Leonard F. Wood
WHITE CREEK, N.Y. - Leonard F. Wood, 61, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 14, 1939, in Wallingford, the son of Albert and Ethel (Underwood) Wood.
He grew up in Danby and attended Wallingford schools.
Mr. Wood served in the U.S. Army.
He married Marie Stroffoleno on July 4, 1959, in East Arlington. She died in 1987.
Mr. Wood worked as a logger, drove log trucks, worked as a carpenter and later established his own business, Len Wood Construction.
He was a member of Arlington American Legion Post 69 and was a past member of the Arlington Lions Club.
Mr. Wood enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. He also enjoyed racing as a modified stock car driver and during the 1960s he was the Vermont state champion for three consecutive years.
He had coached and played on the Arlington town baseball team during the 1960s.
Survivors include his son, Donald Wood of Rutland; two daughters, Debbie Mone of Shaftsbury and Leah Wood of Cambridge, N.Y.; five brothers, Ronnie Wood of Westminster Station, Russell Wood of Leicester, Doug Wood of Danby, David Wood of Fair Haven and Albert Wood of Louisa, Va.; four sisters, Norma Parker of Middletown Springs, Natalie Martelle of Tinmouth, Anna Geren of Chester and Carol Bourn of West Pawlet; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dannie Wood, in 1993 and by a sister, Barbara Cressy, in 1988.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington, with the Rev. Joan N. O'Gorman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

John C. Tifft
BENNINGTON - John C. Tifft, 77, a resident of the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 7, 1923, in West Rupert, the son of Charles and Elsie (Butler) Tifft.
He married Marilyn Gibbs on Feb. 10, 1945, in Rochester. She died in 1983.
Mr. Tifft served in the U.S. Army.
He worked at Cushman Manufacturing Co., Green Mountain Furniture and National Hanger, all in North Bennington.
Mr. Tifft enjoyed reading.
Survivors include five daughters, Linda Hill and Rebecca Gratz, both of Bennington, Grace Martin, Dorothy Capen and Cheryl Sharkey, all of Pownal; two sons, Michael Tifft of Pownal and David Tifft of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert and Charles Tifft, both of Arlington, and William and Francis Tifft, both of Florida; a sister, Eleanor Perry of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Lebert of Harvest Christian Ministries officiating. Burial will be in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland.
Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Stanley R. Stone Sr.
BENNINGTON - Stanley R. Stone Sr., 56, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died Jan. 21, 2001, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 15, 1944, in Bennington, the son of William and Margaret (Crapeau) Stone.
He attended school in Bennington.
Mr. Stone worked at Union Carbide Corp. for 19 years.
He enjoyed working on cars and playing video games.
Survivors include a daughter, Nannette L. Trombley of Hoosick Falls; a son, Stanley R. Stone Jr. of Hoosick Falls; three brothers, William M. Stone of Berlin, N.Y., Ralph Stone of Florida and Vernon Tyrell of Troy, N.Y.; two sisters, Ruth Hathaway of Stillwater, N.Y., and Gladys Tifft of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James Tyrell and Clifford Tyrell.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington. Burial will be held in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles L. Veysey Rites
SPRINGFIELD - The funerals for Charles Lee Veysey, 91, who died Jan. 15, 2001, were held Thursday at the Addison Community Church with the Rev. Daryle Cook, pastor, officiating and Friday at Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor of the Springfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield at a later date.
Bearers were Albert Gebo, Larry Gebo, John Burgey, Peter Smith, Bob Smith, Peter Whittemore and Lee Veysey Jr.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
Mary I. Benson Rites
MANCHESTER - A memorial Mass for Mary Irene Benson, 75, who died Dec. 26, 2000, was held Jan. 20, 2001, at St. Paul's Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Julian LaFlamme, pastor, officiating. Burial of her cremains will be held in the spring in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village.
Organist was Joseph Sourdiffe.
Mickey A. Goodrich Rites
MANCHESTER CENTER - A funeral service for Mickey Alvarrow Goodrich, 56, who died Jan. 16, 2001, was held Jan. 20, 2001, at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester, with the Rev. Larry Jenney officiating.
Honorary bearers were a son, Michael Goodrich; a nephew, Shawn Goodrich, and David Dorr.
Members of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles conducted a service before the funeral.
Private committal of Mr. Goodrich's cremains will be held later.
Arrangements were under the direction of Brewster Funeral Service.
Patricia A. Webb
MIDDLEBURY - Patricia Ann Webb, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of John E. and Kathryn (Silconas) Karr.
She graduated from Clifton High School in New Jersey, and attended a year of business school.
She married Stephen H. Webb on Oct. 9, 1954, in Glen Rock, N.J. They moved to Middlebury in 1981.
Mrs. Webb worked for Middlebury College as an administrative assistant in the external affairs department from 1981 until she retired in 1999.
She enjoyed traveling, birds and gardening.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Paul Webb of Lincoln and Stephen R. Webb of Middlebury; a brother, J. Richard Karr of Ligonier, Pa., and two grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John McDermott, pastor, officiating. A graveside service will be held in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Noreen F. Halpin
MIDDLEBURY - Noreen F. Halpin, 84, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001.
She was born April 15, 1916, in Danby, the daughter of Milton L. and Nora (Dwyer) Force.
She was raised in Brandon and graduated from Brandon High School in 1935. She later attended secretarial school in Boston, Mass.
She married John H. Halpin in 1948 in Brandon. He died in 1967.
Mrs. Halpin had worked at Crosby Insurance Agency in Brandon and also worked on the family farm. She worked as an insurance underwriter for the Hubbard Agency in Middlebury, retiring in the early 1980s.
She volunteered for the Middlebury Boosters, RSVP, the Middlebury Community House and worked bingo at Helen Porter Nursing Home. She was the guest hostess of the Hadley House at Middlebury College. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury and the Catholic Daughters.
Mrs. Halpin was an avid sports fan, attending both Middlebury High School and college athletics events. She was also an avid Red Sox fan.
She enjoyed baking and canning foods.
Survivors include a son, John P. Halpin of Vergennes; two daughters, Jane H. Durant of Brandon and Christine A. Halpin of Middlebury; a granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Leo, and by three sisters, Mary, Peg and Helen.
The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John McDermott, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall. A graveside service will be held in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.

Mary A. Horvath
Mary "Toni" Horvath, 75, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Rutland, daughter of Charles and Jane (Cioffi) Ricci.
She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1943.
She married Arthur F. Hor-vath on June 10, 1951, at St. Peter Church.
Mrs. Horvath was a member of St. Peter Church and a volunteer at Rutland City Schools during her children's school years. She was also a former Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband of Rutland; a son, Edward A. Horvath of Mendon; three daughters, Marianne Connor and Janie Horvath, both of Rutland, and Martha Pockette of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Charles V. Ricci of Rutland; two sisters, Johanna "Jean" Kelly of Rutland and Lucille McNulty of Manchester; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Church with the Rev. John Herbert, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

E. Peter Robare
E. Peter Robare, 84, died Jan. 31, 2001, at his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Ausable Forks, N.Y., son of Moses P. and Jeannette (Hood) Robare.
Mr. Robare received his diplomas from Syracuse University and Pratt Institute of Art and Design in New York City.
He married Mary-Susan Berry in 1949 in Durham, N.C. She died in 1986.
He worked for the American Standard Co. in Louisville, Ky., as an industrial designer for 20 years.
Mr. Robare was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.
He was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Survivors include three sons, Philip L. Robare of Chicago, Theodore F. Robare of Rutland and Christopher E. Robare of Winchester, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Andrew P. Robare, who died in 1968.
The memorial service will be held at a later date at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
