Elaine R. Parker
WALLINGFORD — Elaine Raleigh Parker, 80, of Wallingford died December 16, 2001, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Rutland February 10, 1921, the daughter of John and Catherine (Gilrain) Raleigh.
Mrs. Parker graduated from the Mount Saint Joseph Academy with the class of 1939. She was married to Francis R. Parker of Pittsford on May 15, 1944, at St. Peter Church in Rutland. Together they raised four children.
Mrs. Parker was a longtime resident of East Wallingford and a well-known area artist and teacher in the art of oils and watercolor painting. She volunteered many hours instructing at the Godnick Adult Education Center in Rutland and was an active member of the Chaffee Art Gallery.
She enjoyed camping with her husband and was a member of Marble Valley Gallivanters Good Sam Club.
Mrs. Parker had been employed by Rutland General Electric Company in the drafting department.
Survivors of Elaine Parker are daughter, Judy A. Edmunds of Wallingford; son, Gary F. Parker of Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughters, Deborah Morse of Wallingford and Sandra Brown of West Cliffe, Colorado; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years in 1996; brother, John Raleigh; sister, Jeanne Franklin; and her parents.
There are no visiting hours. Funeral services are Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Wallingford with burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
The family has requested that flowers not be sent. In lieu of flowers you are invited to make memorial contributions to the Rutland County Humane Society Inc., P.O. Box 558, Pittsford, Vt., 05763.

Marcienne R. Malzac
MIDDLEBURY — Marcienne Roseanne Malzac, 87, died Dec. 17, 2001, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 25, 1914, in St. Constant, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Henry and Leonie (Lemieux) Bolduc.
She married Henry Malzac in September 1931.
She worked for Van Raalte Clothing Manufacturers, retiring after 30 years of service.
Mrs. Malzac was a member of St. Mary’s Church for many years.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved to cook.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvette MacArthur of Burlington; three sons, Ernest Malzac and Leo Malzac, both of Middlebury, and Gerald Malzac of New Mexico; two sisters, Simone Malzac of Middlebury and Irene Boise of New Haven; two brothers, Dennis Bolduc of Bridport and Benoit Bolduc of Alabama; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1959; two sisters, Gabriel Bailey in 1999 and Alice Boise in 2001; and a brother, Gerald Bolduc in 1999.
The memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter O’Leary as celebrant. A reception will be held at the American Legion on Boardman Street after the Mass. The graveside committal service and burial will take place in the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Louis G. LaPiana
Louis G. LaPiana, 64, of Long Beach, Calif., and former resident of Rutland died Dec. 14, 2001, at Long Beach Veteran’s Administration Hospital in California.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. A private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Madeline T. Harvey
ROCHESTER — Madeline Tessier Harvey, 69, died Dec. 16, 2001, at her home after a long bout with cancer.
She was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Richford, the daughter of Israel and Bernadette (Godin) Tessier. From an early age she made her home in Hancock with an aunt and uncle, Carl and Mary Wright, who became her mother and father.
She attended school in Hancock and graduated from Rochester High School in 1950.
She married Donald Harvey of Rochester on Oct. 14, 1950, and they lived their entire married life at Mountain View Inn, a 12-room inn that they owned.
She was a member of the Rochester Federated Church for nearly 50 years and held many church positions. She also taught Sunday school for many years.
She enjoyed flowers, oil painting and square dancing. Mrs. Wright also had published a book, “A Place on the Mountain.”
Survivors include her husband of Rochester; two daughters, Carol Norway of Richmond and Katherine Harvey of Rochester; a son, Peter Harvey of Rochester; three brothers, the Rev. Leonard Tessier of Ellijay, Ga., Nelson Tessier of Richford and Morrice Tessier of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister, Wilma McAllister of Richford; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Thompson; two sisters, Frances and Rebecca; and a brother, Larry.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Rochester Federated Church with the Rev. Bill Daniels officiating. Burial will be May 18, 2002, in North Hollow Cemetery in Rochester.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church Fellowship Hall.

Raymond J. Messer Rites
The private graveside service for Raymond J. Messer, 91, of Rutland who died Dec. 13, 2001, was held Monday in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Edward A. Hackett Jr., pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.
Guitarist was John Carter. Janet Kehn and John Carter sang duets.
Words of remembrance were offered by family and friends.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
Robert N. McClure Rites
The graveside service for Robert N. McClure, 83, of Rutland who died Dec. 13, 2001, was held Monday in East Clarendon Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Bishop, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Words of remembrance were offered by Peter McClure, a son.
American Legion Post 31 of Rutland and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 provided military honors. Jim Burke presented the flag to the family. George Zsido sounded taps.
A Masonic service was held by Chipman Lodge 52 of Wallingford.

Carroll S. Waite
MARSHFIELD, Mass. — Carroll S. Waite, 66, died Dec. 16 at home.
He was born in Rutland, Vt., and graduated from Rutland High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, retiring from the South Weymouth Naval Station. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars on the USS Mississippi, USS Cambria, USS Chilton and USS Pocono. He received the Navy Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as an auto damage appraiser for Arbella Insurance Co. until 1999.
Mr. Waite was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Marshfield, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 66, American Legion Post 31 in Rutland, Vt., Lopes-Ferris Korean War Veterans Association and charter member of Top 3 Military Retired Association.
He was recognized in the 1970 Outstanding Men of America.
Survivors include four daughters, Debra Kroening of Mukwonago, Wisc., MaryAnn Hebert, Patricia Melone and Michelle Hale, all of Marshfield; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his stepmother, Viola Posmanter of Brandon, Vt.; and two sisters, Harriet Eitapence and Mary Murphy, both of Rutland, Vt.
She was predeceased by Hugh Weir and George Waite Jr.
The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Green Harbor. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield.

Joseph F. Marchand
WINDSOR — Joseph F. Marchand, 48, died Dec. 9, 2001, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center Emergency Department in Windsor.
He was born Oct. 5, 1953, in Newton, Mass., the son of Frederick and Marion Marchand.
Mr. Marchand owned and operated Twin State Thermocrete Chimney Lining in Windsor for several years.
He was a talented musician.
Survivors include a daughter, Shea Marchand, and son, Jason Marchand, both of Windsor; his companion, Pat Chase, and her daughter, Krystal Chase, both of Windsor; his mother of Canton, Mass.; two sisters, Judy Wysocki of Canton, Mass., and Cathy Blair of Marshfield, Mass.; and a brother, Leo Marchand of Pembrook, Mass.
The memorial service was held Sunday at Our Lady of Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Marshfield, Mass.
Robert A. Elliott
WOODSTOCK — Robert A. Elliott, 88, died Dec. 16, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born April 5, 1913, in Winchester, Mass., the son of Andrew and Sarah (Stewart) Elliott.
He married Mary Murphy on May 10, 1943, in Winchester. She died in 1999.
Mr. Elliott was a police officer for the town of Winchester for 30 years. He and his wife also operated the Nook and Cranny Antique Shop in Winchester for 20 years. They retired to Woodstock in 1996.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Winchester and Woodstock Country Clubs and American Legion.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia McCarthy of Woodstock; three granddaughters; and a brother, John Elliott of Acton, Mass.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock with the Rev. Christina Brannock-Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lucy MacKenzie Humane Society in Woodstock, Massachusetts Society for Protection against Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) or Pine Street Inn in Boston, Mass.

Sophie M. Jancewicz
NORTH WALPOLE, N.H. — Sophie M. Jancewicz, 92, died Dec. 16, 2001, at McGirr Nursing Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.
She was born Feb. 2, 1909, in Poland, the daughter of Bartholomew and Blanche (Fiegel) Ostrowski.
She attended school in North Walpole.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bellows Falls.
Survivors include a brother, Edward Ostrowski of North Walpole; three sisters, Mary Griffin of Windsor, Vt., Julia Gens and Jane Sabourin, both of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nick Jancewicz.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Bellows Falls with the Rev. Felix Reczek officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
