Ethel Barrows
MIDDLEBURY - Ethel Edna Barrows, 79, died Dec. 22, 2001, at the Helen Porter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
She was born April 1, 1922, in Charlotte, a daughter of emery and Ida (LaForce) Abair.
She married Richard Barrows in 1945. They lived in Addison County, where Mrs. Barrows was a homemaker. He died in 1979.
In earlier years she played the accordion and guitar and was a member of a country and western band.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine A. Hallock of Middlebury; a son, William Barrows of Addison; three grandsons and her long time caregiver and companion, Barbara Fuller.
Two brothers, Carl Abair and Arthur Abair; and two sisters, Catherine Derouchie and Helen Goulette, are deceased.
Graveside committal services and burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Vergennes.
There are no calling hours.

Lawrence Favreau
CHICOPEE, Mass. - Lawrence C. Favreau, 72, of New Ludlow Road, died Dec. 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born in 1929, in Tewksbury, and had lived in Holyoke and South Hadley and in Randolph, Vt., before returning to Chicopee in 2000.
He served as a seaman 2nd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was awarded the victory medal.
He married Marie J. Bonneau. She died March 6, 2000.
Mr. Favreau had previously worked as a truck driver in Willimansett for 18 years and was the owner operator of the former La Justice Lounge in Holyoke for 14 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley Falls, a member of the Chicopee Moose Family Lodge #1849.
Survivors include a daughter, Dodi J. Favreau of Chicopee; two brothers, Richard of Chicopee and Walter of Edgewater, Fla.; a sister, Bertha Favreau of Chicopee Center and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, William, is deceased.
Funeral services will be at 8 a.m. Monday at the Arthur J. Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St. in Chicopee. A mass will be at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley Falls. Burial will be at the St. Rose Cemetery in Aldenville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joseph Labosky
SHAMOKIN, Pa. - Joseph Labosky, 85, died Dec. 20, 2001 at the Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Boydtown, the son of John and Eva (Sehptack) Labosky.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European theater of operations during World War II.
He married Catherine Cheslock Labosky April 6, 1942.
Mr. Labosky worked as a millwright, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 76.
He was a long time resident of Shamokin, and was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, the West End Fire Co., the Sunflower Club and the Rainbow Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Ann Levins of Poultney, Vt. and Susan Kanoff of Wynnewood; a son, Joseph J. Labosky of Shamokin; a granddaughter; two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Church. Burial will follow at the All Saints Cemetery in Great Bear.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Lucas Funeral Home, 120 S. Market St. in Shamokin.

BRANDON — John Michael Steinmuller, 84, died Dec. 23, 2001, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
The Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon is in charge of arrangements.
Donna C. Canney Rites
The funeral service for Donna Caggige Canney, 61, of Rutland, who died Dec. 20, 2001, was held Saturday at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. Officiating was the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor. Concelebrants were the Rev. John Herbert, associate pastor, and the Rev. John Guischard. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
Vocalist was Elise Cassarino. Organist was James Cassarino.
Readers were Maryann McDonough and Martha Sagi.
Words of remembrance were offered by Stan Cianfarano.
Bearers were Andrew Costello, Jeff Costello, Kevin Costello and Scott Lozen, all nephews, Scott Holmquist and Brian Nibbelink.
Prayer services were held Friday evening at the Clifford Funeral Home by Rev. Houle.

Louis LaPiana Rites
The funeral service for Louis G. LaPiana, 64, of Long Beach, Calif., who died Dec. 14, 2001, was held Saturday at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. The Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
Vocalist was Helen Davidson. Organist was John Riddle.
Words of remembrance were offered by a grandson, Matthew LaPiana.
Bearers were James Johnston of Montpelier, George Corsones and Francis Alberico, both of Brandon, and Ginger Kent of Rutland.
A military service was provided by American Legion Post 31 of Rutland. George Zsido presented the flag.
A prayer service was held Friday at the Clifford Funeral Home by Rev. Houle.
Maryellen H. Grove Rites
CHITTENDEN — The memorial service for Maryellen H. (Evans) Grove, 61, of Chittenden, who died Dec. 19, 2001, was held Saturday at the Aldous Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward Hackett Jr., pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery.
Organist was Joan Bishop, and vocalist was Victoria LeBeau Hawley.

Alice L. Pushee-Perry Rites
FAIR HAVEN — A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 22, 2001, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven for Mrs. Alice L. Pushee-Perry, who died Dec. 19, 2001. The Rev. Richard W. Tinney, parish priest, officiated.
Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fair Haven with bagpiper and longtime friend Ted Unkle playing her favorite song.
Organist was Nancy Wetherby. Soloist was Joan Durant.
James J. Lemmo
Funeral services for James J. Lemmo, 81, who died Thursday, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church. Private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Paul O. LaPine Jr.
PROCTOR — Funeral services for Paul O. LaPine Jr., 73, who died Friday, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Peter Church in Rutland.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at 1 p.m. in St. Dominic’s Cemetery in Proctor.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Mimi M. Curren
SOUTH WOODSTOCK — Mimi Mundy Curren, 76, died Dec. 21, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born April 16, 1925, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Frederic H. Mundy Sr. and Mildred S. (Harrington) Mundy.
She lived in Edgewood, R.I., Bennington, Waitsfield, Burlington and Jamestown, R.I. She was a part-time resident of South Woodstock in the ’80s and had become a full-time resident during the past five years.
She enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by three children, Turner Wilson of Chelmsford, Mass., Mundy Wilson of Hartland and Peter Wilson of South Woodstock; a brother, Russell C. Mundy of Burnsville, N.C.; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Frederic H. Mundy.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Chapel in Woodstock with Daniel Jantos, pastor, officiating.

Leland A. Hazelton
DORSET — Leland A. “Shorty” Hazelton, 72, died Dec. 23, 2001.
He was born in Dorset during a snowstorm July 2, 1929, the son of Linwood H. and Hope (Beldon) Hazelton. He attended local schools.
He married Hilda Kinnie May 15, 1947, in Rupert.
Mr. Hazelton served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked for Cochran’s Electric, Casey’s Electric and Edgerton Sawmill. He owned and operated Hazelton Lawn Care.
He was a Dorset fireman for 24 years. He was also a member of the Dorset Sportsmen’s Club and the Manchester American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Stephen Hazelton of Danby and Allen Hazelton of Dorset; a daughter, Marlene Harrimen of East Dorset; a brother, Byron Hazelton of Manchester; and a sister, Patricia Bovey of East Rupert; five grandchildren; a step-grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Arden, in 1985.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. Cremation will take place at Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington. His ashes will be buried in Maplehill Cemetery at a later date.

Marion R. Prokulewicz Rites
PROCTORSVILLE — The funeral Mass for Marion R. Prokulewicz, 80, who died Dec. 19, 2001, was celebrated Friday at the Holy Name of Mary in Proctorsville. The Rev. James Lawrence and the Rev. George Paulin officiated.
Organist was Pat Wilk. The Rev. Paulin was soloist.

HARTLAND — Kenneth P. “Joe” Nourse, 54, died Dec, 21, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
