Florence Sain rites
NORTH SPRINGFIELD - The funeral service for Florence G. Sain, 69, who died Feb. 3, 2001, was held Wednesday at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Chuck Tyree of Greenfield, Mass., officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Personal remarks were given by Barbara Harris Austin, her daughter and Keith Hemmingway and Brian Hemmingway, her sons.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Beatrice F. Struthers rites
BRATTLEBORO - The funeral for Beatrice "Bea" F. Struthers, 73, who died Feb. 3, 2001, was held Wednesday at First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro with the Rev. Dennis Roth, pastor, officiating. Interment was in West Brattleboro Cemetery with burial and committal services to be held at a later date in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro.
Organist was Ellen Hamilton. Scriptural readings and the prayer of invocation were given by the Rev. Roth. Eulogy and words of remembrance were also given by the pastor. Memories and tributes were shared by several attending the service. Benediction was given by the Rev. Roth.
A reception hosted by the Ladies of First Congregational Church was held in the church's hall following the service.
Pallbearers were Clarence Struthers, a nephew, Brian Lenkowski, a grandson, Edward Struthers and Leonard Jerome, both cousins, Stephen Simmons, a grandson-in-law and Sam Haskins.
Delegations attending the service included members of the Hill'N Dale Homemakers Club, the Brattleboro Senior Singers, members of Brattleboro High School Class of 1945 and past employees from the BookPress of Brattleboro.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
Frank D. Clifford
RANDOLPH - Frank D. Clifford, 92, died Feb. 4, 2001, at his daughter's home in Avon Park.
He was born Nov. 3, 1908, in Kennington, Kent, England, son of Edwin and Alice (Shorter) Clifford.
Mr. Clifford married Vernita Parrady on July 18, 1934, in Springfield, Mass. She died in 1999.
He had been a master electrician and part owner of Baun Electric in Hartford, Conn.
He had lived in Newington, Hartford, and Glastonberry, Conn., and for the past 24 years spent winters in Florida and summers in Randolph Center.
Mr. Clifford spent two years of missionary service in California prior to his marriage and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in South Royalton.
Survivors include two sons, Frank D. Clifford Jr. of Leesburg, Fla., and Ralph Clifford of Jonesborough, Tenn.; five daughters, Dorothy Goodall of Avon Park, Fla., Marilyn Alden of Amston, Conn., Vernita Barone of Clinton, Conn., Valerie Knowlton of Orlando, Fla., and Faith Pillbrook of Columbia, Conn.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in May at the church with burial in Randolph Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home.
Marie L. Hornbeck
MIDDLEBURY - Marie L. Hornbeck, 83, died Feb. 7, 2001, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.
She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Orwell, daughter of John and Grace (Underwood) McIntyre.
She was a lifelong resident of Addison County and a member of the United Methodist Church of Middlebury.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald C. Hornbeck and Edward J. Hornbeck, both of Whiting, and James E. Hornbeck of Hubbardton; three daughters, Patricia M. Hornbeck of Cornwall, Mickey M. Hornbeck-Fielder of St. Johnsbury and Janice L. MacIntyre of Essex Junction; a sister, Sue Flanagan of Middlebury; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hornbeck in 1979; and three grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Middlebury United Methodist Church, North Pleasant Street, Middlebury.

Claire E. Weinreber
Claire E. Weinreber, 70, died Feb. 8, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1930, in West Rutland, daughter of E. Clare and Clara (Bowker) Weinreber.
She graduated from West Rutland High School and the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing and received her certification of registered nurse anesthetist from St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass.
Miss Weinreber was a former resident of Danbury, Conn., where worked at Danbury Hospital for many years, retiring in 1991.
She enjoyed traveling the world.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Olive Weinreber of West Rutland and Arvilla Weinreber of Rutland; a nephew, Robert Weinreber of Queens, N.Y.; and three nieces, Linda Barker of Wallingford, Marcia Weinreber of West Rutland and Melissa Ramos of Warren, N.J.
There will be no funeral service. The graveside service will be held at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.
There will be no calling hours.

Peter J. Oscielowski
WEST RUTLAND - Peter J. Oscielowski, 79, died Feb. 8, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 29, 1921, in West Rutland, son of John and Mary (Guardyak) Oscielowski.
Mr. Oscielowski was a self-employed farmer and worked at Vermont Marble Co. for many years.
He attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Wood) Oscielowski of West Rutland; a son, John P. Oscielowski of West Rutland; three daughters, Pauline Hogan of Proctor, Sandra Gragen of Perkinsville and Joan Hogan of Rutland Town; a brother, Frank Oscielowski of West Rutland; a sister, Jane Jakubiak of West Rutland; three stepdaughters, Carol Hawley of Rutland, Janet Hayward of Fair Haven and Nancy Boynton of West Rutland; five grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Stella (Geryk) Oscielowski, who died in 1982; and a brother, Edward Oscielowski, who died in 1986.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home.

May Brown
WELLS - May Brown died Feb. 8, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, N.Y.
John R. White
WALLINGFORD - John "Jack" R. White, 63, died Feb. 7, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 13, 1937, in Wallingford, son of J. Gordon and Rhoda Lillian (Randall) White.
He was raised in Morrisville, Pa., graduating from the Pennsbury High School in Fallsington, Pa., and Millersville State College.
Mr. White married Dawn Hufford on Oct. 10, 1959, in Akron, Pa.
For many years Mr. White lived in Lititz, Pa., and worked at Ephrata High School, where he was a biology teacher and football and tennis coach until retiring after 34 years of teaching. After his retirement, Mr. White relocated to Wallingford in 1993. While in Wallingford he worked at the Tinmouth Game Farm and as course ranger for the Okemo Valley Golf Club.
He was a member of the Wallingford Congregational Church.
He enjoyed reading, playing golf, bird hunting and cross-country skiing.
Survivors include his wife of Wallingford; two daughters, Wendy Schmid of Lititz, Pa., and Jody Nyctea of Olympia, Wash.; two sons, Randall C. White of Westboro, Mass., and J. Tobin White of Mariposa, Calif.; a twin sister, Judy White of Yardley, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wallingford Congregational Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.
There will be no calling hours.

Gordon Bartholomew
WHITEHALL, N.Y. - Gordon Bartholomew, 82, died Feb. 8, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vt.
He was born March 8, 1918, in Whitehall, son of Augustus and Erva (Scott) Bartholomew Sr.
He graduated from Whitehall High School.
He married Dorothy Harris on May 17, 1942, at her family's home in Whitehall. They resided in Fort Edward for many years.
Mr. Bartholomew was a signal man for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad from 1937 until his retirement in 1978.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served overseas for three years.
Mr. Bartholomew was a member of the Whitehall United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 83, Phoenix Lodge 96 and the Free and Accepted Masons and was a member and past president of the Whitehall Rotary Club.
Survivors include a son, Donald Bartholomew of Castleton, Vt.; a daughter, Joan Carmichael of Novi, Mich.; four granddaughters and two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, who died in 1985; and a brother, Augustus Bartholomew Jr.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, N.Y., with the Rev. C. Don Wheeler officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Clemons Cemetery in Clemons.
Friends may call Saturday from 1 p.m. to the time of the service at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the funeral home by Phoenix Lodge 96, Free and Accepted Masons.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Whitehall United Methodist Church, New Parsonage Fund, 56 Greenmount Cemetery Lane, Whitehall, 12887.

Carl Patenaude
LONDONDERRY - Carl Patenaude of Londonderry, Vt., died in San Antonio, Texas, on February 1, 2001.
He was born June 21, 1924, in Massena, N.Y., son of Joseph and Ruth (Fulton) Patenaude. Carl was the oldest of six children. He had four brothers, Frederick, Gerald, Phillip and Maurice. He also had one sister, Betty.
Carl married Myrtle Schmeizle on September 14, 1955, in Rome, N.Y. She died October 16, 1999. They had four children, Sherry Saddler, Gary Patenaude, Kelly Townsend and Valerie Doane. They also had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carl graduated from Watertown High School, N.Y., in 1943. He then worked as company clerk at the Watertown New York National Guard Armory.
He served in the U.S. Army and the Coast Guard. He also worked in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Carl retired in 1974 after working as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Air Force where he held the rank of GS-11. After retiring he moved to Londonderry, Vt., and worked part time at local businesses like the Weston Marketplace and R&D Mobile.
Carl was a friendly and caring person, and will be sorely missed.
