Robert E. Mack
BELLOWS FALLS - Robert E. Mack, 70, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.
He was born June 18, 1930, in Walpole, N.H., son of Adolphus and Doris (Houghton) Mack. He attended school in Walpole.
He worked at Northeast Culvert in Westminster and American Optical and Erving Paper, both in Brattleboro, retiring at age 62.
Mr. Mack was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Polish American Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda James of Bellows Falls, Darlene Wilkinson of Charlestown, N.H., and Regina Brooks of Littleton, N.H.; a son, Robert E. Mack Jr. of Vinegrove, Ky.; a sister, Judy Gray of Limerick, Pa.; a brother, Reginald Mack of Walpole; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Walpole Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Noyes officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home.
Nellie J. Preseau
ORWELL - Nellie Preseau, 75, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a sudden illness.
She was born on Aug. 10, 1925, daughter of Benjamin H. and Amy McFarran Moore of Whitehall, N.Y.
She married Lawrence Preseau on Dec. 22, 1945 at St. Paul's Catholic Rectory in Orwell. It was 22 degrees below zero on her wedding day.
Nellie was an active Middlebury College Panther Hockey Fan, which she enjoyed the excitement of the sport along with meeting and socializing with the team's parents.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 27 in Middlebury.
She was a member of the Fair Haven Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the New England Carnival Glass Association. Years ago she was also a member of the Orwell Grange.
Nellie was an individual who enjoyed life and those who were around her, especially her family. Nellie's favorite personal time was the playing of her piano with her lovely voice of the melodies which everyone enjoyed.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, in 1993, and two brothers, Benjamin Moore and Irving Moore of New York.
Survivors include one daughter, Peg Preseau Cyr and her husband, Ernest Cyr of East Middlebury; two sons, Francis Preseau and his wife, Eileen; and her son, Bob Preseau, all of Orwell. The family also includes Oscar, the cat; one grandson, Benjamin Preseau and companion, Julie Hunt; daughter Jamie; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Renee; one brother, Russell Moore and his wife, Irene, of Fort Edward, N.Y.; many, many nieces and nephews; also many of Nellie's friends and neighbors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Middlebury. Celebrant will be Rev. Lance Harlow. Graveside committal services and burial will follow in St. Genevieve Cemetery, Shoreham.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Service, 117 So. Main St., Middlebury.

Richard S. Davis
Richard S. “Dick” Davis, 63, of Rutland, died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Dyberry Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He was born April 21, 1938, in Rutland, son of Max and Eleanore (Swift) Davis.
Mr. Davis graduated from Rutland High School and attended the University of Minnesota.
He was a pilot for 44 years, and sold aviation insurance for 28 years. For the last 7 years he was involved in aviation sales.
Mr. Davis was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the QB’s, and the Rutland Country Club, where he was the assistant pro under Bob Hawthorne, later regaining his amateur status.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Brathovde) Davis of Rutland; his mother, Eleanore Davis of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Terri of Bloomington, Minn., and Richard Davis Jr. of Carrollton, Texas; three daughters, Lorena Carter and her husband, David of Champlin, Minn., Lisa Davis of Savage, Minn., and Christina Davis of Bloomington, Minn.; three step-children, Nalani Lavedure of Crystal, Minn., Jacque Lavedure of New Hope, Minn., and Kaylie Lavedure of Schenectady, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Crystal, Trevor and Troy Davis, Nathaniel and Isaac Davis, Nicole and Jacob Carter, and Jessie Rae Gerth; one brother, Norman Davis and his wife, Jean of Stillwater, Minn.; and one niece and two nephews.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church with the Reverend Edward A. Hackett Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Tossing Funeral Home.

Donald J. Taylor
Donald J. Taylor, 84, of Rutland, died June 11, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born May 30, 1917, in Rutland, son of Rupert and Anita (Pidgeon) Taylor.
He graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1935, where he played on the state champion football team and track team.
Mr. Taylor married Ida J. Frankiewicz on Sept. 15, 1941.
He was manager of Rutland Lumber Co., and owner and operator of Roving Lumber Co. in Rutland.
Mr. Taylor was a sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He was an usher at St. Peter’s Church for more than 50 years, a 50-year member of the Eagles Club and a member of the American Legion Post 31. He was a Rutland Town auditor for 20 years and a member of the Rutland Planning Commission for eight years. Mr. Taylor was president of Northeastern Lumberman’s Association and worked for Small Business Association Administration for Rutland County in the score program.
Survivors include his wife of Rutland; a daughter, Martha J. Smith of Rutland; two sons, Gregory S. Taylor and Donald J. Taylor Jr. of Rutland; two brothers, Kenneth Taylor of Milford, N.H., and Robert Taylor of Camden, S.C.; two sisters, Jean LaBelle of Milford N.H., and Dorothy Pelkey of Barre; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Taylor, who died in 1996.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

June N. Elias
FAIR HAVEN — June Nancy Elias, 72, died June 10, 2001, at Sager Nursing Home in Fair Haven.
She was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Cliffside, N.J., daughter of Harry and May (McClaester) Hilker.
She graduated from Leonia High School in Leonia, N.J., in 1947.
She married Samuel A. Elias of Fair Haven on July 12, 1980.
Mrs. Elias was a secretary for various area firms until she began working for George Sealey and Associates in Ridgefield, N.J., in 1961. She retired as office manager in 1977 after 16 years of service.
She was an avid camper and belonged to Good Sam Camping Club. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven.
Survivors include her husband of Fair Haven; a stepdaughter, Cathy E. Ranney of West Haven; three stepsons, S. Alan Elias of Bomoseen, Stephen H. Elias of Clarendon and Thomas B. Elias of Foxboro, Mass.; a sister, Marie Gentile of New Bern, N.C.; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven with the Rev. Richard Tinney, pastor, as celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. The vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. by the Rev. Tinney.
The family will receive friends at the home of the daughter Cathy Ranney for a time of fellowship and reflection after the funeral Mass.

Elmer F. Miller
JAMESTOWN, R.I. — Elmer F. Miller, 74, died June 9, 2001, at Newport Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Providence, son of Frederick and Ellen (Anderson) Miller.
He graduated from East Providence High School in 1944 and the University of Rhode Island in 1966 with a degree in engineering.
Mr. Miller worked at Quonset Pont NAS and later at Leviton Manufacturing of Warwick as an industrial engineer until he retired.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
Mr. Miller was an avid sailor and former member of the Jamestown Yacht Club, the Jamestown Lions Club and the Jamestown Ambulance Association. He was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in Jamestown.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rita M. (Auger) Miller; a daughter, Patricia Anton of Arlington, Va.; two sons, Peter A. Miller of Rutland, Vt., and Paul F. Miller of Newport; and a brother, Robert Miller of Riverside.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. A private burial will be held in the parish cemetery.

Stephen J. Milenac
BOMOSEEN — The funeral Mass for Stephen J. Milenac, 71, who died June 10, 2001, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven with the Rev. Richard W. Tinney officiating. Graveside committal services with full military honors will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Vermont State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
Visiting hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven. The Crippen Fellows Post 50, American Legion of Castleton, will conduct a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home.
Joseph Dauphinais rites
The funeral Mass for Joseph Dauphinais, 71, who died June 9, 2001, was held Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. W. Andre Houle, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
Organist was James Cassarino and vocalist was Karen Burgess.
Ministers of the altar were Alfred Flory, Joseph Tilden, Al Michael Cioffi and James Davidson.
Readers were Jamie Ward and Ann Lyons.
The Rutland American Legion Post 31 provided military honors. Lowell Wheelock presented the flag to the family. Taps were sounded by George Zsido.
Bearers were Gary St. Lawrence, Dan Towne and Tim Cassidy, all of Rutland, Tom Carlson of Center Rutland and Scott Ryan of Shrewsbury.
A prayer service was held Monday at Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Houle.
Arrangements were under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Hazel E. Livingston
BRAINTREE — Hazel Ethel Livingston, 70, died June 12, 2001, at Mobile Acres in Braintree.
She was born July 4, 1930, in Tyson, daughter of Carroll and Edna (Blanchard) Wade.
She was educated in Tyson schools.
She married Ira John Martin in 1948 and George Livingston in 1951.
Mrs. Livingston was a waitress at Percy’s Atlantic Diner in Royalton for 30 years.
She was a member of Green Mountain Gospel Chapel in Randolph.
She enjoyed bingo, dancing, family outings and caring for those in need.
Survivors include two sons, John Martin Jr. of Rochester and Charles Livingston Sr. of Sharon; two daughters, Dianne Poole of Braintree and Patricia Quillia of White River Junction; three sisters, Etna McIntyre of Ludlow, Blanche Durkee of Rutland and Rosella Pecor of Saxtons River; six brothers, Ernest Wade of Randolph, Ira Wade of Bridgewater, Carroll Wade Jr. of Weston, Harley Wade of Reading, George Wade of Ludlow and Charles Wade of Proctorsville; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by two granddaughters.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph with the Rev. Ronald Rilling officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bethel.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
