Carvey Infant
PROCTOR — Austin W. Carvey, 8 months, died Oct. 19, 2001, at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
She was born on Feb. 27, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, the daughter of Thomas Carvey and Tara Racine.
She is survived by her parents of Proctor; her paternal grandparents, Robert Carvey of Rutland and Mary Carvey of North Clarendon; her maternal grandmother, Pamela Goodwin of Proctor; her maternal great-grandparents, Dezso and Beatrice Nemeth of Proctor; her paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Carvey of Fair Haven, and several aunts and uncles.
She was predeceased by her paternal great-grandfather, Edward Carvey Sr., who died Oct. 14, 2001.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Joseph A. Sherman Rites
FAIR HAVEN — The funeral service for Joseph A. Sherman, 83, who died Tuesday, was conducted Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Fair Haven. The Rev. John Wood, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Organist was Eunice Sheldrick.
Bearers were Francis Owens, Todd Owens, Aaron Oliver, Asa Oliver, Kevin Mullin and Kipp Mullin.
The Durfee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bertha M. Sherman
PAWLET — Bertha M. Sherman, 89, died Oct. 19, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 19, 1912, in Pawlet, the daughter of Martin I. and Hattie J. (Brown) Sherman. She was educated at the Pawlet School, at Granville High School in Granville, N.Y., and at Rutland Business College.
She had been employed by the Ayrshire Breeders Association in Brandon and Springfield Hospital in Springfield.
She was a member of the Pawlet Community Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen (Sherman) Young of Wells and Grace Sherman of Pawlet; two nieces, a nephew and cousins.
A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family by the Rev. Robert Boutwell. Burial will be at the Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Pawlet.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Pawlet Community Church, Box 116, Pawlet, 05761.

Marguerite L. Lee
GRANVILLE, N.Y. — Marguerite L. Lee, 75, died Oct. 19, 2001, at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Granville, the daughter of Wilbur and Stella (Jones ) Hall. She was a graduate of Granville High School.
Mrs. Lee was employed by Sherwood Medical in Argyle for 20 years before retiring in 1989.
She was married to Paul M. Lee for 55 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Clifford Lee of Niskayuna; four daughters, Paulette Zovistoski of Granville, Brenda Phillips of Salem, Bonnie Prehoda of Adamsville and Lisa Davidson of Wells, Vt.; three sisters, Dorothy Hicks, Florence Lee and Lillian Hall, all of Granville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at First Church in Middle Granville. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Middle Granville.

Ruby I. Bent Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Ruby I. Bent, who died Oct. 17, 2001, was held Saturday at All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home with the Rev. John Foster, chaplain, officiating.
Organist was Louise Gauthier. Soloist was Monica Murray.
Mrs. Bent’s son, retired Marine Maj. Charles J. Bushey offered the eulogy.
Bearers were four grandsons, Martin Mears. Thomas Bushey, Daniel Bushey and Timothy Bushey, and Lawrence Gates and Winfield Gates.
A reception was held at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Dawn Bushey.
Burial took place in Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Foster officiating.
On Friday evening, members of the VFW Post 1332 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose 1018 and members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary conducted services at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Christine Wright Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Christine Wright was held Friday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Bearers were three grandsons, Thomas Bushey, Daniel Bushey and Timothy Bushey, and William Wright, William Montgomery and Lee Waters.
Burial took place in Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Drosky officiating.
A reception at the home of Mrs. Wright’s daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Charles Bushey, followed the committal service.
Lucy F. Hodgkins
SPRINGFIELD — Lucy F. Hodgkins, 89, died Oct. 20, 2001, at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, N.H., following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1912, in La Grange, Ga., the daughter of Charles and Ada (Prince) Freeman.
She attended schools in Georgia.
She married Stuart W. Hodgkins on Aug. 30, 1932, in Alabama. She and her husband had made their home in Springfield since 1935.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Altrurian Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Hospital Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sailing and snowshoeing. She was an avid bridge player, was known for her Southern cooking, and enjoyed collecting cobalt glass and Hummels.
Survivors include her husband of Springfield; a daughter, Jane Bennett of Springfield; two sons, William S. Hodgkins of Shelburne and James W. Hodgkins of Newark, Del.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Hodgkins, and by three brothers and seven sisters.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Springfield with the Rev. William Nelson, pastor, and the Rev. Rick Blaisdell of the Renewed Life in Jesus Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.,
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Adis P. Mackey Rites
CHESTER — The funeral service for Adis P. Mackey, 82, who died Oct. 18, 2001, was held Sunday in the First Baptist Church in Chester. The Rev. Thomas Charleton officiated. Burial followed in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester.
Organist was Christian Thayer. Soloist was Katy Charleton.
Bearers were Jeffrey Woodbury, Douglas Woodbury, Autumn Maki, James Ashe, John Spaulding and Everett Bennett.
The Davis Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Robert A. Hitchcock
ATHENS — Robert A. Hitchcock, 85, died at Springfield Hospital on Oct. 20, 2001, following a long illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Athens, the son of Dorr and Lucy (Ball) Hitchcock. He attended school in Athens.
He worked for the city of Claremont, N.H., the Hinsdale (N.H.) Paper Mill, Whitcomb Sand and Gravel, Walpole, N.H., and Maple Valley Ski Area. He also worked as a logger in Jamaica, for Terry Tyler Construction, for Bartlett Concrete, for the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home and Store, and the Bellows Falls Police Department.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by three sons, Raymond Hitchcock of Athens, Brian Hitchcock of Grantham, N.H., and Paul Hitchcock of Brattleboro; a daughter, Shirley Long of Rockingham; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred W. Hitchcock, by his brothers and by a sister.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls with the Rev. Harold Noyes officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edgar D. Frey
SAXTONS RIVER — Edgar Dana Frey, 88, died Oct. 21, 2001, at McGirr Nursing Home in Bellows Falls.
He was born April 19, 1913, in Springfield, Mass., the son of William J. Frey Sr. and Annie (Pomeroy) Frey.
He moved to Saxtons River in 1928. He attended schools in Bellows Falls and graduated from Vermont Academy in Saxtons River in 1934.
Mr. Frey worked at Fellows Corp. in Springfield for 40 years and for Vermont Academy, where he retired after 10 years.
He was a 50-year member and Past Master of King Solomon Masonic Lodge of Bellows Falls, was a charter member of Saxtons River Fire Department and was a member of Christ’s Church in Saxtons River. He had also been active with the Boy Scouts in Saxtons River.
On Sept 25, 1937, he married Katherine Simonds.
In addition to his wife of Saxtons River, he is survived by a son, James Frey of Putney; a daughter, Dianne Illingworth of Westminster; two brothers, Ralph Frey of Knoxville, Tenn., and Donald Frey of Santa Paula, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis Osgood of Saxtons River; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Saxtons River Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Friedman officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Rose M. Fennessey
DREWSVILLE, N.H. — Rose M. (Donzello) Fennessey, 71, died at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland Oct. 21, 2001, after a long illness.
She was born April 16, 1930, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Pavase) Donzello. She attended St. Charles School and Bellows Falls High School.
She married Francis Fennessey on April 15, 1950, at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls.
She worked in the Bellows Falls school system, for the Fall Mountain Regional School system in Langdon, and at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland.
She was a member of the St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls and the Holy Spirit Church in Alstead.
Mrs. Fennessey spent most of her later years in Drewsville. She enjoyed walking and gardening.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Fennessey, and a granddaughter, Heather Fennessey, both of Drewsville; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.
A graveside funeral service will be held at the St. Charles Cemetery in Westminster on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Friends may call Tuesday at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls from 7 to 9 p.m.
