Margarett Nichols
MANCHESTER — Margarett (Wade) Nichols, 87, of Middlebury and formerly of Manchester, died May 31, 2001, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury after a long illness.
She was born July 13, 1913, in East Dorset, daughter of Lawrence and Elida (Ames) Wade.
She attended Burr and Burton Seminary and Bay Path Institute.
She was married to Walter Sherman Hitchcock for 41 years. He died in 1973. She later married Charles (Tuck) Nichols.
Mrs. Nichols started the lunch program at Dorset Elementary School, worked for the Dorset Nursing Association and was a secretary at Ethan Allen Community College. She was also a bookkeeper and coordinator for many of the tours at Hildene.
During World War II she and her husband were part of the civil air patrol in Manchester. She was a life member of the Manchester Grange.
Mrs. Nichols was an avid gardener and square dancer.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Hitchcock of Nebraska and Roger Hitchcock of Poultney; two daughters, Ramona Baldwin of Whiting and Patricia Decker of Mellenville, N.Y.; a brother, Philip Wade of Pompano, N.Y.; a sister, Florence Eaton of Burlington; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at East Dorset Congregational Church with the Rev. Robert Mathis of Whiting Community Church officiating.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center.

Edgar L. LaBelle
WILDER — Edgar “Pat” L. LaBelle, 88, died June 1, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Hartford, son of Eli and Ella M. (White) LaBelle.
He attended school in Wilder.
Mr. LaBelle married Harriett M. Grant on Feb. 27, 1933, in White River Junction.
He worked for a farmer on Christian Street and later as a spinner at Hartford Woolen Mill. He operated LaBelle’s Service Station in Wilder for 25 years where he also sold snowmobiles. He then operated the Texaco station in West Lebanon, N.H., for a time and worked as a janitor at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Junction for five years before retiring.
Mr. LaBelle was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and started the Wilder Snowmobile Club.
Survivors include his wife of Wilder; three daughters, Rose Marie West of Indiana, Barbara Ann Bellavance of Wilder and Patricia May Jones of Swanton; a son, Edgar LaBelle Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Elizabeth West of Claremont, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Harry LaBelle, Joseph LaBelle and Edward LaBelle; and four sisters, Stella Roberts, Mildred Davis, Florence Mace and Mabel Mayette.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.
There will be no calling hours.

Sylvia Wiltshire
SPRINGFIELD — Sylvia Wiltshire, 89, died June 1, 2001, at Gill Odd Fellow Home in Ludlow after a long illness.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Francis MacJarrett rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Francis “Tom” MacJarrett, who died May 27, 2001, was held Thursday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where the Burial Office was offered by the Rev. Arthur Kingdon, rector.
Organist was Alan Walker and soloist was Mardi Sargent.
Bearers were Kenneth Lorette, William Lorette, Charles Forrest, Lew Levin, David Shaffe and Richard Watson.
Retired and current employees of Verizon attended the funeral service.
Members of Tucker Lodge 38 conducted the Masonic services on Wednesday evening.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
James D. Fadden Sr.
SOUTH ROYALTON — James D. Fadden Sr., 62, died May 31, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.
He was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Enfield, N.H., son of David W. and Lottie C. (Goodell) Fadden.
He grew up in Lebanon, N.H., and attended Lebanon High School.
Mr. Fadden married Annette Hickory in 1956. He later married Linda Brown in 1976.
He was employed at Cone Blanchard Machine Co. in Windsor and Joy Manufacturing in Claremont, N.H.
Mr. Fadden served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a life member the Disabled American Veterans and Rising Sun Lodge F&AM. He was also a member of the Beth-el Christian Fellowship in South Royalton where he was honorable mayor of the “Veggie Town” Vacation Bible School. Mr. Fadden served as Green-up Day chairman for the past three years in South Royalton.
In spite of a motorcycle accident that left him a quadriplegic and wheelchair bound for the past 17 years, Mr. Fadden could be found nearly every day out collecting recyclables in and around the South Royalton area. He supported the South Royalton sports programs.
Survivors include his wife Linda of South Royalton; four sons, Jim Fadden Jr. of Central Village, Conn., David Fadden of Uncasville, Conn., Wilfred Fadden of Brookline, Conn., and Steven Fadden of Sumter, S.C., where he is serving with the U.S. Air Force; five daughters, Debbie Braley of Lempster, N.H., Wanda “Julie” Day of Claremont, N.H., Lottie Fadden of Charleston, N.H., Ericka Fiegil of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Rebecca Fadden of South Royalton; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Judson Collins of Canaan, N.H.; his former wife, Annette Hickory of Charlestown, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Beth-el Christian Fellowship in South Royalton. Burial will follow in River View Cemetery in South Royalton.

Mavis Gangloff rites
BENNINGTON — Committal services for Mavis Gangloff, who died May 29, 2001, were held Friday in White Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Michael A. Demasi officiating.
Soloist was Monica Murray.
Bearers were Bart Coburn, Richard Ravelin, John Stone Sr., John Stone Jr., Ryan Gangloff and Richard Wyman.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Michael Nemkovich rites
SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for Michael Nemkovich, 86, who died May 29, 2001, was held Friday morning at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Springfield with the Rev. Peter Carmichael, rector, officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
Bearers were Dale Nemkovich, Daryl Nemkovich, Ethan Nemkovich and Victor Baskevich, all of Springfield, Terek Walker of Claremont, N.H., and Larry Currier of Williston.
Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel.
Betty J. Wade rites
READING — The graveside committal service for Betty J. Wade, 56, who died April 6, 2001, was held Friday afternoon in South Reading Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Graffam, pastor of Victory Assembly of God Church in Proctorsville, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel.
Henry G. Yngve
RANDOLPH — Henry G. Yngve, 85, died May 31, 2001, at the Four Seasons in Northfield.
He was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Boston, son of Erick and Matilda (Olson) Yngve.
He married Betty A. Welna on Aug. 31, 1945, in Florida. She died in 1999. They moved to Randolph in 1990.
Mr. Yngve had been employed as a quality control engineer for General Electric Co. and Gould Manufacturing in Ohio.
He enjoyed organic gardening, classical and gospel music, tennis, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Karin Olson of Randolph; a brother, Enock Yngve of New Hampshire; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dagmar Andreson; and a brother, Rudy Yngve.
The graveside service will be held at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Ethel D. Beach
PANTON — Ethel D. Beach, 85, died June 1, 2001, at Briarwood Manor in Vergennes.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1915, in Alburg, daughter of Arthur and Melissa (McDonough) Rogers.
She married Harold L. Beach in 1938.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years of Panton; a son, Charles Beach of Addison; a daughter, Janice Porter of Ferrisburgh; a sister, Helen Grant of Addison; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Lake View Cemetery in West Addison.

Mary Ellen Burpee
ADDISON — Mary Ellen Burpee, 57, died May 31, 2001, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.
She was born May 14, 1944, in Burlington, daughter of William W. and Delna (Piece) Burpee.
She was employed at Addison County Home Health and Hospice.
She was a member of the Addison Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of Addison; a brother, William R. Burpee of Addison; and several cousins.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Addison Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Grand View Cemetery in Addison.
Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes.
