Virginia F. Moriarty
Virginia F. Moriarty, 84, died Dec. 31, 2001, at Mountain View Genesis Center in Rutland.
She was wife of Clayton Moriarty, who died in 1972.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Robert W. Murray
Robert W. Murray, 83, died Dec. 29, 2001, in Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Wallingford, the son of Albert Dean and Nora (Lockyear) Murray.
Mr. Murray was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post #31. He was also a member of the Marian Association of Marian Helpers.
Survivors are a granddaughter, Jessica Hurlbut of Youngsville, N.C.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Tossing Funeral Home. The Rev. James McShane, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Margaret Cioffredi
Margaret “Peg” Cioffredi, 72, died Dec. 27, 2001, at Mount Ascutney Nursing Home in Windsor.
She was born in Cortland, N.Y., on May 22, 1929, daughter of Elijah and Margaret (Henning) Nichols, and was a graduate of the College of St. Joseph in Rutland.
Mrs. Cioffredi was a freelance writer and also had taught at the Open Door Mission.
Survivors include her husband, John Cioffredi of Rutland; two daughters, Theresa Cioffredi of White River, and Michelle Cioffredi of Rutland; two sons, William Cioffredi and John Cioffredi Jr., both of Lebanon, N.H.; three sisters, Mary Bowers of Roanoke, Va., Ann Rongo and Shirley Calabro, both of Cortland; a brother, Edward Nichols of Killawog, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Mission, 31 Park St., Rutland 0501.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Christopher B. Baril Rites
The funeral service for Christopher B. Baril, 56, who died Dec. 24, 2001, was held Thursday at Rutland United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Edward A. Hackett Jr., pastor.
Organist was Ellen Wakker.
Bearers were Paul Burkhardt, Barry Austin, Peter Hall, the Rev. Hackett, John Readnour, Walter Kelly and Jean-Claude Charbonneau.
Burial was held Friday in Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, N.Y., by the Rev. Thomas Ogonholtz, pastor of Harrison Presbyterian Church in Harrison, N.Y.

Francis M. Bixby
LUDLOW — Francis M. Bixby, 77, a lifelong Ludlow resident, died at his home on Dec. 30, 2001, after a long illness.
He was born in Ludlow, the son of Frank L. and Helena (Farrar) Bixby on May 15, 1924.
He married Constance Howard on Sept. 26, 1943, in Ludlow.
Mr. Bixby was raised and educated in Ludlow and attended Black River High School. He later worked on his family’s farm, Bixby’s Dairy.
He held many positions in the town of Ludlow, was chief of police, head of the department of health, and manager of the waste water treatment facility.
He was a 50-plus year member of Black River Lafayette Lodge, F&AM, a 50-year member of the OES and a member of Keystone Chapter #5. He was a longtime member of the Ludlow Baptist Church, and a member of the Vermont Philatelic Society.
Mr. Bixby was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed his model trains, hunting, fishing and flying.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Constance Bixby; a daughter, Sandra Merrill; a brother, Milton J. Bixby, all of Ludlow; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services are private.
The Adams and Kenney Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.
Gayle E. Boucher
ROCKINGHAM — Gayle Ellen (Walroth) Boucher, 57, of Saxtons River Road died at her home on Dec. 29, 2001.
She was born Dec. 9, 1944, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Fredrick and Mildred (Olds) Walroth, who predeceased her. She was a 1964 graduate of Proctor High School in Utica.
She worked in various nursing homes as a certified nurses’ assistant and for Vermont Nurses Alliance for a number of years.
She enjoyed her flower gardens and arts and crafts, which she shared with her patients, friends and relatives.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Francis Boucher; a sister, Dawn DiCicco of Clinton, N.Y.; a brother, Douglas Walroth of Antwerp, N.Y.; two sons from her previous marriage, Ray Miller of Hanover, Mass., and Robin Miller of Weare, N.H.; four stepdaughters, Cathy Boucher of Alstead, N.Y., Cheri Carlson of East Ryegate, Colleen Strout of Bath, N.H., and Carla LaClair of Springfield; a stepson, Bryan Weatherby of North Walpole, N.H.; 15 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Brian Mead on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls.
Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Westminster.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Cancer Society or to the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home to help defray expenses.
Rose P. O’Ryan
SPRINGFIELD — Rose Powers O’Ryan, 55, died Dec. 31, 2001, at Springfield Hospital.
She was born Jan. 11, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Walton and Betty (Powers) Smith. She received her education in Garden City, N.Y.
She graduated from the Convent of Sacred Heart High School in Greenwich, Conn., attended Trinity College in Washington for two years, and received a masters in social work from Louisiana State University.
She lived in the New Orleans area for 20 years, and was employed there as a social worker. More recently, she was a freelance writer.
For several years she resided in Rutland and recently made her home in Springfield.
She enjoyed music and writing.
Survivors are her mother, Betty S. O’Donnell of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, James W. Smith of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Kathleen Johnson of Sarasota, Fla., and Nan Runde of Rochester, N.Y.; and three nieces.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield. The Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date on Long Island, N.Y.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel.
Helen B. Hubbell
MANCHESTER CENTER — A memorial service for Helen Bulkley Hubbell will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church.

Blanche A. Jarvis
BRAINTREE — Blanche A. Jarvis, 104, died Dec. 31, 2001, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born in Randolph, May 7, 1897, the daughter of George and Melissa (Tyler) Carpenter ,and educated in Braintree and Randolph schools.
She married Thomas A. Jarvis in 1914, and they operated a farm in Braintree until his death on Jan. 18, 1974. Mrs. Jarvis continued to operate the farm until 1993.
She was a member of Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Church. For several years she was a correspondent for The Herald, reporting the East Braintree news.
Mrs. Jarvis enjoyed flowers, music, and watching television, especially Lawrence Welk, “The Price is Right,” the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and golf.
She also wrote a song, “America Our Own.”
Survivors are two sons, Bernard Jarvis and Alfred Jarvis, both of Braintree; four daughters, June Northrup of Claremont, N.H., and Sybil Cooper of Honeyvine, Utah, Sylvia Concannon and Shirley Dumont, both of Braintree; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Stanford Jarvis, and two daughters, Ann Aruzza and Arlene Jarvis.
The funeral will be held at Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Milanese officiating. Burial will be at a later date in East Braintree Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held at Day Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Deborah A. Benson
STOCKBRIDGE — Deborah Ann Benson, 45, died Dec. 29, 2001, in Groton.
Arrangements are pending from the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Hilda A. Therrien
CLAREMONT, N.H. — Hilda Anne Therrien, 61, died Dec. 29, 2001, at her home in Hernando, Fla., after a short illness.
She was born in Bridgewater, Vt., March 29, 1940, daughter of Eldred and Evie (Duluca) Stevens.
Before moving to Florida in 1988 she taught at the Teddy Bear Nursery School and was a member of the Claremont Garden Center.
Survivors are her husband of 45 years, Gordon B. Therrien of Hernando; two sons, Gordon W. Therrien of Claremont, and Joseph G. Therrien of Springfield, Vt.; a daughter, Tammy A. Therrien of Hernando; two brothers, Wayne Stevens of Bridgewater, and James Stevens of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Shirley Rizzo of Windsor, Vt., Ruby Anderson of Springfield, Judy Bouque and Carol Stevens, both of Claremont; a grandson; a granddaughter; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Joyce L. Baldwin.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Hooper Funeral Homes and Crematory in Inverness, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Vincent E. Bushee
MANCHESTER CENTER — Vincent Eugene Bushee, 78, a life-long resident of Manchester Center, died Dec. 31, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness.
Services are pending at the Brewster Funeral Service and will be announced in a later edition.
Josephine Bertone Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Josephine “Jessica” Bertone, who died Dec. 28, 2001, at her home, was held Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and celebrated by the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor.
Organist was Randall Krum. Soloist was Monica Murray.
The funeral pall was placed on Mrs. Bertone’s casket by her children, Arlene Bertone and Maureen Fleisch. A wooden cross was than placed on the casket by her husband, Anthony Bertone.
Scriptural readings were offered by Leonard Anzivino.
Bearers were a son-in-law, Arthur Fleisch; a grandson, Robert Pizanie; Scott Moulton, Vito Paladino, Dan Washington and Dan Hall.
