastor of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Manchester, and the Rev. John A. Riley, pastor of St. George’s Church in Pittstown, N.Y., officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.
Bearers were James Wright, John Wright, Gregory Cleveland, George Berard, Frank Berard and David Berard. Honorary bearers from St. Anne’s Society were: Alda Cole, Doris Boutin, Madeline Fitzgerald, Theresa Aglieri, Betty Marcoux and Marie Ray.
A prayer service preceded the funeral Mass at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
A remembrance gathering for friends and family was held at the parish center following the committal service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Robert J. Buckley rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Robert J. Buckley, who died Jan. 1, 2002, was celebrated Saturday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.
Full military honors were provided. Mr. Buckley’s granddaughter, Polly Yukevich, sounded taps. The flag was presented to Mr. Buckley’s wife, Polly.
Bearers were sons Peter, John, Brian, Mark, Chris and Paul Buckley.
A reception was held at the Mount Anthony Country Club following the service.

Ella R. Kennedy rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Ella R. Kennedy, who died Jan. 1, 2002, was held Monday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Bearers were Alex Manglass, Nicholas Garlan, Jeff Morin and Leonard Morin.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Dean T. Mertrude rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Dean Thomas Mertrude, who died Jan. 2, 2002, was held Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Robert W. Lozinski, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Organist was Randall Krum and soloist was Monica Murray. Guitarist was Thomas Brown.
American Legion Post 13 provided military honors. Joseph Krawczyk and Donald Tetreault presented the flag to Mr. Mertrude’s former wife, Diana Mertrude. Maurice Rancourt sounded taps.
Bearers were Duncan Turner, Robert Barnhardt, Brian Lent, Dennis Galusha, Harold Stanley and Thomas Ryan.
The wake service was offered Sunday by the Rev. Lozinski. Members of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 also conducted services at the funeral home.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Anita St. Peter rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Anita St. Peter, who died Jan. 3, 2002, was celebrated Monday at All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home with the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, chaplain, officiating. Burial followed in White Chapel Cemetery.
Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray.
Bearers were Dennis Bisson, Louis Bisson , Roy Beardsley, Ted Church, Gary Church and Nathan Church.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Donna M. Williams
Donna Marie Williams, 52, of Rutland died from cancer Jan. 14, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Wallingford, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Balestra) Blanchard.
She attended schools in Wallingford and graduated from Wallingford High School in 1967.
She married Douglas Williams on March 2, 1968, in Wallingford.
Mrs. Williams was employed with her husband as the owners/operators of the Tweed River Tavern in Pittsfield prior to the opening of Kicks Tavern and Restaurant in Mendon.
She was an active participant of the Vermont Foster Parent Association, sponsoring more than 135 children into her home, and in 1986, she received the Vermont Award and National Award for Foster Parent of the Year for her continued dedication to the Foster Parent Program. She was a member and past officer of the Rutland County Foster Parent Association and member of the Vermont and National Foster Parents associations.
She enjoyed cooking, bingo and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Kari Williams and May Lynn Williams, both of Rutland, and Geryl Williams of Mendon; three sons, Daniel Williams and Jay Williams, both of Rutland, and Mark Williams of West Rutland; her mother of Wallingford; two sisters, Charmaine Blanchard of Wallingford and Carla Flanders of San Bernardino, Calif.; a brother, Joseph Blanchard of Wallingford; nine grandchildren; many foster children and grand- foster children; and nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Center, RRMC, 160 Allen St., Rutland, 05701.
