Lena Leonard
BENNINGTON - Lena Leonard, 89, died Aug. 14, 2000, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation after a long illness.
She was born in Ravia, Italy, on March 17, 1911, daughter of Victor and Margaret Dassatti.
She came to the United States at an early age and received her education in the North Adams, Mass., schools.
She was married to Edgar H. Leonard on March 31, 1929, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.
Mrs. Leonard had been employed at the Holden Leonard Co. in Bennington and the Polygraphic Co. in North Bennington.
Her hobbies include crocheting and embroidery.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy of Scotia, N.Y.; a brother, Virginio Dassatti of Cohoes, N.Y.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1987.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at noon at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home with a prayer followed by the service at 12:30 p.m. by the Rev. William H. Kelley, associate pastor. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Alice F. Cote
SPRINGFIELD - Alice F. Cote, 90, died Aug. 13, 2000, at her home in the Pillsbury Manor Apartments in Burlington.
She was born Feb. 11, 1910, in Lancaster, N.H., daughter of Francis and Olivine (Bilodeau) Nadeau.
She attended schools in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1927 as valedictorian.
She was married to Alcide "Al" Cote on Sept. 16, 1938, in Lancaster.
Mrs. Cote worked for the Farm Bureau office in Lancaster for several years. In 1940 she and her husband moved to Springfield, where they owned and operated the Springfield Bakery for more than 50 years.
She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Springfield Quota Club and the New England Retail Bakers Association. For the past five years, she and her husband made their home in Burlington.
Survivors include her husband of Burlington; a daughter, Anne Highleyman of Treasure Island, Fla.; three sons, Alcide "Pete" Cote Jr. of Springfield, Armand "Joe" Cote of Essex Junction and Andre Cote of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Doris Derosier of Lancaster; two brothers, Donald Nadeau of Chester and Hubert Nadeau of Lancaster; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church by the Rev. William Chant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
There will be no visiting hours.

Walter E. Savory
ALSTEAD, N.H. - Walter E. Savory, 92, died Aug. 13, 2000, at the Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass.
He was born May 21, 1908, in Alstead, son of George and Harriet (Jackson) Savory.
He attended schools in Alstead.
Mr. Savory was married to Dorothy M. Brown on Sept. 3, 1933, in Alstead.
He worked for the Frank W. Whitcomb sand and gravel plant until his retirement in 1956.
Survivors include his wife of Alstead; a son, Richard Savory of Derry; two daughters, Shirley Haskins of Alstead and Marilyn Come of Charlestown; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Alstead.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred W. Miller
DORSET - Mildred W. Miller, 80, of Dorset and formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 12 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She received her education in Tennessee and graduated from Memphis State University.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Ruth deCordova of Glendora, Calif.; and a brother, John Shelby of Memphis.
Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her husband, Elam Miller.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at the Memorial Park Funeral Home and Mausoleum in Memphis.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Dorothy H. Lawrence Rites
ARLINGTON - The memorial service for Dorothy H. Lawrence, 90, of Sunderland, who died April 15, 2000, at her home, will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington by the Rev. Joan N. O'Gorman, pastor.
A reception will follow the service in Bailey Hall by the church's Enterprise Society.

CHESTER - A memorial Service for June K. Parry, who died Aug 13, 2000, will be held at the North Springfield Baptist Church Thursday at 1 p.m.
A reception will follow at the church for friends and family.
Howard F. Chandler
BENSON - Howard "Tony" Francis Chandler, 59, of Benson, formerly of Naugatuck, Conn., died July 25, 2000, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1940, son of Howard N. and Thelma (Goyette) Chandler.
Mr. Chandler graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1959.
He married Joanne M. Snow on May 14, 1983.
Mr. Chandler was a licensed master electrician, and owned and operated Chandler Electrical Co. until his retirement in 1990.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Crippen Fellows Post 50, the American Legion of Castleton and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Prospect, Conn.
Survivors include his wife of Benson; four daughters, Kim Palangio, Barbara Daveluy, Diane Daveluy and Michele Miller of Connecticut; five sons, Mitchell Chandler, Christopher Chandler and Shawn Chandler of Connecticut, Rodney Benjamin and Howard Bougor of Middlebury; eight sisters, Millie Coursey of Weybridge, Ramona Troccola of Florida, Arlene Slater of North Carolina, Katie Fleck of Connecticut, Nardi Chandler of Connecticut, Mary Glidden of Brandon, Joyanne Reale of Connecticut and Patty Kelly of Benson; two brothers, Eldon Chandler of Michigan and Wesley Chandler of Benson; sixteen grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chandler was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Wendell Chandler and Lee Chandler; and a grandson, Mitchell Chandler.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven.
The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home by Jo-Anne Short, pastor of the United Church of Benson. Cremation will follow at the Pine View Crematorium in Queensbury, N.Y. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Benson.

Donald Carroll
The graveside service for Donald Carroll, 68, of Rutland, who died July 23, 2000, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, will be held Thursday at noon at the East Clarendon Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Bridgeport, Conn., son of John Joseph and Grace (Bryant) Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was employed by Deter Security, as a local cab driver for Phil's Taxi, and by James Mailhoit Roofing.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1122.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his companion, Gladys Batease of Wallingford; three daughters; a son; three brothers; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carroll was predeceased by a daughter and a brother.
There will be no calling hours.

Helen Rafter rites
The funeral for Helen G. Rafter, 76, of Rutland, who died July 22, 2000, was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland by the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison. Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, N.Y.
Vocalist was Sister Francis Patrick. Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton.
The eulogy was offered by Patrick J. Rafter, a son, of New Albany, Ohio.
Bearers were Patrick E. Conway of Rutland, Ronald Savageau of Benson, Albert Clarino of Proctor, Ryan P. Rafter of Boston, Mass., William H. Moe of Milford, Conn. and Andrew K. Samperi of North Easton, Mass.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Helen E. McGrath rites
The memorial service for Helen E. McGrath, 78, who died July 22, 2000, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland.
A reception will follow in the library of the church.

Delbert E. Foster
WINDHAM - Delbert Ernest "Ernie" Foster, 34, died July 21, 2000, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born in Townshend on July 23, 1965, son of Barbara (Clarke) (Foster) Lawrence and Delbert Ernest Foster.
He attended Leland and Grey Union High School.
He married Julie Sweet of Springfield on June 11, 1988.
Mr. Foster worked on many farms in Vermont and New York.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Glen Lawrence of Windham, with whom he lived; his father, Delbert, of Baltimore; a sister, Lisa Brown; one niece; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Adams-Gendron Funeral Home in Chester. Burial will follow in Center Windham Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
