Mary G. Doolittle
SPRINGFIELD — Mary G. Doolittle, 83, died Nov. 13, 2001, at Springfield Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 16, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Donahough) Gibson of Brownsville.
Mrs. Doolittle was a graduate of Windsor High School.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Doolittle of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Mary Doolittle of Taos, N.M., and Constance Moser of Ascutney; a son, Charles Doolittle of Hookset, N.H.; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Doolittle, and by a sister, Margaret Burke.
In honoring Mrs. Doolittle’s request, there will be no funeral service.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Grange Hall in Brownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Windsor Historical Society or Kurn Hattin Homes in Westminster.
Ernest C. Boufford
SPRINGFIELD — Ernest C. Boufford, 72, died Nov. 11, 2001, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation after a long illness.
He was born March 31, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Hilaire and Lillian (Myhra) Boufford.
He attended Springfield schools.
Mr. Boufford was co-owner of Green Mountain Soaring Corporation at Hartness Airport in Springfield, and manager and mechanic at the airport.
He served in the armed forces during the Korean War.
He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed baseball and airplane memorabilia. He also owned his own sailplane.
Survivors include three brothers, Wallace Boufford of Springfield, Charles Boufford of Windsor and Gerald Boufford of Columbus, Ga.; and a sister, Zada Murphy of White River Junction.
The graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
A reception will follow at Hartness State Airport in Springfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester.
Richard E. Shampeny
JAY, N.Y. — Richard E. Shampeny, 85, of the Au Sable Acres, died Nov. 13, 2001, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
He was born July 22, 1916, in Rochester, Vt., the son of Richard and Mildred (Eaton) Shampeny.
He owned and operated Adirondack Hardwood Lumber Co. in Newcomb and later worked for Au Sable Acres Corporation in Jay as manager. In 1979 he opened and operated Shampeny Associates Inc., selling real estate and custom homes until his death.
Mr. Shampeny was a member of the Masons and a Shriner at the Rutland Temple of Vermont.
Survivors include his companion, Polly Andrews of Jay; three daughters, Gloria Murdie of Minerva, Patricia Shampeny of Bozeman, Mont., and Pamela Shampeny of Watervliet; three sons, Richard Shampeny of Lake Placid, John Shampeny of Manhatten, Mont., and Gary Shampeny of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester, Vt.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael W. Johnson Rites
POWNAL — The funeral service for Michael W. (Higgins) Johnson, 40, who died Nov. 10, 2001, was held Wednesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor of Pownal First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery .
Bearers were Michael Weber Sr., Michael Weber Jr., Jeremy Lampiasi, Wally Burdick, Henry Higgins and David Weber.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Kathleen M. Murphy
SHOREHAM — Kathleen Margaret Murphy, 50, formerly of Norton, Mass., died Nov. 13, 2001, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
She was born March 1, 1951, in Holbrook, Mass., the daughter of Joseph and Alice (McSolla) Mahoney.
She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1969.
She was employed by Armstrong Tile and Linoleum in Braintree, Mass., for 23 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, she worked as a nurse’s assistant.
Ms. Murphy was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mansfield, Mass.
She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and arts and crafts.
Survivors include a son, Brian Murphy, and a daughter, Dawn Murphy, both of Norton; a stepdaughter, Leslie Murphy of Worchester, Mass.; her stepfather, Charlie Wheeler Sr. of Deerfield, N.H.; two brothers, Robert Mahoney of Florida and Charlie Wheeler Jr. of Deerfield; a stepbrother, Martin Wheeler of Connecticut; two sisters, Carol Fonteneau of Billerica, Mass., and Julie Rumfelt of Deerfield, N.H.; a stepsister, Miranda Bean of Florida; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mansfield. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Leona Dapsis
CORNWALL — Leona Dapsis, 81, died Nov. 13, 2001, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in New Haven at Brooksville, the daughter of Clive and Gladys (Palmer) Angel.
She married Joseph P. Dapsis on Sept. 21, 1951.
The couple purchased a farm in Cornwall in 1953 where they operated a dairy and raised vegetables. After they sold the farm, Mrs. Dapsis worked at Brandon Training School for several years.
She was a member of Cornwall Congregational Church and Russ Sholes Senior Center in Middlebury, and had been a member of the Middlebury Farmer’s Market and RSVP at Helen Porter Nursing Home for several years.
Mrs. Dapsis enjoyed sewing, gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Parker of Middletown Springs; two sons, Jacob Dapsis of Bridport and Henry Angel of Weston; a stepson, Joseph Dapsis of Worcester, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Rose Chausse of Spencer, Mass.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dapsis in 1991; a brother, Clive Angel Jr.; a sister, Doris Colvin, and a nephew.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury with the Rev. Stephen Payne, pastor of United Baptist Church of Poultney, officiating.
Friends may call Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

James J. Carlin
MIDDLEBURY — James Joseph Carlin, 92, died Nov. 14, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1909, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Christopher and Anna (Morris) Carlin.
Mr. Carlin married Elisabeth Schmitt in 1940 in Ridgewood, N.J.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in Ridgewood and for the Salisbury Post Office as acting postmaster. He later worked for Tuttle Law Print in Rutland and Standard Register Co. in Middlebury. After his retirement in 1974, he worked at Farrell’s Men’s Shop in Middlebury.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Carlin was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury.
Survivors include his wife of Middlebury; a son, J. Christopher Carlin of Hyde Park; two daughters, Judith Cole of Middlebury and Ellen Prelack of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Memorial contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury.

Harriet G. Stone
VERGENNES — Harriet G. Stone, 86, died Nov. 14, 2001, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury after a long illness.
She was born July 4, 1915, in Florence, the daughter of Winfred and Carrie (Grace) English.
Mrs. Stone enjoyed flower gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Mae Larrabee and Mary Bergeron, both of Vergennes; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; a sister, Berniece Kapitan of Rutland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Stone in 1984; by a sister and three brothers.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Andrew P. Gambardella
Andrew P. Gambardella, 70, of Rutland died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in New York Jan. 14, 1931, the son of Andrea and Sylvia (D’Angelis) Gambardella.
He was a United States Marine veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Gambardella married Marilyn Waldron in 1965.
He was a New York City firefighter for 22 years before retiring.
He enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Gambardella of Rutland; two daughters, Susan J. Cassarino of Rutland and Lisa A. Goldblatt of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Theresa Quigley and Anne Gorski of Bayside, N.Y.; two brothers, John Gambardella and Thomas Gambardella of Kissimmee, Fla.; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Andre Houle, pastor of St. Peter’s Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 4 to 7 at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Vernon G. Reed Sr. Rites
The funeral service for Vernon Guy Reed Sr., 80, of Sanford, Fla., and formerly of Rutland, who died Nov. 10, 2001, was held Saturday at the Tossing Funeral Home. Pastor Ronald Taylor of Sanford officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, with Pastor Taylor reading the committal prayers.
Soloist was Cheryl Mahalik, a granddaughter. Organist was Alan D. Walker.
Bearers were Vernon G. Reed Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla., Jack Hennessey of Rutland, Phil Sienicki of West Rutland and Philip Mahalik of Wallington, N.J.
Albert J. Willette Rites
BRANDON — The funeral service for Albert Joseph Willette, who died Nov. 15, 2001, was held Sunday at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated. A private graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place on Wednesday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Following the service, the family received friends at the Brandon Inn.
