Mary E. Fitzgibbons
CAVENDISH - Mary E. Fitzgibbons, 77, died Aug. 8, 2000, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.
She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Cavendish, daughter of Edward Sr. and Etta (Johnson) Fitzgibbons.
She attended schools in Cavendish and graduated from Black River Academy in Ludlow in 1941.
She worked for Gay Brothers Co. as a clerk in the finishing department and Margolins in Brattleboro. She later was a caregiver for the elderly in their homes.
She was a member of the Cavendish Baptist Church for 68 years, a Sunday school teacher for several years, assistant Sunday school superintendent and a member of the choir.
Her hobbies included reading, writing letters, music and playing dominoes. She wrote a book of poems which was published.
Survivors include two brothers, Edward W. Fitzgibbons Jr. and Russell J. Fitzgibbons, both of Cavendish; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cavendish Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Cavendish Cemetery.
Lunch and fellowship will follow in the dining room of the church.

Mabel C. Goings
SPRINGFIELD - Mabel C. Goings, 88, died Aug. 5, 2000, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield.
She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Rockingham, daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Nichols) Carey.
She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1929.
She married Austin P. Goings in Springfield on March 28, 1931.
Mrs. Goings was a teller and bookkeeper at the Vermont National Bank in Springfield for 17 years, retiring in 1976. In earlier years she worked for the Lawrence and Wheeler Insurance Co. and the Springfield Telephone Co.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield and treasurer of the church Memorial Fund for 10 years. She was also a member of the Church Administrative Council and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose and the Springfield Senior Center.
Her hobbies included arts and crafts, crocheting, knitting and reading.
Survivors include three sons, Carl W. Goings of Springfield, Paul C. Goings of Ludlow and Ralph E. Goings of Perkinsville; a daughter, Pauline G. Ellison of Ludlow; a sister, Gladys Coburn of Springfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1959; five brothers, Herbert Carey, Robert Carey, Leslie Carey, Floyd Carey and Bernard Carey; and two sisters, Marion Cutler and Rachel Abbott.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Springfield by the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Otis H. Mullen
RUPERT - Otis Henry Mullen, 85, former resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, died Aug. 8, 2000, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.
He was born April 19, 1915, in Pawlet, son of Barney and Anna (McKeighan) Mullen.
Mr. Mullen worked for Mudgetts Mink Farm and the Vermont State Highway Department.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Survivors include seven sons, Barney Mullen and Daniel Mullen of Arizona, Norman "Pete" Mullen of Whitehall, N.Y., Timothy Mullen of Granville, N.Y., Michael Mullen of Pawlet, James Mullen of Hampton, N.Y., and Joey Mullen of West Pawlet; six daughters, Deborah Samson, Mary Girard, Mona Lisa Cruiz and Pam Dousette of Arizona, Joanne Hysmith of New Jersey and Esther Daignault of Utah; three sisters, Mary Ingram of North Creek, Jennie Carver of Rupert and Anna Roberts of Granville; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Mychack. Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, in Salem.

Joseph L. Madkour rites
BENNINGTON - The funeral service for Joseph L. Madkour, 77, who died July 31, 2000, was held Tuesday at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. The Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial was concelebrated by the Revs. Laurance M. Olzewski, pastor, and Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor, of St. Jerome's Church in East Dorset.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Arthur Murphy. Scripture readings were given by Carrie B. Major, a daughter, and Abraham J. Madkour, a brother. Eulogies were given by John Reed, a close friend, and Michael J. McGarey, a son.
The American Legion Post 13 provided military honors. Ralph Brown presented the flag to Mr. Madkour's wife, Mary.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
Anita Faye Holland rites
ARLINGTON - The funeral service for Anita Faye Holland, 59, who died Aug. 4, 2000, was held Tuesday evening at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home by the Rev. Lee Dyer.
Poems, personal reflections and memories were shared by Pastor Dyer, family and friends.
Hymns were sung by the congregation.
Linda Dougherty
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. - A funeral service for Linda Dougherty, 56, who died Aug. 6, 2000, at her home after a battle with pancreatic cancer, was held Aug. 9 at the San Marco Catholic Church in Marco Island.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1943, in Louisville, Ky., daughter of Pascal and Patricia (Sherman) Pratico.
She attended schools in Rutland and Manila, the Philippines, before settling on Marco Island in 1986.
Mrs. Dougherty was employed at the Edgewater Beach Hotel for 12 years as Director of Club Membership.
Her hobbies included traveling and bicycling and she was a triathlete.
Survivors include her husband John of Marco Island; a daughter, Jennifer Pollock of Charlotte, N.C.; her mother, Patricia Pratico of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Robert Pratico of Huntsville, Ala., and Philip Pratico of Rutland; and a sister, Candice (Pratico) Trevor of Australia.

Theresa P. Sheehan
Theresa P. Sheehan, 61, of Rutland, died Aug. 9, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Whitehall, N.Y., daughter of William and Annie Mae (Blongy) Clark.
She graduated from Rutland High School in 1957.
She married John J. Sheehan at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rut-land in 1976.
Mrs. Sheehan worked for the Factory Outlet in both Rutland and Fair Haven and was a bookkeeper at the Coca Cola plant for 19 years and at DellVeneri's Bakery, owned by her husband, for 15 years. After the sale of the bakery, she continued working there as a sales clerk.
Her hobbies included reading and vacationing in Maine.
Survivors include her husband of Rutland; a brother, Charles Clark of Rutland; a sister, Lorna Battles of Rutland; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Dorothy E. McColgan
Dorothy Edna Powell McColgan, 74, of Rutland, died Aug. 9, 2000, at the Mountain View Center Genesis Eldercare Network after a long illness.
She was born May 3, 1926, in Rutland, daughter of Arthur and Mabelle C. (Crowley) Powell.
She graduated from Rutland High School in 1944.
She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Norman Johnson.
Survivors include several cousins.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Mechanicsville Cemetery in Belmont by the Rev. T. Daniel VanLuven, pastor of the Assemblies of God Roadside Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
James C. Romano rites
The funeral service for James C. Romano, 85, of Rutland, who died Aug. 8, 2000, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, was held Thursday at St. Peter's Church by the Rev. John Herbert, assistant pastor. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
Organist was James Cassarino and vocalist was Helen Davidson. Reader was James Davidson.
Bearers were Calvin Josselyn Jr., Dr. Lyman Johnson and Ryan Canales of Rutland and Lenny Burke of Mendon.
The American Legion Post 31 provided military honors.
George Zsido presented the flag to the family.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Frederick E. Cook Jr. rites
POULTNEY - A graveside committal service for Frederick E. Cook Jr., 75, who died July 22, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs by the Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Poultney.
The J. Clair Carmody Post 39, American Legion of Poultney, will provide military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home of Poultney.
Mary I. Petitt
POWNAL - Mary Irene (Card) Petitt, 97, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington.
She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Pownal, daughter of Hattie (Montgomery) and Arthur Card.
She married Thomas Petitt in Bennington on Jan. 13, 1926.
Mrs. Petitt worked for the New England Telephone Company as an operator in Bennington and ran a boarding house for several years.
She was a member of the Pownal United Methodist Church.
Her main interest was her home and family.
Survivors include two sons, William Petitt of Sebring, Fla., and Robert Petitt of Pownal; two daughters, Virginia Jean LaCroix of Pownal and Jo-ann Hanson of Melbourne, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1961; a brother, William Card; and a great-grandson.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, by the Rev. Gaylord Campbell. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
Verna M. Menard rites
BENNINGTON - The funeral service for Verna M. Menard, 74, who died Aug. 4, 2000, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, was held Tuesday at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church by the Rev. Laurence M. Olszewski, pastor. Burial followed in White Chapel Cemetery.
Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.
Bearers were Patrick Lindsay, Hank Lindsay Jr. and Keith Gorham, all grandsons, Josh Gorham, Danny Gorham and Kyle Herrmann, all great-grandsons, and Shawn Herrmann.
A prayer service at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.
A vigil service was held Monday afternoon at the funeral home by the Rev. Olszewski. Members of the Bennington Senior Citizens Club where Mrs. Menard had been active for several years, were present at the service.
A reception for friends and family was held at the home of Mrs. Menard.
