Paul Jurnak
GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Paul Jurnak, 73, died Jan. 20, 2001, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Granville, the son of Andrew and Anna (Dominick) Jurnak.
He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.
Mr. Jurnak retired after 26 years of service with the New York State Corrections Department He was a former employee of Telescope Furniture Co., and owned and operated a slate quarry with his brothers.
He was a communicant of the All Saints Church, and enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Arlene (White) Jurnak; one son, Gary Jurnak of Granville; one daughter, Paula Wax of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Edward Jurnak of Poultney; one sister, Rose Marchinkoski of Hampton; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are eight brothers, John Jurnak, George Jurnak, Andy Jurnak, Joseph Jurnak, Steve Jurnak, Frank Jurnak, Peter Jurnak and Michael Jurnak; and three sisters, Anna Baker, Mary Jurnak and Susan Jurnak.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Thomas Zelker will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. in Granville.

Lillie F. Laaksonen
PROCTOR - Lillie F. Laaksonen, 84, died Jan. 19, 2001, at the Genesis Elder Care Mountain View Center in Rutland. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
Harold L. Mills
FLORENCE - Harold L. Mills, 88, died Jan. 19, 2001, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury. Funeral arrangements are pending for Tuesday at the Pittsford Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. The Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford is in charge of arrangements.
Lettie G. Ricketts
DANBY - Lettie G. Ricketts, 84, of Danby, died Jan. 20, 2001, at her home.
She was born May 4, 1916, the daughter of Myron and Eva (Phillips) Sherman. She was a long-time resident of Danby, and for many years ran a farm with her husband.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Asil Ricketts of Danby; four daughters, Rose Morris of Goshen, Martha Ricketts, Ella Easter and Sarah Ricketts, all of Danby; four sons, Albert Ricketts of Tinmouth, Harrison Ricketts of Chittenden, Daniel Ricketts and Frank Ricketts, both of Danby; two brothers, Arthur Sherman and Edward Sherman, both of Tinmouth; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Doreen Ricketts; three sisters, Goldie Bushman, Beatrice Smith and Nellie Bushee; and two brothers, Harry Sherman and Russell Sherman; are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallingford Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at the Danby-Scottsville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Joseph John Ronzo
BRADFORD - Funeral services for Joseph John Ronzo, 80, of 681 Upper Rogers Rd., were held Friday at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford. Mr. Ronzo died Jan. 15, 2001, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. The Rev. Philip Parent and the Rev. Martin Fors officiated. Kenneth Tucker delivered the eulogy. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art." Burial was at the Upper Plain Cemetery in Bradford. The Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain in Bradford, was in charge of arrangements.
Laverne Spencer
RUTLAND - Laverne Gallagher Spencer, 80, of Rutland, died Saturday at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in West Rutland June 26, 1920, the daughter of Dennis F. and Loretta (Kerrigan) Gallagher.
Mrs. Spencer was a graduate of West Rutland High School.
She was employed by Tampax Inc. in Rutland for several years, and later by the Rutland public schools' hot lunch program.
Mrs. Spencer was a member of Christ the King Church.
Surviving is a sister, Anne G. Sheridan of Rutland; two nephews, the Rev. William P. Gallagher, pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock and John F. Gallagher of Harrisburg, Penn.; three nieces, Patricia Sheridan Cusimano and husband Rex and daughters Kristin and Beth of South Hero, Vt., Kathy Sheridan Colomb of Vergennes, Vt., Diane Gallagher Buonagario and husband David of Scotia, N.Y. and several grand-nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Christ the King Church. Officiating will be her nephew, the Rev. William P. Gallagher, pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock. Entombment will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery in West Rutland, with burial there at a later date.
Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Geraldine K. Taylor
RUTLAND - Geraldine K. Taylor, 81, died Jan. 20, 2001, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was the widow of Arthur P. Taylor, who died in 1981.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Barbara A. Hier Ward
RUTLAND - Funeral services for Barbara A. Hier Ward, who died Jan. 16, 2001, were held Saturday at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. The Rev. Jospeh Romano, pastor of the St. Alphonsus Church in Pittsford, officiated. Cremation followed at Green Mountain Cremation Service in Middlebury. Committal services will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford.
George Wendell Weeks
ORFORD, N.H. - George Wendell Weeks, 89, of Floral City, Fla. and formerly of Orford, N.H., died Jan. 16, 2001, in Lecanto, Fla.
He was born Feb. 3, 1911, in Bradford, the son of Elvin and Florence (West) Weeks. He moved to Floral City 27 years ago. Mr. Weeks was retired from the New Hampshire Department of Highway Maintenance. Survivors include a step-daughter, Madeline Lynes of Lecanto; a brother, Forrest Weeks of Orford; and one sister, Alberta Glover of Swanton. Funeral services are pending with the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford.
Harold L. Mills
FLORENCE - Harold L. Mills, 88, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.
He was born March 28, 1912, in Florence, son of Albert and Winnie (John) Mills.
Mr. Mills was the proprietor of the Otter Meadows Guernsey Farm in Florence, which has been in the Mills Family for almost 100 years. He was a deacon of the Pittsford Congregational Church and a member of the choir. He was a long-standing member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel (Kingsley) Mills; a son, James Mills; a sister, Marion M. Philipsen; four granddaughters; a great-grandson and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pittsford Congregational Church.
There will be no calling hours.

Geraldine K. Taylor
Geraldine K. Taylor, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Rutland.
She was born May 15, 1919, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, daughter of Albert and Louise (Aubin) Primeau.
She was a graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College in Potsdam, N.Y.
She worked for Central Vermont Public Service, Munsat Jewelers, and was a teacher's aide at Rutland High School and St. Peter's School.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and St. Anne's Society.
Survivors include three sons, Bruce Taylor of Springfield, Va., Christopher Taylor of Rutland and William Taylor of LaCosta, Calif.; three daughters, Margo Taylor of Miami, Marcia Taylor of Scarborough, Maine, and Mary Lou Sharp of Colchester; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a niece and nephew.
She was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Nichols.
A memorial Mass will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
There will be no calling hours.

Carrie Frances Kelley
EAST POULTNEY - Mrs. Carrie Frances Kelley, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Carrie was born on March 19, 1927, in Poultney, Vt., the daughter of the late Elmer and Helen (Parker) Parker.
Carrie attended the Middletown Springs school system, graduating in 1944.
Mrs. Kelley married her husband, Mr. Clarence Kelley, in East Poultney on Jan. 11, 1947. The couple just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
She was employed as a seamstress for the Kazon dress factory in Poultney, and for many years she was employed in the garment industry, retiring due to her ill health in the mid-1980s. Carrie was a member of the East Poultney United Baptist Church and a former member of the Friendship Circle of her church. Her former memberships also include the PTA of Poultney and the Poultney Booster Club.
She was an avid bowler and a former member of the Poultney Bowling League.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Mr. Clarence Kelley of East Poultney; her stepmother, Mrs. Dora Parker of Middletown Springs; her daughter, Charlene Hill and her husband Lynn of Proctor; her two sons, Ron Kelley and his wife Sandy of Poultney, Michael Kelley and his wife Susan of Forest Dale; her two sisters, Marion Bixby of Whitehall, N.Y., and Harriet Boyce of Schenectady, N.Y.; her two brothers, Edward Parker of Chula Vista, California, and Richard Parker of Middletown Springs; her six grandchildren, Stefanie and Seth Hill of Proctor, Peter and Pamela Kelley of Poultney, Sarah and Eric Kelley of Forest Dale; her great-grandson, Evan Hill of Proctor; her five half-sisters, Dot Reed, Jane Dorr, Charlotte Baker, Sylvia Parker, Nancy Bealmear; her five half-brothers, Robert Parker, William Parker, Paul Parker, Charles Parker, Earl Parker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Stephen R. Payne will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Poultney Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Kelley may be made to the Poultney Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 76, Poultney, Vt., 05764.
Llewella B. Day
IRA - Llewella "L.B." Day, 73, a lifelong resident of Ira, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home.

Lillie F. Laaksonen
PROCTOR - Lillie F. Laaksonen, 84, died Friday evening, January 19, 2001, at Genesis Elder Care Mountain View Center in Rutland.
She was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Proctor, Vermont, the daughter of John and Anna (Torpfeldt) Dahlin.
Lillie was a graduate of Proctor High School class of 1934. She was formerly employed for many years as a cashier/bookkeeper for the First National Stores. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Proctor and was very active on several church committees. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, United Food Workers and A.A.R.P.
She was an excellent seamstress, an avid bowler, enjoyed doing ceramics and loved music.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Sabotka of Proctor; two sisters, Gladys St. Peter and Gunhild Whittemore, both of Rutland; her excellent caregivers, her niece Cynthia Mayer, Pat Agan and Marie Francischiello, an aide at Mountain View Center, and all the other aides and nurses that gave her special care at Mountain View Center; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Visa, in 1979; a son, David in 1960; three brothers, Leonard, Harold and Clarence Dahlin; and three sisters, Alice Mayer, Blanche Hall and Helen Brown.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Proctor. Friends may call at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford on Monday from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Committal services will take place at a later date in South Street Cemetery in Proctor.
The family will receive friends following the service downstairs in the church hall.
