Aline Bassett
GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Aline Bassett, 84, died Jan. 16, 2001, at Hallmark Nursing Centre after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Canada, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bourdeau.
She was a nurse's aide at Indian River Nursing Home in Granville for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Chester Bassett Jr. of Corinth and Vaughn Bassett of Hartford; two daughters, June Hanlon of Hudson Falls and Ruffle Boice of Salem; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Bassett Sr.; and a son, Lyle Bassett.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Grace E. Blair
POULTNEY - The memorial service for Grace E. Blair, 88, former resident of Middletown Springs, who died Dec. 24, 2000, at Mountain View Center Genesis ElderCare in Rutland, will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Church Street, Poultney, with the Rev. Ramona Rose-Crossley, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Hubbardton at a later date.
Survivors include a daughter, Ginger Blair Archer of Poultney; twin sons, Stanley J. Blair Jr. of Hubbardton and Lewis E. Blair of Boonton, N.J., and Hubbardton; a sister, Emily Jarvela of Bradenton Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Blair; two sisters; and two brothers.
The family will receive friends and relatives at her daughter's home on Fennel Hollow Road in Poultney after the memorial service.

Barbara A. Hier
Barbara Ann Hier, 45, died Tuesday, January, 16, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born on October, 12, 1955, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of Percy and Jean (Euber) Hier Bushey.
She is survived by her mother, Jean and stepfather, Thomas Bushey of Poultney; one son, SPC Philip Ward stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; one daughter, Rebecca Ward of Burlington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Bonnie Hier, William and Evelyn Hier, Ralph and Karen Hier, and Patrick and Betty Hier, all of Poultney; one sister, Viola Howard of Rutland; one granddaughter, Sierra Sampson of Burlington; two step-granddaughters, Rachell Sampson and Amber Sampson of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Percy Hier, in 1978.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Committal services will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford.

Charles W. Hurlburt
MIDDLE GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Charles W. "Chick" Hurlburt, 73, died Jan. 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Middletown Springs, Vt., son of Lucius A. and Eva (Stoddard) Hurlburt.
He was retired from Telescope Casual Furniture Co. after 39 years of service.
Mr. Hurlburt was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of American Legion Post 83 in Whitehall.
Survivors include four sisters, Eva Holcomb, Anna Mae Holcomb, June Davis and Jessie "Betty" Davis; two half-brothers, George Hurlburt and Richard Hurlburt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Lucius M. Hurlburt and George H. Hurlburt; and a sister, Alice N. Brown.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Hurlburt donated his body to Albany Medical College.

Edward G. Matteson Jr.
GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Edward George Matteson Jr., 51, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Albany Medical Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 9, 1950, in Rutland, Vt., son of Edward and Dorothy Matteson.
He was employed by Tatko's and Ritchie's slate companies for more than 14 years.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Cora Louise (VanGuilder) Matteson; three daughters, Charlotte Goodreau of North Granville, Lisa Aubin and Lori Smith, both of Granville; a son, Edward Matteson of Granville; five sisters, Carol VanGuilder of Whitehall, Norene Clark of West Pawlet, Vt., Janet Lorenzo of North Carolina, Dorothy Matteson of Hartford and Lillian Matteson of Greenwich; two brothers, Mike Matteson of Hartford and Jerry Matteson of Granville; and four grandsons.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Gene Matteson.
The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with Pastor Arthur Ritchie officiating.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred C. Marshall rites
The memorial service for Mildred Cheney Marshall, 91, of Rutland, who died Jan. 12, 2001, at Mountain View Center Genesis ElderCare Network, was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Christopher Powell, rector, and the Rev. Audrey Murdock, assistant, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford at a later date.
Organist was Betty Clark.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
Harold E. Crampton
WOODSTOCK - Harold E. Crampton, 87, of Lake Worth, Fla., died Jan. 9, 2001, in Lake Worth.
He was born March 17, 1913, in Rockaway, N.J., son of George E. and Eva Belle Crampton.
Mr. Crampton spent many years working in Rockaway.
He lived in Woodstock for many years and was a member of the Woodstock Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothea Sharpe Crampton of Lake Worth; a son, William S. Crampton of Tigard, Ore.; a daughter, Barbara Delmonico of Chatham, N.J.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth C. Kuizenga.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock at a later date.

Lawrence A. Washburn
PUTNEY - Lawrence Alain "Larry" Washburn, 71, died Jan. 17, 2001, at his home in Putney.
He was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Pomfret, son of Gordon Fred and Alice Etta (George) Washburn.
He attended school in Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1947.
Mr. Washburn married Pauline Claire Mayo of Woodstock on Feb. 9, 1952.
He worked for a short time at Cone Automatic in Windsor before joining the Vermont State Police in 1951. He served as a trooper throughout the northern part of the state, and later attained the rank of sergeant when he became commander of the Brattleboro Barracks in 1970. He retired in 1979, and then worked for the Windham County Sheriff's Department and Vermont National Bank as a private investigator.
He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a radio operator on the USS Bristol until June 1951.
Mr. Washburn was a member of the American Legion in Brattleboro.
He enjoyed cars, driving and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at his camp in Bloomfield and spending time on the farm.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Darcy Washburn of Putney; three sons, Alan Washburn and Craig Washburn of Putney and David Washburn of West Chesterfield; a brother, Lauren Washburn of Wilder; and 10 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Black Mountain Road.
Christopher R. Lyons
BRATTLEBORO - Christopher R. "Christie" Lyons, 88, died Jan. 16, 2001, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 13, 1912, in Brattleboro, son of Patrick L. and Bridget (Cassidy) Lyons.
He attended St. Michael's School and graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1933.
Mr. Lyons was married to Florence McCullock on May 2, 1942, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Putney by his brother, the Rev. Daniel P. Lyons, SSE.
He was employed by the former American Optical Corp. of Brattleboro for several years, retiring in the early 1970s. He had previously worked for the former C.F. Church Manufacturing Co. for many years and in the general contracting business with his father.
Mr. Lyons was a veteran of World War II stationed in the European Theater of Operation with the 102nd Infantry Division. He was involved with the battles and campaigns in northern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. In 1942 Sgt. Lyons was chosen to be Gen. Alonzo P. Fox's driver while the 102nd Division was in the United States and Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was a member of the American Legion, Brattleboro Post 5, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carl Dessaint Post 1034. He was also a communicant of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
He enjoyed baseball and basketball, and had excelled in both sports while attending high school.
He had been a resident of Eden Park Nursing Home since October.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; a sister, Mary A. Dubriske of Keene, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, the Rev. Daniel P. Lyons, James E. Lyons, David F. Lyons and William P. Lyons.
Committal rites and burial with full military honors will be held at a later date.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace St., Brattleboro. A Catholic prayer service will be conducted at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Stanley Deresienski, pastor of St. Michael's Catholic Church, officiating.

Raymond F. Cousino
BRISTOL - Raymond F. Cousino, 78, died Jan. 17, 2001, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
He was born July 8, 1922, in Waltham, son of Felix A. and Delia M. (Provencher) Cousino.
He graduated from Bristol High School in 1941.
Mr. Cousino married Annette Meilleur in 1944. She died in 1998.
He owned and operated a farm in Shoreham from 1953 to 1970. He began working with the U.S. Postal Service in Shoreham in 1965 and retired from the Jericho post office in 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II.
Mr. Cousino and his wife enjoyed many winters in Ruskin, Fla., where they were members of St. Anne's Catholic Church, and where Mr. Cousino was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. He was also a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard Cousino of Montgomery Center and Rolland Cousino of Starksboro; two daughters, Monica Yost of Schenectady, N.Y., and Carolyn Payton of Saxtons River; two brothers, Paul Cousino and Robert Cousino of Monkton; a sister, Mary Bolduct of Monkton; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Cousino; and two sisters, Edith Cousino and Belle Lecours.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bristol.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.
