Edna M. Lenehan

CAMPRIDGE, N.Y. — Edna M. Lenehan, 79, died Nov. 19, 2001, at her home after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 6, 1922, in North Easton, Mass., the daughter of Carl and Anna (Larson) Erickson.

She graduated from Oliver Ames High School in North Easton as salutatorian of her class and Burdett College in Boston with a degree in office management.

She married Richard Lenehan on Aug. 5, 1944, in St. Louis.

Mrs. Lenehan had served with her husband, the Rev. Lenehan, as a missionary to Dutch New Guinea. She assisted him as secretary, church organist and Sunday school teacher in Buzzard’s Bay, Mass., Bennington, Vt., Buffalo, Rutland, Vt., Ballston Spa, Westfield, Mass., and Berlin Baptist in Berlin.

She was a lifelong member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and member of the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and deep sea fishing.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard Lenehan Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Rosalie Johnson of Valatie and Nancy Peterson of Rutland, Vt.; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Greta Sundell and Elsie Drake.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington with the Rev. Jonathan Youngmann, pastor of the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church, and the Rev. Nicholas Becker, pastor of Clearview CMA Church, officiating. Burial will take place Monday at 2 p.m. in Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

A reception will be held Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington for family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, the Great Commission Fund (Foreign Missions) or the Hoosick Falls Community Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Byron Blanchard

ST. ALBANS — Byron “Red” Blanchard, 89, died Nov. 20, 2001, in Brunswick, Maine.

He was born April 3, 1912, in Plymouth, the son of Edward and Edna (Moore) Blanchard.

He was a cousin of Calvin Coolidge.

He graduated from Vermont Academy and University of Alabama in 1935.

Mr. Blanchard was employed as a civil engineer with the Vermont Highway Department for 35 years.

He served with the Navy Sea Bees during World War II in the Pacific and was recalled to active duty in 1951-53 at the Navy’s David Taylor Model Basin in Maryland. After his discharge he returned to work as a resident engineer and was later appointed to the position of district engineer in the St. Albans Highway District 8, retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the Vermont Society of Engineers and First Congregational Church in St. Albans.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor (Gates) Blanchard of St. Albans; a son, Edward Blanchard of Bath, Maine; a daughter, Sarah Bing of Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred (Marks) Blanchard; two brothers; and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church in St. Albans with the Rev. Oren Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Vermont Division Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, 05602.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Heald Funeral Home in St. Albans.

Beatrice E. Rudd

ARLINGTON — The service of remembrance for Beatrice E. Rudd, formerly of Arlington, will be held Friday at noon at the Federated Church of East Arlington with the Rev. Joan N. O’Gorman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Network, 128 W. Main St., Bayshore, N.Y., 11706.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Arlington.

Anne Stokes Rites

NORTH SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for Anne Stokes, 72, who died Nov. 17, 2001, was held Tuesday at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Thomas W. Hiltsley, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.

Bearers were Douglas Stokes of North Springfield, Jack Alger of Voorhees, N.J., Bob Alger of Weathersfield, Scott Page and William Young, both of Springfield.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

David B. Danyow

EAST CORINTH — David B. Danyow, 62, of Vermont, Route 25, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2001, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born on September 13, 1939, in Ferrisburgh, Vt., he was the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Ashley) Danyow.

He attended Vergennes High School and Castleton State College.

On October 23, 1982, he married France Gagnon in Plainfield, Vt.

He retired from the Vermont Air National Guard with 38 years of service, retiring in the grade of chief master sergeant as the field maintenance branch chief. He was employed at Wilkins Harley Davidson, in Barre, Vt., for the past five years as a seasonal employee, enjoying his winters in Florida with his wife, riding their Harley Davidsons. He died doing what he loved most, riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his loving wife, France G. Danyow of East Corinth; one son, Jonathan Danyow and his wife, Julia, of Queensbury, N.Y.; two daughters, Tonya Danyow of Barre, Vt., and Jamie Kaye Danyow of Poultney, Vt.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Danyow Jr., Jacob Danyow, Neisha Meachan, Abigail Meacham. David is also survived by one brother, Richard Danyow and his wife, Elaine, of Castleton, Vt., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Lafleche who passed away in September of 2001.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Monica Church in Barre.

Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., in Barre on Thursday, November 22, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt., with full military honors.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 12 Hurricane Lane, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt., 05495.

Freda M. Martin

MONKTON — Freda May (Charles) Martin, 80, died Nov. 20, 2001, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 19, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Laura (Brewster) Charles.

She married Alfred Martin on Sept. 15, 1937.

Mrs. Martin was employed at Porter Hospital for several years and Van Raalt Sewing Co. for 19 years.

She was an active member of Green Mountain Seniors of Bristol and the Russ Sholes Senior Center of Middlebury. She was a member of the RSVP, Florona Grange of Monkton and Monkton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for several years.

She enjoyed her flower garden.

Survivors include two sons, George of Rutland and Raymond of Hinesburg; a daughter, Elizabeth Pecor of Monkton; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1987 and a son, Levi in 1998.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Burial will follow in Hinesburg Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Green Mountain Seniors, Bristol, 05443, or Monkton First Responses, Monkton, 05460.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home.

Rena P. Fleming

LINCOLN — Rena P. Fleming, 84, died Nov. 20, 2001, at the home of her granddaughter, Donna Wedge, in Hinesburg.

She was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Lincoln, the daughter of William and Mary (Cobb) Martell.

Survivors include eight children, Lois Grace and Georgia Grace, both of Bristol, Arthur Fleming of Lincoln, Charles Fleming and Francis Fleming, both of Bristol, Joyce Fleming of Hancock, Harold Fleming of Burlington and Leon Fleming of Vergennes; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and caretakers, Ricky DeVoid and Nora Cram.

She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Fleming in 1991; a son, Floyd Fleming in 2000; and a grandson in 1999.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.

Contributions may be made to Bristol Rescue Squad, Bristol, 05443.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home.

Mary G. Neri Rites

MIDDLEBURY — The funeral Mass for Mary Giunta “Mama” Neri, 90, who died Nov. 17, 2001, was celebrated Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter O’Leary, the Rev. Adam Krempa and the Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz as celebrants. The graveside service and burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Organist was Kevin Parizo.

Eulogies were given by Teresa Parker and Anthony Neri.

Pallbearers were Brian Baldwin, David Preble, David Nienow, Jeff New, Steve Dupoise and Chris Hesslink.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service.

Robert B. Sargent

LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. — Robert B. Sargent, 58, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died Nov. 20, 2001, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Rutland, the son of Beatrice and William Sargent, formerly of Chittenden.

He attended Rutland High School.

Mr. Sargent was employed as a lineman by Central Vermont Public Service Corp. in Rutland and Sumter Electric Co-op in Sumterville. Most recently he owned and operated Sargent’s Auto in Sumterville.

He was a member of American Legion Post 31 in Rutland.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and genealogy.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Sargent of Lake Panasoffkee; a daughter, Kelly Sargent of Williston, Vt.; two sons, Christopher Sargent of Silver Spring, Md., and Robert Sargent II of Lake Panasoffkee; a stepdaughter, Hope Pope of Brooksville; three sisters, Janette Parker of Rutland, Patricia Abel of Lake Panasoffkee and Carol Jerome of Orlando; a brother, William Sargent of North Carolina; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Dale Sargent in 1998.

There will not be a memorial service.

Ervin B. Berry

POULTNEY — Mr. Ervin Bernard Berry, 83, a longtime resident of Poultney, died Tuesday evening, November 20, 2001, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Berry was born on July 7, 1918, in Wilder, Vermont, one of nine children, to Ervin Byron Berry and Mae Josie (Howard) Berry. He was educated in the Wilder schools and he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II where he participated in the landing on Normandy Beach.

After his return home from military service he eventually became employed at Green Mountain College in the custodial department where he worked for many years, retiring in 1985. Ervin was very active in his community as a twenty year member and former fire chief on the Poultney Hose Co. 1, Volunteer Fire Co., and also as a former lister, selectman and as past village president for the Village of Poultney. He was also a member of the Morning Star Lodge 37, F&AM of Poultney and a twenty-five year member of the Cairo Temple Shrine of Rutland and a former member of the Evergreen Chapter 63, Order Eastern Star. He was also a member of the J. Claire Carmody Post 39, American Legion of Poultney.

Mr. Berry is survived by his children, Cheryl L. Kail and her husband Charles of Burlington, Vt., Candice B. Grenier and her husband Mark of Fair Haven, Vt., Chad E. Berry and his wife Terry of West Pawlet, Vt.; his two sisters, Mrs. Urlyn Goff of Whitehall, N.Y., Mrs. Glenna Duval of Poultney; and also by his eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Joyce M. (Spaulding) Berry who died on April 26, 1997; and by his five sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Avenue, Poultney, Vt. The Rev. Ashley Meade will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the Poultney Cemetery with military honors being provided by the J. Claire Carmody Post 39, American Legion.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The Morning Star Lodge 37, F&AM will conduct fraternal services at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Berry may be given to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, Mass. 01104.

Albert J. Willette Rites

BRANDON — The graveside committal service and burial for Albert Joseph Willette, 70, who died Nov. 15, 2001, were held Wednesday in Pine Hill Cemetery.

American Legion Post 55 of Brandon provided military honors. Chaplain Dudley Berry presented the flag to Mr. Willette’s wife.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
