ELEANOR L. (GOINGS) HAYWARD
NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Eleanor L. (Goings) Hayward, 83 of Rte. 103A died Wed. Oct. 24, 2001 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in New London, N.H. on Sept. 9, 1918, the daughter of Alfred A. and Freda E. (Johnson) Goings and had been a lifelong resident of New London.
Mrs. Hayward graduated as the salutatorian of her New London High School Class of 1936, and attended Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. She married Earl J. Hayward on June 5, 1942. In 1948, she and her husband started the business of Hayward Refrigeration in New London where she had worked for more then 50 years and was currently vice president of the corporation.
Mrs. Hayward was a charter member of the Soo-Nipi Audubon Society. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New London, serving for more than 70 years on the Altar Guild.
Together with Lillian Howes, she founded the St. Andrew's Thrift Shop in the 1950s, served on it's board of director's for many years, and volunteered many hours working in the Thrift Shop. She was also a member of Martha-Relham Chapter, O.E.S.
Mrs. Hayward was predeceased by a sister, Alfreda Loverin and a brother, Elmer Goings. Members of her family surviving include her husband of 59 years, Earl J. Hayward, of New London; three sons and their wives, The Rev. Dennis E. Hayward and Tina of St. Albans, Vt., Michael J. Hayward, Sr. and Alison of Grantham, N.H., and Patrick P. Hayward and Roberta of Croydon, N.H; eight grandchildren, Shawn, Nathan, Ross, Raymond, Michael, Jr., Justin, Heidi, and Heather; one great-grandson, Jacob; a sister, Dorothy Hubbard of Wolfeboro, N.H.; four nieces and two nephews.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Sat., Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Gould Rd., New London, N.H. Burial will be in West Part Cemetery, New London.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Audubon Society of N.H., Soo-Nipi Chapter, 3 Silk Farm Rd., Concord, N.H. 03301; or the Lake Sunapee Region VNA-Hospice Program, P.O. Box 2209, New London, N.H. Chadwick Funeral Services of New London, N.H. in charge of arrangements.
ROBERT D. HEMINGWAY
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Robert D. Hemingway, age 74, died Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care with his loving family at his side. He was born in Alburg, June 21, 1927, son of the late Edward and Ella (Hilliker) Hemingway. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Army. Following the war he returned to the St. Albans area and became a welder for the Central Vermont Railway, a position he held for over 33 years. Bob was a former member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Central Vermont Veterans Association.
Robert is survived by his former wife, Theresa Hemingway of St. Albans; two children, daughter Gale Hemingway and her husband, Alan Miller, of Greene, Me., and son Michael Hemingway of St. Albans; grandson Nathaniel Hemingway of St. Albans and Bakersfield; his daughter-in-law, Patrice Hemingway of Bakersfield; sister Joyce and her husband Ernest Longway of St. Albans; four brothers and their wives, Harold and Cecile Hemingway of Connecticut, Gordon and Nancy Hemingway of Florida, Wallace and Nancy Hemingway of Virginia, and Arnold and Nancy Hemingway of Essex Jct.; a sister-in-law, Celeste Lemire of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews; very special friends Ricky Bessette and Mary Paquette and their children A.J., Gale, Lizzie, and Donna, all of St. Albans. He was predeceased by his father in 1977, mother in 1980, special maternal grandmother Jose Hilliker in 1976, sister Violet L'Esperance in 1986, and brother-in-law Edward L'Esperance in 1995.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 S. Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment with full military honors will follow in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, P.O. THELMA VINCENT LAWTON
MEDFORD, Mass./ST. ALBANS, Vt. -- Mrs. Thelma Vincent Lawton, age 84, died Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2001, in the Glenridge Nursing Care Center in Malden, Mass. Thelma was born in Montreal, Que., Canada, June 18, 1917, daughter of the late Philias and Ann (Kingsley) Vincent. She had been a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Dec. 26, 1946, she married Arthur Douglas Lawton in St. Albans. He died Oct. 30, 1996. Thelma is survived by her son, David and his wife Deborah Lawton of Wilmington, Mass; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and her husband John (Zeb) Larry of St. Albans, Vt., and Oria Lawton of Bennington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her three children, Douglas Lawton, Feb. 1969, Gail Lawton Chagnon, June 15, 1998, Heather Lawton Murphy, Aug. 3, 2001; and two sisters, Marguerite Duffy and Irene Colacino.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Holy Cross Cemetery. Burial will follow in the Vincent/Lawton family lot. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
BEATRICE E. HASAN, R.N.
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Beatrice E. Hasan, R.N., 65, passed away on her birthday, Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Northwestern Medical Center following an illness of several months. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on Oct. 22, 1936, the daughter of George and Beatrice (Hubner) Spall.
She was a graduate of Weehawken High School, the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing, and in 1990 graduated with a B.S. Degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington and a 1993 graduate from Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, N.H. with a Master of Arts Degree. In 1979 she moved to St. Albans and was a registered nurse with the Franklin County Home Health Agency most recently.
Survivors include two daughters; Linda Hasan of Secaucus, N.J. and Jennifer Hasan and her fiance, Todd Archambault of Burlington. She was predeceased by a daughter Mona Lynn Hasan on Dec. 20, 1984, and her former husband, Dr. Saad Hasan on Feb. 12, 1999.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday Oct. 25, 2001, at 7 p.m. in the Ascension Lutheran Church on Allen Road in South Burlington. The Reverend Frederick Neu will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. ROSE DELINA BESSETTE
GEORGIA -- Mrs. Rose Delina Bessette, age 94, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Swanton, Feb. 13, 1907 daughter of the late Peter and Julian (Wells) Fisher. She was employed in nursing at St. Albans Hospital and Kerbs Memorial Hospital. Jan. 5, 1957 she married Howard J. Bessette and they operated a dairy farm in Georgia for many years. Recently, they had operated a honey, maple syrup, and vegetable stand form their home on Rt. 7 in Georgia.
Rose was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a life member of the Woman of the Moose, Chapter #321.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Irene Sears of Georgia; two grandchildren, Mary Ann and her husband Sam Thompson of Fairfax and Darren and his wife Amy Sears of Georgia; five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, on Dec. 25, 1991; her grandson Michael Sears in 1972; and her son-in-law Darwin Sears in 1974.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Angels Church at 10 a.m., Wednesday. Fiends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Bessette family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Church, 246 Lake St., St. Albans, 05478. MADALINE COLOMB
TORRINGTON, Conn. -- Madaline Doe Colomb, 75, of Summer Street died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerald E. Colomb.
She was born in Montgomery, Vt., on Aug. 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Yvonne Roberts Doe. She resided in Bakerville from 1959-1977 and moved to Florida from1977-1998 and then back to Connecticut. She was employed by Cornodo Paint Company in the labeling department.
She leaves behind two sons, Jay Colomb of Winsted and Kevin Colomb of Torrington; one brother, Norman Doe of Richford, Vt.; one sister, Evelyn Cross of St. Albans, Vt.; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. LaPorta Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, Conn. has charge of the arrangements.
LILLIAN TARBOX LYON
Lillian Tarbox Lyon, 82, of Miami, Fla. passed away Oct. 11, 2001. She served her country in the Woman's Army Corps. during World War II.
She was predeceased by her partner of 58 years, Norman Lyon. She is survived by her son, Bill and wife Debra of Atlanta, Ga; daughter, Beverly Foster of North Carolina; three grandchildren Robert and Daniel Lyon and Brad Foster; one brother, Franklin Tarbox; and sisters Mary Howe, Julia, Constantine, Hazel Balio and Stella Quilliam. A memorial service was held Oct. 15, 2001 in Miami.
ROBERT THOMAS LAVALLEE
SOUTH HERO -- Robert Thomas Lavallee, 48, died Thursday Oct. 18, 2001, at the Allenholm Airfield in South Hero behind his home following a tragic airplane accident.
Bob was born in Colchester on July 11, 1953 the son of Roger and Elaine (Spiller) Lavallee.
He had graduated from BFA Fairfax in 1971, attended UVM and graduated from Johnson State College in 1977.
Bob had a great love for flying and had since 1985 belonged to the South Hero Flying Club and the Champlain Island Hoppers. Bob had a passion for living life to the fullest. His life was devoted to his children and being a Dad to all who loved him. He enjoyed renovating his dream home, cars, boating, fishing, watching sunsets and drinking wine with his sweetheart, Barb. He spent many years as a Special Olympics Volunteer and as a foster parent through Family Life Services. He also leaves behind two very dear boys, Ben and Dillon Chasse from South Hero. He was a commissioned officer of the Air National Guard. Bob had worked for Engleberth Construction since 1988 where he was the Safety and Risk Manager.
He is survived by his daughters, Breanna Lynne and Brittany Anne Lavalle of South Hero; his fiancee Barb Gintof of South Hero; her beloved children Ashley and Blake Gintof of Milton and South Hero; Breanna and Brittany's mom Robyn Terranova of South Burlington; his parents Roger and Elaine Lavallee of Westford; his brothers and sisters JoAnne Wilkins of Fairfax, Dennis and Marie Lavallee of Wildwood, Missouri, Andrew and Janice Lavallee of South Hero, Peter and Rita Lavallee of Milton, Marie and Tim Maclay of Plainfield, David and Cheryl Lavallee of Westford, Ted Lavallee and Sara Stearns of Westford, Richard Lavallee and Susan Boylan of Westford, Becky and Andre Roy of Westford, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by a brother Roland Theodore Lavallee in 1950.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Essex Alliance Church on Old Stage Road in Essex at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the South Hero Cemetery where Bob will be accorded full military honors by members of the Air National Guard. Bearers will be Bob's brothers Richard, Ted, David, Peter, Andrew, and Dennis Lavallee, as well as his close friend Brian Mitchell and honorary bearer Blake Gintof.
Upon Bob's request, there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to a college fund arranged for Breanna and Brittany in care of Christine Allard, branch president of the Merchants Bank, 301 Rt. 2, South Hero, Vt. 05486.
His incredible Smile will be missed by all who knew him.

MAUREEN GAGNE
Arizona -- Maureen Cline Gagne, born May 8, 1959, passed away Monday Oct. 15, 2001, from cancer.
She leaves behind her husband, Roger Gagne; daughter April Gagne; her sister, Marilyn Fennell and extended family in Canada, California, and Vermont.
She was a well respected school counselor in Mohave Valley and an active member of the prevention community. Maureen loved her work with children and families and often spoke of the respect, support and friendship that she appreciated and received in Bullhead City and Mohave Valley in Arizona. She will be greatly missed by all.
Maureen for several years worked in St. Albans, Vt. as a manager for a group home for handicapped adults prior to moving to Arizona.
