CHERIE ANN (SCHUKNECHT) HAUG
Cherie Ann (Schuknecht) Haug was born March 24th 1959 at Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, just before a major late-season snowstorm. She was a sweet and giving person, meeting the challenges of her life with determination and fortitude.
She graduated from Lodi High School in 1978 and became a caring nurse's aide, first at Maplewood in Sauk City, and later at Good Samaritan Center in Lodi where she made many life-long friends.
On June 25 1984, Cherie married Glenn Haug of rural Grenora, N.D., and moved to his home, thus realizing her lifelong dream of being a farm wife in the west and having horses. Her new family there became as dear to her as her family and friends in Wisconsin.
Cancer struck suddenly and virulently in the fall of 2001, but Cherie faced each rapid blow it delivered with her usual optimism and later acceptance. She looked back with pleasure on such things as enjoying time with her families and friends, crocheting and doing crafts, riding horses with her cousins and especially fishing with her husband at Blacktail Lake. Cherie's gentle spirit held strong to the end, but the cancer ravaging her body took her life on November 12th, 2001 at her parent's home in Lodi, Wisconsin. Invaluable help from hospice made it possible for her to remain in familiar surroundings.
Cherie hoped that learning of her experience would heighten awareness of the deadly stalker, endometrial cancer, which strikes without symptoms. Women must be vigilant by having regular PAP tests.
Glenn's parents, Leonard and Corrine (Carlson) Haug, who were also Cherie's nearest neighbors, both passed away in the past four years after extended illnesses. Survivors include her husband, Glenn; her parents, Bob and Patti (Gottschall) Schuknecht; her siblings and their families: Schoen and Patti (Stevens) Schuknecht, Derek and Tara of Hudson, WI and Stephen and Shelagh Beth (Schuknecht) Munroe, Grady and Ceilidh Grace of St. Albans, VT; Glenn's siblings and their families: Jack and Lorene (Haug) Akovenko, LaVon (Kueffler) Anderson and Mark Kueffler, Orlyn and Tina Haug, Jody Haug and Crystal (Haug) Benth, Leonard and LeeAnn Haug, Nickole (Haug) Solway, Michelle, Leonard, and Ryan Haug. Daniel and Cora Jean (Haug) Shupe, Carl, Glenn, Jesse and John, and George and Sherry (Haug) Gooch, Shawna (Gooch)Ege and Cherie and Glenn's Godchild, Cory Gooch.
