Mildred S. Andrewsen
RANDOLPH - Mildred S. Andrewsen, 81, died Jan. 16, 2001, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born June 3, 1919, in New Haven, Conn., daughter of Sigrid (Carlson) and John J. Shay Sr.
She was educated in Connecticut schools. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven and attended Grace Hospital School of Nursing in New Haven.
She worked as a machine operator for New England Dye Casting in West Haven, Conn., at U.S. Motors in Milford, Conn. and as an emergency room coordinator at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven for many years. She retired from West Haven High School, where she had worked in the lunchroom.
She volunteered at Randolph Senior Citizens Center, Gifford Medical Center and the Joslyn House, where she had resided for the past few months.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, conversation and the mountains.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Renner; a son, Harold Andrewsen of Derby, Conn.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Shay Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Shay.
There will be no services. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park Cemetery in New Haven, Conn.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Barbara A. Hier Ward
Barbara Ann Hier Ward, 45, died Tuesday, January, 16, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born on October, 12, 1955, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of Percy and Jean (Euber) Hier Bushey.
She is survived by her mother, Jean, and stepfather, Thomas Bushey of Poultney; one son, SPC Philip Ward, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; one daughter, Rebecca Ward of Burlington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Bonnie Hier, William and Evelyn Hier, Ralph and Karen Hier, and Patrick and Betty Hier, all of Poultney; one sister, Viola Howard of Rutland; one granddaughter, Sierra Sampson of Burlington; two step-granddaughters, Rachell Sampson and Amber Sampson of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Percy Hier, in 1978.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Committal services will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford.

Gertrude W. Chioffi
SOUTH BURLINGTON - Gertrude W. Chioffi, 87, died Jan. 17, 2001, after a four years in paralysis as a result of a stroke.
She was born Aug. 19, 1913, in North Ferrisburgh, daughter of George Vedder and Inez (Martin) Willard.
She was an accelerated student and graduated from Burlington High School in 1929 at age 15.
She married Frederick "Grasshopper" T. Chioffi, of Rutland, on Sept. 21, 1940, at the Cathedral Parish in Burlington.
She worked for Production Credit Corp. and was secretary to State's Attorney Frederick W. Wakefield. After her marriage, Mrs. Chioffi moved to Rutland, where she was employed at the Merchants Acceptance Corp. for many years.
Mrs. Chioffi was a member of St. John Vianney Parish in South Burlington, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Willard Family Association of America Inc. She was a volunteer for the Area Office on Aging, and devoted much time to the Threshold program.
She enjoyed gardening and won numerous prizes for her flower arrangements at the Vermont State Fair. She loved to cook and enjoyed the holidays with her family. She also enjoyed her many cats and dogs.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen "Tess" Gouvin of South Burlington; two sons, Frederick "Doug" G. Chioffi of Burlington and Gregory T. Chioffi of South Burlington; a brother, George Calvin Willard of Essex; two sisters, Inez W. Carroll of Rutland and Jane W. Winters of Skaneateles, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1989.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 South Union St., Burlington.
Friends may call Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to your local Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or Humane Society.

Michael J. Krasowsky
SPRINGFIELD - Michael J. Krasowsky, 73, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Springfield, son of John and Elizabeth (Wornec) Krasowsky.
He attended Springfield public schools.
He served in the U.S. Army after World War II.
He married Dorothy (Miller) Woychikon on Aug. 22, 1963, in Springfield.
Mr. Krasowsky worked at the Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Co. for more than 30 years.
He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sullivan Council Knights of Columbus 2628 and was a lifetime member of the Springfield Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 679.
Mr. Krasowsky enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener, taking care of the flowers around the Whitcomb building where he lived for many years.
Survivors include a stepson, Frank Woychikon of Springfield; a niece, Marcia Murray of Springfield; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a stepson, Edward Woychikon; two brothers, Walter Krasowsky and Victor Krasowsky; and three sisters, Annie Jacobs, Ledia Zielonko and Sophie Michniewich.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Springfield with the Rev. Douglas Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Betty G. Darrell Wade
BELLOWS FALLS - Betty G. Darrell Wade, 68, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 2, 1932, in Hillsboro, N.H., daughter of William and Edith Rugels (Maxwell) Tibbits.
She attended schools in Lyndonville.
Mrs. Wade traveled with fairs and carnivals.
Survivors include three sons, W. Lester Darrell and Ralph Darrell, both of Springfield, and Clarence Darrell of Melbourne, Fla.; three daughters, Jean Wordell of Charlestown, N.H., Jane Darrell of Bellows Falls and Brenda Hamilton of Putney; a brother, William Tibbits of Orman, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her companion, Winfield Parkhurst of Bellows Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Odel Darrell, who died in 1980; and a sister, Barbara Shaw.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth A. Ryder
BRATTLEBORO - Ruth Anna Ryder, 87, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home where she had been a resident for three and a half years.
She was born April 19, 1913, in Brattleboro, daughter of Clarence and Susie (Hall) Fitts.
She attended schools in West Dummerston, and later moved to Brattleboro.
She married Leon L. Ryder on Sept. 13, 1933, in Brattleboro. He died in 1980.
Mrs. Ryder was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and attending tag sales.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Marshall of Florence, Mass., and Beverly DeFosses of Brattleboro; a brother, Robert Fitts of West Dummerston; two sisters, Dorothy Cole of Ipswich, Mass., and Bernice Holloway of Northfield, Mass.; a lifelong friend, Wesley Moses of Brattleboro; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ethyl Taylor and Lucille Martin; and a brother, Warren Fitts.
The graveside committal service and burial will be held in Marlboro Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call today from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace St., Brattleboro.

Harvey J. Pratt Sr. rites
BENNINGTON - The funeral for Harvey J. Pratt Sr., 67, who died Jan. 13, 2001, was held Thursday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, officiating. Interment followed in Park Lawn Cemetery with burial to be held in Woodland's Cemetery in Cambridge, N.Y., at a later date.
Bagpiper was John Skinner. A poem written by Robert Frost was recited by the Rev. Smith.
Bearers were Bill Barber, Eric Shortt, Gary Oldham, David Barber Jr., Richard Barber and Michael Grikstas.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home by members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861, led by Michael Green.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Leo L. Farrington
BENNINGTON - Leo "Butch" L. Farrington, 57, died Jan. 18, 2001, at his residence after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Bennington, son of Leonard and Rita (Gauthier) Farrington.
He received his early education at St. Francis de Sales Academy and graduated from the former Bennington Catholic High School in 1962.
Mr. Farrington married Joanne Lawrence on July 10, 1965, at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington.
He was a meat cutter at Salem's Market in Bennington for 42 years.
He had been an active member of the Eagle Hose Co. of the Bennington Fire Department for 36 years and was serving as department treasurer at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567.
He was an avid bowler. His hobbies also included hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of Bennington; a daughter, Michelle DeCosmo of Derry, N.H.; a son, Scott Farrington of Bennington; his parents of Bennington; two sisters, Wanda Provensal and Carol Griffin Jr., both of Bennington; two grandchildren; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home with a prayer and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. William H. Kelley, associate pastor.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The vigil service will be held Sunday afternoon.

Debra J. Hammond
BALITMORE - Debra Jane Hammond, 49, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 22, 1951, in Springfield, daughter of Raymond and Joyce (Grover) Hill.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1969 and Sheldon Academy of Beauty Culture in Burlington.
She married Richard C. Hammond on May 30, 1981, in Springfield.
Mrs. Hammond worked at Plaza Styling Salon for several years.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Raechel Beth; a stepdaughter, Tonya of New Port Richey, Fla.; a step-granddaughter; her mother; and a sister, Pamela Joyce.
She was predeceased by her father.
The memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at North Springfield Baptist Church in North Springfield.
