Shirley A. Ingalls
SPRINGFIELD — Shirley A. Ingalls, 75, died Nov. 12, 2001, in Venice, Fla.
She was born May 8, 1926, in Brattleboro, the daughter of Arthur and Marjorie (Wheeler) Ingalls.
She received her education in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School.
She was employed by the Vermont State Police as a dispatcher for many years, retiring in 1981. After her retirement, she moved to Venice.
Survivors include a brother, Arthur Ingalls of Elverson, Pa.
Ethel D. Labrecque
SPRINGFIELD — Ethel D. Labrecque, 95, died Dec. 26, 2001, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 25, 1906, in Charlotte, the daughter of John and Clara (Steadman) Carl.
She received her education in the Charlotte area.
She was married to Robert Davis, who died in 1954. She was later married to George Labrecque, who died in 1989.
Mrs. Labrecque was employed by Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for a time and later by the Vermont Foundry Co. in Springfield.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Columbia Rebekah Lodge 21 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as noble grand for two terms.
Survivors include a son, Robert Davis of Ranger, Texas; caregiver, Betty Farnsworth of North Springfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Donald Davis and Richard Davis; a brother, E. Avery Carl; and two sisters, her twin Edith and Helen Bissell.
The graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center, 105 Chester Road, Springfield, 05156.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
Robert Clark
SPRINGFIELD — Robert Clark, 57, died Dec. 25, 2001, at Springfield Hospital.
He was born July 19, 1944, the son of Francis and Robertine (Fawcett) Clark.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School, joined the U.S. Army and served three tours in Vietnam. He was also a member of the National Guard for 20 years.
Mr. Clark married Cui Ping on Dec. 27, 1991, in China.
He worked as a quality control engineer for Bryant Grinder.
He was a member of the Springfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Bellows Falls; a son, Robert “Joe” Clark of North Walpole, N.H.; a stepson, Andrew Han; a daughter, Wendy Wentz of Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Albert Clark of West Haven, Conn.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls with the Rev. Brian Mead officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

Edward A. Underhill
BELLOWS FALLS — Edward Alanson Underhill, 89, died Dec. 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1912, the son of Harry and Florence (Young) Underhill.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School, attended Vermont Airways School of Aviation and earned his commercial pilot’s license. He also attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, where he specialized in machine construction and tool design.
Mr. Underhill married Lucinda Rix Crandall on Aug. 29, 1934, in Berlin.
He had worked at service stations and as a self-employed salesman during the Depression years, He also worked for Fellows Gear Shaper Co. in Springfield in assembly inspection and machine design for 29 years, and retired as a self-employed photographer in 1976.
He was a member of the United Church of Bellows Falls.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
The graveside committal and burial will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Bellows Falls with the Rev. Kay Hults officiating. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the United Church in Bellows Falls.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.
William Allen
WALPOLE, N.H. — William Allen, 87, died Dec. 27, 2001.
He was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Swampscott, Mass., the son of Louise and Herbert Allen.
He attended schools in Westminster, Vt., and Bellows Falls, Vt.
Mr. Allen worked as a painting contractor for more than 45 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Genevieve.
A private graveside service will be held in New Walpole Cemetery in Walpole at the convenience of the family.

Arthur M. Over
DORSET — Arthur M. Over, 81, died Dec. 27, 2001, after a lingering illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Pittsburgh.
He graduated from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh in 1939 and in 1944 from Lehigh University, where he was a member of Delta Phi Fraternity.
Mr. Over retired from Rust Engineering Co. of Pittsburgh, becoming its vice president. He then moved to southern Vermont, where he and his wife founded Over & Over Home Construction Co. in the Stratton area.
During World War II he served with an Engineer Base Group in Europe as well as with the occupation forces in Japan, rising to the rank of captain.
He served as a justice of the peace and chairman of the school board, and supervised the construction of the road linking the town of Stratton with the Stratton Mountain ski resort.
Mr. Over was a member of the Ekwanok Country Club.
He was an avid sportsman, holding goal-scoring records on Lehigh’s varsity soccer team and becoming a golfer when he moved to Vermont.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Rowley) Over; his children and stepchildren, Mead Over of Washington, D.C., Dercum Over of Barstow, Calif., Ted Over of Redmond, Wash., Marny Krause of Bennington, John and Edward Morris of Pittsburgh; and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dorset Nursing Association or Manchester Rescue Squad, through the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Robert Brock
EAST DORSET — Robert Brock, 92, died Dec. 27, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.
Bette J. Jewett Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Bette J. Jewett, 54, who died Dec. 22, 2001, was held Wednesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Ty Campbell officiating. Burial took place Thursday in Woodford Cemetery.
Words of reflection were offered by the Rev. Campbell.
Administration and staff of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, Bennington Rescue Squad and Southwestern Vermont Regional Ambulance attended the services and calling hours at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Elsie C. Lyon Rites
MANCHESTER CENTER — The prayer service for Elsie Clara Lyon, 81, who died Dec. 24, 2001, was held Thursday at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Paul the Apostle Church with the Rev. Julian LaFlamme, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village.
Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray.
Scriptural readings were given by Deacon Kenneth Linihan.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jim Lyon, John Lyon, Bob Lyon and Todd Solari.
The rosary was offered Wednesday during visitation at the funeral home by the Rev. LaFlamme.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service.
Margaret A. Cook Rites
MANCHESTER CENTER — The funeral service for Margaret Ann Cook, 81, who died Dec. 23, 2001, was held Thursday at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center with the Rev. Jordan Dickinson of the Manchester Congregational Church officiating. Burial followed in Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester Center.
Tributes and remembrances were offered by the Rev. Dickinson.
Pallbearers were staff of the Brewster Funeral Service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service.
Dorothy H. Manning
BRIDPORT — The memorial service for Dorothy Helen Manning, 91, who died Dec. 27, 2001, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Bridport Congregational Church with the Rev. Tim Franklin, pastor, officiating. The graveside committal service and burial will take place in Connecticut at the convenience of the family.
Ethel E. Briggs
Ethel E. Briggs, 92, of Rutland died Dec. 29, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1909, in Rutland, the daughter of John F. and Ethel (Sharp) Eddy.
She graduated from Castleton Normal School in 1929 and started her career as an educator at Meadowbrook Rural School. She then went on to teach at Mill Village and Dyer schools in Rutland Town and at schools in Clarendon. After teaching school for 30 years, she retired in 1978 following 14 years of service in Wallingford.
She did volunteer work at Pleasant Manor in Rutland, helping in the recreational program.
Mrs. Briggs was a member of Mount Carmel Community Church in Chittenden.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Judith Coker of Norman, Okla., and Mrs. Carol Tracy of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a son, Stephen Briggs of Chittenden; two sisters, Susan Buck of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Jean Duff of Cape Coral, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward C. Briggs; two sisters, Ruth Cunliffe of Andover, Mass., and Alice Spafford of North Clarendon; and by a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. the Tossing Funeral Home.
There will be no calling hours.
