Linda S. Gallagher
Linda Sue Gallagher, 47, died Jan. 29, 2001, at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H.
She was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Summit, N.J., daughter of Jerald Gallagher and Betty (Bim) Gallagher-Choquette.
She graduated from Rutland High School in 1971 and Castleton State College.
She was a manager of various restaurants in Rutland and Killington and also owned and operated Crafts, Corks and Candy.
Survivors include her father of Tucson, Ariz.; her mother of Rutland; a sister, Dianne Freunscht of Derry, N.H.; a brother, Douglas Gallagher of Kennebunk, Maine; a sister, Wendy Mullaney of Quincy, Mass.; a longtime companion, Joe Strella of Enfield, N.H.; an uncle; a niece and a nephew; and many cousins.
There will be an open gathering for friends and family Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at 72 Edgerton St.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mary O. Gravelle
Mary O. Gravell, 82, of Rutland, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Rutland, daughter of Frederick and Pearl (Lancour) Fredette.
She worked at Eden Park Nursing Home and later at the Rut-land hospital as a food service supervisor for 35 years before retiring.
Mrs. Gravelle was a member of St. Peter Church and the Legion of Mary. She was a volunteer with the Rutland Senior Volunteer Program and the Meals on Wheels program at the Bardwell House.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Duprey of Portland, Maine; two sons, Michael F. Gravelle of Rutland and Edward J. Gravelle of White River Junction; a sister, Ernestine Fredette of Maryland; two brothers, Paul Fredette of North Clarendon and Joseph Fredette of Rutland; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Gravelle, who died in 1981; and a sister, Marjorie Healy.
The funeral will be held Saturday at noon at St. Peter Church. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral home, 44 North Main St., Rutland.

James A. Moran rites
The funeral for James A. Moran, 81, who died Jan. 28, 2001, was held Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with the Rev. William Laliberte, officiating. Burial followed in East Clarendon Cemetery.
Organist was Richard Brown and vocalist was Lois Jacubetz. Reader and minister of the altar was Charles LaChance.
Bearers were Harold Fish of Pittsford, Joseph Squier of North Clarendon, Ralph Darrah of Rochester, and Paul Crossman and James Selleck, both of Rutland.
A prayer service was held Wednesday at the Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Laliberte.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Manuel Gonzales rites
The funeral service for Manuel "Manny" Gonzales, 58, of Rutland, who died Jan. 27, 2001, was held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, associate pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, officiating.
Words of remembrance were offered by his wife, Maria Gonzales. A poem was read by his daughter, Christine Gonzales.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Mary Pawlusiak rites
WEST RUTLAND - The funeral for Mary Smyrski Pawlusiak, 89, who died Jan. 30, 2001, at Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care, was held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in West Rutland with the Rev. Frank S. Warzocha, pastor, officiating. Interment followed with burial to be held at a later date in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Ministers of the altar were Joseph H. Czachor and Leo Kulig. Organist was Dorothy Blicharz accompanied by the church choir. Reader was Lorraine Davis.
Bearers were Richard Poczobut of Castleton, Thomas Poczobut and Francis Pawlusiak of Ira, Richard Smyrski of Rutland, and Jeffrey Poczobut and Robert Smyrski of West Rutland.
Prayer services were held Wednesday evening at Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Warzocha.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Barbara E. Putnam
ACWORTH, N.H. - Barbara E. Putnam, 83, died Feb. 1, 2001, at Langdon Place in Keene.
She was born July 22, 1917, in West Newbury, Mass., daughter of Charles and Grace (Sargent) Fowler.
She graduated from West Newbury High School in 1935 and Keene State Teacher's College in Keene in 1940.
She married Harvey Putnam on June 28, 1941. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Putnam taught school at Belmont High School and Sarah Porter Elementary School in Langdon.
She was a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Putnam Davis of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; three sons, John H. Putnam of Palisade, Colo., Daniel W. Putnam of Charlestown and Brian Putnam of Gilsum; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Hazel (Fowler) Morris; and a brother, Chester Fowler.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Acworth Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Acworth Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sarah Porter School Parent Group, in care of Lynn Phillips, RR1 120B, Langdon, 03602.

Helen S. Read rites
EAST DORSET - The funeral service for Helen S. Read, 81, who died Jan. 28, 2001, was held Thursday afternoon at the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center with the Rev. Larry Jenney, pastor of the East Dorset Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Factory Point Cemetery Vault with burial to take place at a later date in the South Village Cemetery in East Dorset.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Smith, Charles Becker, Ted Hopkins, James Spofford, Doug Beebe and David Beebe.
Attending the service and representing several different fire prevention and training organizations from around the state were the Vermont State Firefighters Association, the Vermont State Fire Service Training and the East Dorset Fire Department.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral and Cremation Service of Manchester Center.
Alice B. Johnston rites
SPRINGFIELD - The funeral service for Alice B. Johnston, 76, who died Jan. 28, 2001, at her home, was held Thursday afternoon at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Ron Sherwin, her son-in-law and pastor of the Pittsfield Federated Church, officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Organist was Sarah McQuarrie.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Mary B. Swerbenski
ALBANY, N.Y. - Mary Barrett Swerbenski, 82, died Feb. 2, 2001 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital.
She was born in Windsor, Vt., daughter of Charles and Elsie (Proctor) Barrett.
She graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in Rutland, Vt., and trained as a baby nurse in Troy.
She married Philip F. Swerbenski on Oct. 20, 1940. He died in 1960.
Mrs. Swerbenski was employed by the State of New York Department of Tax and Finance where she was a principal account clerk for 20 years before retiring.
She was active in Good Sports, American Woman's Voluntary Services and the American Red Cross. She was also active in the Art Club of Fair Haven, Vt., and a volunteer at the Nelson House in Albany.
Survivors include a son, William C. Swerbenski of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia B. Labbe of Albany; a sister, Esther P. Bragg of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, John P. Barrett and Charles F. Barrett, both of Rutland, Vt.; a cousin; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Martin P. Swerbenski.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, and at Our Lady of Angels Church in Albany at 11 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lila M. Hodge
CLARENDON - Lila M. Place Hodge, 93, died Feb. 1, 2001, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born May 19, 1907, in Rawsonville, daughter of Geroge W. and Flora E. (Robbins) Place.
She attended schools in Tyson, Cavendish and Springfield.
She married William F. Hodge on Jan. 9, 1924, in Bellows Falls.
Mrs. Hodge had been employed by Gay Brothers Mill in Cavendish, Taylor Ties in Chester and Ludlow, the Westminster Post Office as the first mail clerk and the Springfield Hospital as a nurse's aid. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a nurse's aid at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home for several years.
She was a member of the Rutland Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, indoor flowers and sewing.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Boyd of Hemet, Calif.; a son, William Hodge of North Clarendon; two sisters, Luella Butler of Proctorsville and Ruth Prouty of Beaver, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-granddaughter; a cousin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1955; a daughter, Hilda Day; four sisters, Bessie Wheeler, Ana Spaulding, Mary Wilson and Lillian Considine; and two brothers, Edwin Place and George Place.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont, N.H.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

BRANDON - Dr. Fletcher Howard White, 88, died Feb. 1, 2001, at Exeter Hospital in Exeter, N.H.
