MARY JOYCE COBB

Mary Joyce Cobb, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at the Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans following a long bout with cancer.

Joyce was born in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Charles and Florence (Gleason) Baker.

She was a graduate of the Cathedral High School Class of 1946. On July 21, 1951, she married Kenneth Cobb in St. Patrick's Chapel at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington.

She was predeceased by Ken on Aug. 4, 1996.

Following high school, Joyce went to work for Bell Telephone. She later worked at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington for several years. She had also worked for a number of years as a school bus driver for the Milton School District and continued with Mountain Transit.

Mrs. Cobb had raised six wonderful children and dearly loved her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her children and their spouses, Joanne Jewell and her husband Todd of Sahuarita, Ariz., Carrie Baker and her husband Michael of Milton, David and his wife Beth of Lyndonville, Danny and his wife Janet of Shrewsbury, Ma., Mickey and his wife Cheryl of Milton, and Jeffrey Cobb and his wife Amy of Alburg; by her grandchildren, all of whom she dearly loved, Eric, William, Allison, Danny, Lindsey, Garrett, Jay, Hannah, Ryley, Adam and Aaron; by her brother-in-law Donald Cobb and her sisters-in-law Patricia Pahl and Dorothy King; and by several nieces and nephews.

Joyce touched the lives of many children on her bus routes in the Milton School District.

Mrs. Cobb's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Paul Unger and Ann Gibbons, who took such good care of their mother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Memorials in Joyce's memory may be made to the CVAA/Georgia Meals on Wheels Program, P.O. Box 158, Winooski, Vt. 05404, or to the Home Care Program of the VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Friends may call on the family on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. A wake service will be held Thursday evening at 8 in the Minor Funeral Home.

NEIL E. KING

MILTON -- Neil E. King, 79, of Milton, passed away peacefully Oct. 1, 2001 at VerDelle Village in St. Albans after an extended illness.

Neil was born Dec. 13, 1921 in Fletcher, the son of the late Fred and Charlotte Cox King. Ned was a decorated WWII veteran. He retired with 35 years of service with the Vt. Fish and Game Dept. as an assistant biologist and as the manager of the Sandbar Wildlife Refuge. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed everyone he met.

Neil was a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Milton as well as the DAV and VFW. He was also an active member of the Episcopal Cursillo.

He is survived by his wife, Gail M. King of Milton, and his six children, Stuart and Sheryl King of Burlington, Brenda K. Stewart of Shelburne, Darryl of Gainsville, Va., Kevin of Underhill, Stephen King of Waterville, and Lisa Trkulja and Mike Leavitt of Colchester. Neil had 13 wonderful grandchildren, Shelby, Shawn, and Shannon King and their spouses, Heather Ferrara and William Bartlett and their spouses, Andrew Stewart, Sarah Lawell and her spouse, Darrell and his spouse, Adam, Lia, and Therese King, and Bradley and Brittany Trkulja. He was also fortunate to have eight great-grandchildren. Neil also leaves behind a special step-grandchild, Skye.

He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Wagner of Burlington, Audrey Towne of Milton and his brothers, Delmer of Cambridge, Douglas of East Berkshire, Malcolm of South Hero, Wendell of Milton and Bernard of Maryland. Also, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with burial to follow in Sanderson Corners Cemetery in Fairfax.

Memorial Contributions in Neil's memory may be made to the Vt. Fish and Wildlife Dept. "Waterfowl Fund" 103 S. Main St., Waterbury, Vt. 05671-0501.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Milton.

CLIFFORD J. MARTIN

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Clifford J. Martin, age 79, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2001 in the Holiday House Nursing Home, following a brief illness.

He was born in Winooski March 2, 1922 son of the late Thomas and Irene (Picard) Martin. He married Bernice Shepard on Nov. 27, 1946. Clifford served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed at Union Carbide Consumer Products retiring in 1981. After his retirement he was employed at Holiday House Hursing Home. Clifford was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the American Legion Post #1 of St. Albans. He enjoyed the outdoors and his morning coffee time with his friends, He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots.

His survivors include his wife, Bernice; son, Michael Martin; daughter, Melody Martin; and a granddaughter, Rachel Bilodeau all of St. Albans; a brother, Earl Martin in California; and a sister, Lorraine Splaggin of Essex Jct.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Home, 86 South Main St. from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the Martin family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holiday House Lyceum Fund, 642 Sheldon Rd., St. Albans, Vt. 05478

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

KATHERINE B. (GILLILAN) SHAW

ST. ALBANS/GREENWICH NY -- Katherine Bertha (Gillilan) Shaw, age 71, passed away Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2001, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans.

She was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Fletcher, daughter of the late John Henry and Mable (Hooper) Gillilan. She married Frederick Charles Shaw on Dec. 12, 1946 in Underhill. He predeceased her in 1988.

She was employed for many years with Eveready Battery Company in St. Albans. She was a member of the Binghamville United Methodist Church in Fletcher and a member of the American Legion Post #1 Woman's Auxiliary of St. Albans.

Katherine especially enjoyed he quite times crocheting and loved to make specially crocheted doll clothes for her grandchildren's Barbie Dolls. She loved her family dearly and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She will be greatly missed to all of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by four sons; Charles Shaw and his wife Jacalyn of Bakersfield, Steven Shaw and his wife Debbie of Oklahoma, Eric Shaw and his wife Margaret of N.Y., Scott Shaw and his wife Nila of Swanton; four daughters, Mary Jane Shaw-Gervais and her husband Peter of Enosburg, Rosemary Enders and her husband Bruce of Florida, Diane Pfieffer and her husband George who was Katherine's loving caregiver of Greenwich, N.Y., Lorie Ann Shaw and Fly Ulmer of S.C.; a sister-in-law Mary Shaw Reynolds of Cambridge; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was also predeceased by a son George Leonard Shaw in 2000; two brothers, Roger Gillilan and Howard Gillilan, and a sister Marolyn Tipper.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Binghamville United Methodist Church in Fletcher on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Katherine's memory to Binghamville United Methodist Church c/o Charles Tinker-Treas, 629 Fairfax Road, Cambridge, Vt. 05444 Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St. Fairfax.

ERICA LYNN THELEN

ST. ALBANS - Erica Lynn Thelen, 32, a resident of St. Albans for the past 3 1/2 years, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center.

She was born June 11, 1969, in Farmington Hills, Mich., the daughter of Robert and Harriette (Patterson) Schneider.

On June 1, 1996, Erica married Chad Thelen in Northville, Mich. She had been employed as a Medical Assistant at Northwestern Medical Center until her illness caused her to stop working.

Erica enjoyed horses, ice skating and walking her Great Dane "Bogie."

In addition to her husband, Chad, survivors include her mother, Harriette Schneider of Anchorage, Alaska; her father, Robert Schneider of Lawrence Michigan; her paternal grandfather, Harold Schneider of Florida; her sister and brother-in-law, Veronica and Jacob Hazen of Claremont, Calif.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Jeannette Thelen of Westphalia, Mich.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

WAYNE J. MOSSEY

MILTON - Wayne J. Mossey, 64, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Wayne was born in Burlington, Vt. on June 7, 1937, the son of Louis and Geraldine (Gordon) Mossey.

He had worked for many years at Flynn's Autobody in Connecticut before moving back to Vermont in 1981.

Wayne was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton, of the Milton Arrowhead Eagles Club 4218, and of the AARP.

He is survived by his children, Michael Mossey of Pass Christian, Miss.; Karen Bobee and her husband, Ron of Enfield, Conn., Nancy Luton and her husband Clyde III of Virginia Beach, Va. Barbara Coleman of St. Albans, and Steven Mossey of Pass Christian, Miss; by his grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Melissa, Joshua, Brittany, Emily, and Hunter; by his former wife, Maryrose Desautels of Windsor, Conn.; his brothers and sisters, Louis of Colchester, Dale of Starksboro, Anita Chaplin of Virginia, Marjorie Primiture of White River Junction, Richard of Milton, James of Georgia, Linda Borthwick of Winooski, and Eric of Fletcher; by his aunt, Margaret Gordon of Milton; and by several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth, Gordon, Jackie and Gerald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Main Street in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Vt. Affiliate, 12 Hurricane Lane, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05495. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

JOHN F. MEEHAN

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz./FRANKLIN, Vt. - John F. Meehan a 30-year resident of Scottsdale, Ariz. and recently a resident of Franklin, Vt. passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

John was born in Syracuse, N.Y., April 4, 1917, the son of the late John F. Meehan and Mary (Barkum) Meehan. He attended schools in Syracuse and on Oct. 3, 1942 married the former Virginia (Bowen) Meehan. John worked as a insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life until his retirement and was resident of Scottsdale, Ariz. for more than 30 years.

John faithfully served his country in the United States Army during W.W.II and was assigned to the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW, Post 3513 and American Legion, Post 44 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, of Franklin, he leaves two daughters Valerie Lloyd and her husband Shane of Franklin, Cheryl Hewitson and her husband Daniel of Tucson, Ariz. and a sister Mary Frey of Phoenix, Ariz.

John was predeceased by a brother, Albert Meehan and a sister Ann Locklin.

There will be no calling hours and a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the convenience of the family from the St. Louis Church on Lamkin St. in Highgate Center. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist.

Gifts in John's memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont, 05478 and/or the Veterans Of Foreign Wars, 353 Lake St. St. Albans, Vt. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton, Vt.
