Mayellen Noyes
BENNINGTON — Mayellen Shattuck Noyes, 76, a well-known local artist and craftswoman, died Dec. 29, 2001, at home after a long illness.
She was born in Newburyport, Mass., on Aug. 18, 1925, daughter of James H. Shattuck and Beatrice C. Perry. She graduated from Newburyport High School in 1944.
She married Philip B. Noyes of Newburyport on Nov. 18, 1950. The couple moved to Bennington in 1957, when Mr. Noyes went to work for the Henry M. Tuttle Co.
During the 1950s and 1960s, her love of drawing and creating art took form in water paintings for children, knit sweaters, and helping local Girl Scouts to earn merit badges in the arts.
Mrs. Noyes was also employed as a clerk at the E. L. Nichols department store from 1963 to 1979.
She began painting New England scenes and miniatures in oils during the 1970s. For many years her work hung in the Corridor Gallery at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, and sold in the gift shop. Mrs. Noyes also volunteered hundreds of hours at the hospital during this time. Her oil paintings graced the Bennington Museum Gift Shop, where she also worked as a museum volunteer for a number of years.
In 1977, Mrs. Noyes sculpted an illustration of the “Old First” Congregational Church for Bennington Rotary Club’s Bicentennial commemorative medal, struck to honor the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington.
She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington.
Her husband, Philip Noyes, died in 1999.
Survivors are three daughters, Catherine Boutin of Clearwater, Fla., Deborah Dawson of Raymond, N.H., and Margaret Elizabeth Noyes of Bennington; a sister, Jean C. Wilson of Byfield, Mass.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. A sister, Marguita Rogers of Newbury, Mass., died in 1999.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Second Congregational Church with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held in the Newburyport area in the summer.

Pauline M. E. Shackett
WEYBRIDGE — Pauline Marie Elise Shackett died Dec. 30, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
She was born July 4, 1919, in Canada, the daughter of Wilfred and Marie (Faubert) Laframboise, and moved to Vermont as a toddler. She attended school in Bridport.
She married George Henry Shackett on May 29, 1938.
Mrs. Shackett was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury.
She was a seamstress at Van Raalte in Middlebury for more than 30 years. Upon retirement, she continued to sew articles and crafts for others. Her quilts covered beds of her family, friends and many others.
Due to declining health she moved from Weybridge to Jericho to live with her family in February 2001.
Survivors are a daughter, Barbara Broughton of Jericho; a granddaughter; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Lucien Laframboise; five sisters, Aline LaFountain of Bridport, Claire Hallock of Rutland, Cecile Gevry and Noella Dubois, both of Addison, and Marcelle Bolduc of New Haven; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1988, and a brother, Guy Laframboise, in 1979.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury. Burial will be at a later date.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers consideration be given to an individual’s local rescue squad, food shelf or the United Way.
Pasquale O. Trapeni
Pasquale O. Trapeni, 81, of Rutland died Jan. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Dominic and Palma (Pratico) Trapeni.
Mr. Trapeni worked for Howe Richardson Scale Co. for more than 35 years, retiring in 1982. He also worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Italian Aid Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars 648 of Rutland.
Mr. Trapeni was an avid baseball fan and attended a baseball school in Orlando, Fla.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Arlene (Rawson) Trapeni of Rutland; three daughters, Patricia Kimball of Ludlow, Nadine Fredette of Forest Dale and Deborah Trapeni of Richmond Hills, N.Y.; three sons, Domenic Trapeni, Jerome Trapeni and John Trapeni, all of Rutland; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Trapeni, James Trapeni and Joseph Trapeni, all of Rutland; a sister, Catherine Sienicki of Proctor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lizabeth Trapeni, in 1976; and two sisters, Joyce Cook and Palma Phalen.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tossing Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Mattison, assistant pastor at Christ the King Church, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
A reception will be held Saturday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Italian Aid Society for friends and family to get together to remember Mr. Trapeni.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
Charles A. Reardon
Charles A. Reardon, 74, died Jan. 4, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was bron Sept. 14, 1927, in Rutland, the son of James and Alice (McCarthy) Reardon.
He graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy.
Mr. Reardon was employed by the Vermont Marble Co. and later by the Rutland Railroad Co. in the payroll department.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Reardon attended St. Peter’s Church.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Reardon of Rutland; a close friend, Alice Miller of Rutland; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James Reardon and Richard Reardon.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. A private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Gabriella L. Politano Infant
BRANDON — Gabriella Louise Politano, born December 14, 2001, died peacefully at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, in the arms of her parents on January 3, 2002.
Living her entire life in the intensive care nursery after her premature birth, she brought joy and love to the hearts of those who surrounded her during her brief, courageous battle.
She is survived by her parents, Paul and Erika Politano of Brandon, Vt.; her twin brother, Owen; grandparents, Tom Politano of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Karl and Diane Neuse of Middlebury, Vt.; aunts, Susan LaRosa of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Kirsten Hano of Wellesley, Mass.; an uncle, Tom Politano of Malta, N.Y.; several cousins, great-grandmothers, and great-aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Middlebury, Vt., on Sunday, January 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Frederick E. Bitting
FAIR HAVEN — Frederick E. Bitting, 91, died Jan. 3, 2002, at Misty Heather Morn Community Care Home in Hydeville.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
Friends may call Friday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fair Haven Concerned, Washington Street, Fair Haven, 05743, the Fair Haven United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Joshua M. Christie
BANGOR, Maine — Joshua Mark Christie, 26, of Bangor, died Tuesday morning, January 1, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Berlin, Vermont on August 20, 1976, the son of Mark A. and Sharon A. (Boyce) Christie.
Joshua was raised in Rutland, attended Rutland schools and graduated from Rutland High School in 1994. He was active in sports, playing on the soccer and basketball teams. He was also a member of Boy’s State.
He was a member of the original exchange team with Ishyadoria, Japan in 1992 and revisited Ishyadoria in September of 2001 as part of the tenth reunion celebration.
Joshua attended University of Vermont graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 1998. Following graduation he was awarded by the university a fellowship award for master’s degree work in the field of Bio Medical Technology. He completed and received his master’s degree in 2000.
He was an avid body builder, and was a member of the Rutland Spa and the Rutland Gymnasium.
He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a member of the St. Andrew’s Society of Vermont.
For the past year, he has resided in Bangor, Maine, and has been employed as a pharmaceutical representative for Upjohn, a division of Pharmacia Corp.
Survivors include his parents, his sister, Sarah Christie, his grandmother, Patricia Dwinell, and his nephew, Joshua Pendleton, all of Rutland, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 18 Lincoln Ave., Rutland.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 N. Main Street, Rutland.

Stanley J. Luncz Sr.
Stanley J. Luncz Sr., 86, of Rutland, died Friday morning, January 4, 2002, at the Genesis Elder Care Facility following a brief illness.
He was born in West Rutland, November 11, 1915, the son of John and Sophie (Gyrdak) Luncz.
Mr. Luncz was raised in West Rutland, attended local schools, moved to Ludlow and relocated to Rutland in 1952.
He was a member of Christ the King Church and employed by the Vermont Marble Company 40 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Juncz was an outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sons, David J. Luncz Sr. of Rutland, Stanley J. Luncz Jr., and a granddaughter, Patricia Luncz, both of Vergennes, a grandson, David J. Luncz Jr. of Rutland, two sisters, Mary Fabian and Felicia Burns of West Rutland and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen F. Niebrydowski Luncz in 1977, a sister, Agnes Swierzewski , and brothers, Joseph and Edward Lacz.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Christ the King Church, private burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

Russell L. Strong
BENSON — Russell Ladd Strong, 86, died Jan. 4, 2002, at Helen Porter Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
He was born June 30, 1915, the son of Dana and Anna (Ladd) Strong.
He married Rhea Charron in October of 1938.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
