Iris C. Bevins
Iris C. Bevins, 84, of Rutland, died Feb. 9, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, where she had lived for the past year.
She was born in St. Albans on July 31, 1916, the daughter of John Ray and Maude Garrity Chappel of Swanton.
Mrs. Bevins graduated from Swanton High School in 1933 and attended Albany Business College.
She was employed for 17 years at Tambrands of Rutland before her retirement in 1980.
She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Bevins is survived by three daughters, Deborah Schweizer, Donna Godette and Nancy Wennberg, all of the Rutland area; a sister, Avis Barrette of Webster, N.Y., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton Wednesday at 1 p.m.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society, Stevens Road, Pittsford, 05763.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Charlotte B. Bullock
Charlotte B. Bullock, 85, died Feb. 11, 2001, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.
She was born in Rutland May 22, 1915, the daughter of William H. and Nellie (Shortsleeve) Foster
She attended Rutland city schools.
She married Charles A. Bullock in Whitehall, N.Y., in 1932. He died in 1980.
Mrs. Bullock was employed by Rosenbflatt’s Dress Factory and later performed private nursing duty.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church.
Survivors include a son, William C. Bullock of Rutland; a daughter, Beverly A. Loso of West Rutland; a sister, Arlene Dutelle of Rutland; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Dr. Daniel M. Foley, whom she helped raise.
She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Gloria Towle; three brothers, Donald Foster, George Foster and Lawrence Foster; and three sisters, Virginia Caligiuri, Mabel Adams and Ethel Derby.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church. Private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Peter J. Oscielowski Rites
WEST RUTLAND — A funeral service for Peter J. Oscielowski, 79, who died Feb. 8, 2001, was held Saturday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. The Rev. Frank S. Warzocha, pastor, officiated. Entombment followed in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, with burial to follow at a later date.
Dorothy Blicharz was organist for the church choir.
Ministers of the altar were Henry Poplaski and Leo Haick.
Bearers were John P. Oscielowski, Thomas Hogan, Christopher Hogan, Stephen Hawley, Jake Duprey and Dennis Hayward.
A prayer service was held Saturday at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Warzocha.
Lloyd W. Bronson Sr.
Lloyd W. Bronson Sr., 81, died Feb. 10, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland after a long illness.
He was born April 19, 1919, in Bridport, the son of Horace and Alice (Myrick) Bronson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served throughout the European Theater and North Africa.
After the war, he returned home, and in 1950 he established Bronson’s Boat Shop on Lake Bomoseen in Hydeville. He operated the shop until his retirement in 1982.
Along with his love for boats, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry.
Mr. Bronson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 49 of Fair Haven.
He is survived by three daughters, Diane Jamieson of Hydeville, Shannon Taylor of Bomoseen and Kathleen Taylor of Interlachen, Fla.; four sons, Lloyd W. Bronson Jr. and William R. Bronson, both of Hydeville, Dennis M. Bronson of Castleton and Kevin H. Bronson of Vernon; a sister, Thelma LaRocque of Bridport; four brothers, Malcolm Bronson, Bernard Bronson and Thad Bronson, all of Bridport, and Horace Bronson Jr. of Burlington; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Burt) Bronson, who died in 1995, and by a brother, Wymond Bronson, who died in 2000.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Durfee Funeral home in Fair Haven. The Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of the First Congregational Church, UCC, of Fair Haven, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery in Castleton, with full military honors.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.

Mrs. Eastman Rites
SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for Norma T. Eastman, 81, of Springfield, who died Feb. 8, 2001, at the Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center, was held Saturday afternoon in the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
Quint Eastman of Springfield, a grandson, officiated.
A private family burial service will take place in the Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
Claude R. Beckwith Sr.
BENNINGTON — Claude R. Beckwith Sr., 59, of Bennington, died Feb. 10, 2001, at his home, following a long illness.
He was born at the family home in North Adams, Mass., March 8, 1941, the son of Clarence A. and Mabel E. (Rowley) Beckwith.
He grew up in Adams, Mass., and attended schools there.
He married Judith A. Brooks in Conway, S.C., on July 10, 1959.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962.
Mr. Beckwith was a driver for Quinn Freight Lines and later became a salesman for Fairbanks Express and for Sweeney Transportation Co. He retired in November.
He was a past president of the Berkshire Country Transportation Association, the Capital District Transportation Association, the Northeast Motor Corporation Association, the Berkshire County Shrine Club, and Zefder Shrine Club of Bennington, the Bennington Club; a former member of the Cairo Temple; a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 996 of North Adams; a member of American Legion Post 13 of Bennington and a life member of Melha Temple of Springfield, Mass.
He played Santa Claus for many years at children’s Christmas parties.
In recent years he devoted much of his time to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church through its music program and as a member of the governing board.
Mr. Beckwith was first constable in Bennington.
He is survived by his wife; his stepmother, M. Louise Beckwith of Hollywood, Fla.; three sons, Claude R. “Chip” Beckwith Jr. of Pownal, Scott E. Beckwith of Burlington and Daniel J. Beckwith of Ashland, Mass.; a daughter, Patricia A. Beckwith of Plymouth, Mass.; two brothers, Clarence Beckwith Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Lucius R. Beckwith of Lee, Mass., six grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Brian, who died in 1995.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington with the Rev. Glen Bayly, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The members of American Legion Post 13 of Bennington will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. to conduct services.

Maureen Pettigrew
BENNINGTON — Funeral services for Maureen Pettigrew of Bennington, who died Feb. 8, 2001, were held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Saturday. The Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial was offered by the Rev. William H. Kelley, associate pastor.
Organist was Donald McMahon, and soloist was Monica A. Murray.
Bearers were Michael Corr, Patrick Corr, Charles Corr, Bernard LaBarge, Louis Wolf and Ronald Olson.
A prayer service was held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceding the funeral mass.
A remembrance gathering for family and friends was held at VFW Post 1332 following the funeral mass.
Entombment took place in Park Lawn Chapel.
The Rev. Kelley offered the vigil service at the funeral home Friday evening. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1861 and VFW Post 1332 Auxiliary offered their services Friday evening at the funeral home.
Esther W. Moffitt
READSBORO — Mrs. Esther W. Moffitt, 84, of Readsboro, died Feb. 10, 2001, at North Adams (Mass.) Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Tinmouth July 11, 1916, the daughter of Frank J. and Lovina (Lanfair) Carpenter.
She received her education in Tinmouth and Bennington.
She married Lewis M. Moffitt Sr. Aug. 21, 1956, in White Creek, N.Y. He died in 1994.
In earlier years, Mrs. Moffitt was employed as a chambermaid at various motels. She later worked at the Readsboro Chair Co., from which she retired.
She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Survivors include a son, Lewis M. Moffitt Jr. of Manchester; a brother, Hudson Carpenter of Wells; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the family lot in Heartwellville Cemetery in Readsboro at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Tony Avitable
BRIDGEWATER — Tony Avitable, 91, died at his home Feb. 10, 2001.
Arrangements are pending with the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
Robert S. Boyce
WINDSOR — Robert Sheridan Boyce, 82, died Feb. 10, 2001, at Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center Extended Care Facility in Windsor.
He was born in Waterbury Aug. 22, 1918, the son of Sheridan G. and Mary (Maxwell) Boyce.
Mr. Boyce graduated from Waterbury High School in 1938.
On Sept. 29, 1943, he married Helen Chapman in Barre.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1982, he retired from the Cone-Blanchard Machine Tool Co. of Windsor after 37 years of service.
He was a member of Winooski Lodge 49 in Waterbury; a member and Past Commander of Vermont Commandery 4, Knights Templar in Windsor; a Past High Priest of Windsor Chapter 6, RAM; a member and Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Windsor Council 8, R&SM; a member and Past Patron of Ascutney Chapter 2, OES; a member of the Past Matrons and Patrons of Windsor, Noble of Mount Sinai Temple, AAONMS, Montpelier; a member and past president of the Windsor Coon Hunters Club; a member of the National Rifle Association; and a member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor.
Mr. Boyce is survived by his wife of Ascutney; a son, Warren Boyce of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter, Sherrill Gould of Windsor; a brother, James Boyce of Waterbury Center; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor with the Rev. Carter Adriance, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor today from 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
