Vera Marie Riggs
DORSET- Vera Marie Briggs, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 23 2000, at Vermont Respite Home in Williston.
She was born in Dorset, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Tifft) Jones.
She attended local schools.
She married James Riggs Sr. in 1955.
She was a caregiver for the elderly in private homes for many years.
She was a member of East Dorset Congregational Church and United Church of Dorset and East Rupert. She was also a member of Home Dem and East Dorset Fireman's Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, James Riggs Jr. of Salem, N.Y.; five daughters, Patricia Fletcher of Westbrook, Joanne Torrey of South Burlington, Jennifer Riggs of South Burlington, Jerri Brown of Williston and Clara Ingram of Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Harold Jones of Springfield and Sidney Jones of Proctor; 12 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1984, two brothers, Charles Jones and Walter Jones Jr. and a grandson, Jamie Pappano, who died in 1988.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester.
Burial will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Robert N. Pudvar
POWNAL - Robert N. Pudvar, 36, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
Barbara L. Adams
BRATTLEBORO - Barbara Lorraine Adams, 72, of South Main Street died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Brattleboro on May 31, 1928, the daughter of Elmer and Hazel (Brown) Willis.
She was raised and educated in Brattleboro and attended Brattleboro High School.
She married Gordon C. Adams on July 4, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Brattleboro.
Mrs. Adams was president of Lawton Dry Cleaners, which she owned and operated with her husband since 1978.
Her hobbies included day trips and arts and crafts.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Brenda Powell and Dawn Robinson, both of Brattleboro; one son, Robert Miller of Brattleboro; one sister, Constance Odle of Westmoreleand, N.H.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Traham.
Private funeral services will be held at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve McClelland, pastor of the West Brattleboro Baptist Church, officiating. There are no calling hours.
Burial will be held in the spring in Morningside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may made to a charity of one's choice.
Services are under the arrangement of Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
Harold Carter
SPRINGFIELD - Harold "Mugs" Carter, 78, formerly of Springfield, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Fla.
Mr. Carter was born on May 15, 1927, in Charlestown, N.H., the son of Charles and Marian (Hobbs) Carter.
He attended schools in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School. He later attended the Technical School in Troy, N.Y., receiving a degree in engineering.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Barbara Cameron on Dec. 10, 1991, in Barre.
Mr. Carter worked for Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for 35 years as an engineer. His last position before retirement was senior sales engineer.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 12 F A&M in Charlestown, N.H., the Mt. Sinia Temple in Montpelier, the 33rd Degree Scottish Rite and the Egypt Temple in Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Carter had lived in Post Mills since his retirement and wintered with his wife in Dunedin, Fla., since 1991.
He was a marshal of the PGA tour for 10 years in Lutz, Fla., and would have received his red cap in recognition for 10 years of service this winter.
His hobbies included skiing, camping, hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Gregory R. Carter of Chester and Brian S. Carter of North Springfield; four grandchildren; and one niece.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Carter and William Carter; and one sister, Natalie Wilkins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the David Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Thomas Hitlsley, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. The Charlestown Lodge 12 F A&M will conduct a service at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
Josephine L'Herault
PROCTOR - Josephine (DeCicco) Frappier L'Herault, 88, died Dec. 27, 2000, at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre after a brief illness.
She was born July 4, 1912, in Westford, Mass., daughter of Dominic and Carmella (Denardo) DeCicco.
She graduated from Whitcomb High School in Bethel in 1935.
She was married to Cornelius Frappier of Proctor, and they made their home in Proctor. He died in 1956. She was married to Francis G. L'Herault on June 8, 1973. He died in 1983.
Mrs. L'Herault was self-employed as a manufacturer of marble jewelry for many years. After her retirement she volunteered as a foster grandparent in the Proctor Elementary School.
She was a member of the Union Church of Proctor and served as a deaconess for many years. She also belonged to the Marble Valley Home Demonstration Group.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan F. Borichevsky of Saratoga, N.Y., and Paula J. Blake of East Barre; a sister, Mary Heigel of Grand Island, N.Y.; four grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
The service will be held Saturday at noon at the Union Church of Proctor. Burial will be held at a later date in South Street Cemetery in Proctor.
There will be no calling hours.

Wanda T. Frost
Wanda T. Frost, 87, died Dec. 27, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1913, in Worcester, daughter of Warren and Blanche (Bert) Turner.
She graduated from Haverling High School in Bath, N.Y., and Columbia School of Nursing in New York.
Mrs. Frost was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Methodist Bible Study.
She was an avid early morning swimmer at the Vermont Achievement Center's Mitchell Pool, and was active in a square dance group in her younger years.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail T. Nielsen of Syracuse, N.Y., and Susan L. Smith of Center Rutland; a son, Peter Frost of North Port, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Frost, in 1996; and a sister, Ethel Ewald.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.

James J. Gallagher
GLENVILLE, N.Y. - James J. Gallagher, 83, died Dec. 28, 2000, at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born March 27, 1917, in West Rutland, Vt., son of Dennis and Loretta (Kerrigan) Gallagher.
He was married to Carolyn Gibbs on Nov. 20, 1943, and they moved to Glenville in the 1950s.
Mr. Gallagher was a staff sergeant stationed with the AAF Base Unit during World War II.
He worked as an inspector for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady and was president of the SAC Federal Credit Union.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady.
Survivors include his wife of Glenville; a daughter, Diane Gallagher-Buonagurio of Glenville; two sisters, Laverne Spencer and Ann Sheridan, both of Rutland, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Francis Gallagher.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady with the Rev. William P. Gallagher, nephew of Mr. Gallagher and pastor of Our Lady of Snows Church in Woodstock, Vt., as celebrant.
There will be no calling hours.

Carl R. Swinyer rites
The funeral Mass for Carl R. Swinyer, 68, who died Dec. 23, 2000, was celebrated Thursday at St. Alphonsus Church in Pittsford with the Rev. James McShane, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church of Rutland, as celebrant. He was assisted by Deacon Gary Griffin. Burial will be held at a later date.
Organist was Stu James accompanied by the church choir.
Scriptural readings were offered by Sister Judy Levins and Tom Brown. Personal reflections were given by Mr. Swinyer's sister, Beulah Harris.
Bearers were Tom Conway, Tom Brown, Frank Wilczynski, Gill Martin, Peter Senator and Bob Tompkins.
Honorary bearers were Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 1147 and the Pittsford Boy Scout Troop 110.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
Forrest D. Woods Sr. rites
The funeral Mass for Forrest D. Woods Sr., 72, of Petersburg, N.Y., formerly of Rutland, who died Dec. 24, 2000, in Brunswick, Maine, was held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison officiating. Entombment followed with burial to be held at a later date in East Clarendon Cemetery.
Organist was Margaret Curtis and vocalist was Olivia Gawet.
Bearers were James Fortune, Allen Fortune, Clark Salmon, Ruth Francis, Bobbie Jo Terrien and Ronald Alger.
A Christian prayer service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Mattison presiding.

Theodore J. Dido rites
FLORENCE - The funeral Mass for Theodore J. Dido, 70, who died Nov. 20, 2000, was celebrated Thursday at St. Alphonsus Church in Pittsford with the Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Pittsford.
Organist was Stu James accompanied by the church choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
