ROBERT ‘BOB’ HANCE

Robert “Bob” Hance, 60, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, with his loving family by his side.
Bob was born on Feb. 11, 1949, in Burlington, the son of Doris (Seymour) and Arthur Hance Jr.
Bob served in the United States Navy from June 1968 - June 1974. He worked for Coca Cola for 20 years, as a driver and most recently as the night supervisor. He retired on Dec. 18, 2009.
In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed hunting and was a big movie buff. He also enjoyed riding his Suzuki when he was able to find time.
He was married to Rita Aline Daigle on Aug. 7, 1999, in Milton.
In addition to Rita, Bob is survived by his mother, Doris Galarneau of Keeseville, N.Y.; by his children, Robert Hance Jr. and partner, Wendy, of Colchester, Christopher Hance of Milton; his stepsons, Ronald Masse Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Donald Masse of Brownington, Vt., and Roger Masse and his wife, Jessica, of West Kingston, R.I.; by his granddaughters, Juliette Masse and Shyanne Hance; his brothers and sisters: Arthur Hance III of Hollywood, S.C., Marie Hance Haviland of Milton, Linda Chartrand of Shelburne, Theresa Bell of Duxbury and James Hance of Burlington; and by many nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his son, Matthew; his father, Arthur Hance Jr.; and his stepfather, Earl Galarneau.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be on May 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Milton Village cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to a scholarship established for Matthew, to the Milton Football Scholarship Fund, c/o Matt Rector, Milton High School, 17 Rebecca Lander Lane, Milton, Vt. 05468.
Visiting hours will be held today, Dec. 30, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home.
GORDON DEAN ‘MAC’ MacGREGOR

A Service of Death and Resurrection, celebrating the life of Gordon “Mac” MacGregor, was held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 1 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of The Old Stone United Methodist Church, Isle La Motte, officiated.
Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Mac’s daughter, Judy Higgins, and family friend, Donald Chamberlin. The Service included members of Columbia Chapter 76 Order of the Easter Star conducting their Ritualistic Service. Participating were Judy Martin as Worthy Matron, Dan Sines as Worth Patron, Donald Chamberlin as Chaplain, June DeSarno as Adah, Annie Bradley as Ruth, MaryLouise Peters as Ruth, Ellanora Roberts as Martha and Barbara Baker as Electa. A Masonic Ritualistic Service was also exemplified by members of several area Masonic Lodges, including Robert Coon as Worshipful Master, Gerald Morong as Chaplain, Nick Banyea as Senior Warden and Eric Johnson as Junior Warden. The Masonic Bodies were led by Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master Christopher V. Johnson. Lodges represented were The Grand Lodge of Vermont, Columbus Lodge 11 Alburgh, Franklin Lodge 4 St. Albans, Lincoln Lodge 78 Enosburgh, Isle La Motte Lodge 81, Seventy-Six Lodge 14 Swanton, Isle of Patmos Lodge 17 South Hero, Haswell Lodge 39 Sheldon and Lamoille Lodge 6 Fairfax.
Concluding the service with Prayers and Final Call were members of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 of Alburgh, led by Commander Shawn Creller, Chaplain, Marty Deem, Adjutant Michael Soule and Matthew Aldridge representing the Sons of the American Legion.
Among the other delegations in attendance were representatives from the Mt. Sinai Shriners 3 Montpelier, Swanton Chapter 11 Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Representatives Association, St. Andrews Society, Vermont 251 Club, Alburgh County Club, Island in the Sun Senior Citizens, The Handy Group, Alton James Heating, Shore Line Chocolates, and Isle La Motte General Store.
Interment Services will full military honors will take place in the spring at The Old Stone Church cemetery in Isle La Motte. Following the services a reception was held for family and friends at the Alburgh American Legion hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary.
JAMES PATRICK LUCIER

James Patrick Lucier, age 81 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at his Brooklyn Street residence.
Born at home in Swanton on June 21, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Farnsworth) Lucier. He graduated from the former St. Anne’s Academy and was later married to the former Lucille Nadeau, who predeceased him on May 2, 1986.
Jim was a longtime mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring on July 4, 1984, following 33 years loyal service. He was also a member of the National Letter Carriers Association. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton, as well as the former Swanton American Legion. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
Jim leaves his three daughters and their husbands: Debby and Joseph Allen, Kim and Raymond Gabree, and Karen and Lewis Chapple, all of Swanton; two sisters, Doris and her husband, Frank Hubbard, of Swanton, and Joan Taylor of Winooski; two brothers, Robert Lucier and his wife, Gail, and Thomas Lucier and his wife, Phyliss, all of Swanton; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his longtime friend and companion, Valerie Ives, of St. Albans.
Besides his parents and his wife, Lucille, Jim was also predeceased by a grandson, Harrison Chapple, on April 22, 2000.
Private Funeral Services and Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic cemetery.

CAROL A. LANE
ST. ALBANS

Carol A. Lane, 65, a resident of this area since 2003, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the Northwestern Medical Center, with her sister, Kathleen, and brother-in-law, William, at her side. Born on July 4, 1944, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Lynch) Loftus. Her husband, Robert Lane, preceded her in death in August of 1999.
Carol was a communicant of Holy Angels Parish, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and was on the Grice Brook Residential Board.
Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Brunelle, and her husband, William, of St. Albans; a brother, Robert Loftus, of New York City; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy as celebrant. There will be no calling hours.
Assisting the Lane family is Raymond “Rett” Heald of the Heald Funeral Home and Cremation Service in St. Albans.
MICHAEL H. BUGBEE

Michael H. Bugbee, 52, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Mike was born Sept. 19, 1957, in Burlington, the son of Harvey C. Jr. and Marion E. Peltier Bugbee.
Michael graduated from Milton High School in 1976, and had worked at IBM in Essex as a senior inspector in the Mask House for almost 25 years.
Mike enjoyed a very active life, which included owning his own boat and fishing with his buddies or early morning excursions on his own. He lived to deer hunt in Vermont, as well as taking his many trips to Pennsylvania and Maine. These trips were clearly a high point in his life. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, trips to Loudon, the Boston Red Sox and early morning drives in his van around the back roads. He was a very independent person who lived his life on his own terms.
He is will be greatly missed by those who survive him, including his mother, Marion Bugbee of Williston; and his three sisters: Deborah Clark and her husband, Christopher, of Williston, Sue Badger and her husband, Terry, of Milton, and Karin Trono and her husband, Gary, of Essex Junction; his nieces and nephews, Jamie, Katharina and Ceejay Badger and Jerry, Jennifer, Brooke and Tyler Wolfenbarger, all of Milton, and Matthew Trono of Essex Junction; his cat, Minnie; his uncles and aunts: Gladys Cawley, Janice Proper, Lawrence and Ila Juaire, Roland and Betty Benoit, Dick and Judy Bugbee, Art and Lauri Bugbee, Barb Bugbee, Lorraine Gagnon and Moses Trayah; as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Harvey C. Bugbee Jr.; his grandparents; his uncles, Bob, Sam, Orin, Chad, Norm and Pete; and his aunts, Pat, Sissy, Honey, Baby and Barb.
This last year was difficult for Michael, but he remained independent in his own home. Thank you, Neil, for your help and friendship to Michael. Thank you, Colleen, Mark and Rusty, for Lifeline support and thanks also to all of his other Health Care Providers.
We miss you brother and we find comfort in knowing that this morning you had your coffee and smoke and headed out to that “Ole Fishing Hole.” Run Michael, Run!
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton. Please feel free to bring your thoughts and memories of Mike that you might wish to share with others at his service.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Thomas Patrick Donahue on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the Celebrant. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Norman Bushey. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.
The first Holy Scripture Lesson was read by nephew Daniel Cerone and the second by nephew Thomas Cerone. The offertory gifts were presented to Father Roy by grandchildren, Jessica Donahue-St. Francis and Chelsea Donahue. Letters written by family members were read by Michael and Jack Cerone, nephews, who also shared loving comments about their uncle.
A guard of honor was present from the Funeral Detail of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, under the command of Fred Bliss. The American flag was carried by James Brouillette prior to being placed on the casket. Others in attendance were from the Pilgrims, Fellows and members of the Loyal Order of Moose from around Vermont, Women of the Moose, Chapter 321, Bayside Bait and Tackle, Costco, Handy’s Toyota Auto Dealership, I. N. S., Franklin County Senior Citizens, and Bingo committees from many organizations.
Honorary bearers were Kevin St. Francis, Paul Martin, Tyler Barrette, Craig Mason and Jackie Cerone. Active bearers were Andrew Lepage, Allen Robtoy, Joey Pearo, Brian Corey, Ronald Baker, Thomas Cerone, Michael Cerone and Daniel Cerone.
Following prayers of committal by Father Roy, full military honors were accorded Thomas. The Vermont Air National Guard, under the command of OIC Captain Sam Trapasso, saluted the deceased veteran. The firing party included T/Sgt Brad Whelan, M/Sgt Troy Chalewa, SM Craig Sanborn and Chief Sharon Erickson. Following Taps by Bugler M/Sgt Erika Rabidoux, the American flag was folded by Capt. Trapasso and S/Sgt Jason Berube and presented to Tom’s wife, Peggy Donahue, by Sgt. Berube.
Tom’s family and friends then went to Holy Angels Parish Center for a time of friendship and a luncheon, prepared and served by friends of Peggy and Tom.
Tuesday evening, the largely attended Pilgrim Moose Funeral Service was presented by Governor Kent Samson, the eulogist, Norm Shaw, Prelate, Art Manning, Past Governor and Scotty Fiske, Junior Governor. Father Roy also held a Christian Wake Service with Tom’s family in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
ROY GUY ‘JUNIOR’ ALLEN

Roy Guy “Junior” Allen, age 85, husband of Rose (Gillespie) Allen, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Franklin County Rehab Facility in St. Albans, with his family at his side.
He was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Monkton, the son of the late Pearley Roy Allen and Lillian Eliza (Holley) Allen.
Roy grew up and attended school in Lincoln, Vt., where his parents ran a small farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving stateside during World War II. On Sept. 28, 1945, he married the former Rose Gillespie. After Roy’s honorable discharge, he and Rose started farming in Jeffersonville. He was backed by Frank Jones, who was like a father figure and believed they would be successful. They moved to Bakersfield in 1961, and bought a farm where they raised their six sons and continued to be successful dairy farmers. They sold their cows in 1984, and continued to work the land selling hay and firewood for several years after. He attended the Bakersfield 1st Congregational Church.
Roy enjoyed going to hunting camp with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed attending farm auctions, horse pulling events, county fairs, and family reunions, visiting State parks and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Allen, of Bakersfield; his children and their families: son, Roy G. Allen Jr., his wife, Sheila, of Bakersfield, their children, Roy “Buddy” Allen III, his wife, Sarah, and Tammy McCoy and her husband, Kenneth; son, Rodney Allen, his wife, Deanna, of Bakersfield, and their children, Jammie and Mark Allen; son, Roderick “Rick” Allen, his wife, Carol, of Bakersfield, and their daughter, Sherry Boylan and her husband, Joddie; son, Ross Allen, his wife, Ann, of Bakersfield, and their children, Travis, his wife, Louise, Kami Farr, her husband, Gabe, and Kristin Delehanty and her husband, Cary; son, Rock Allen, his wife, Joanne, of Sheldon, and their children, Tenylle and Ramsey; 15 great-grandchildren: Justin, Carol Ann, Maria, William, Brandon, Kennedy Rose, Madeline Rose, Alexis, Chelsea, Colton, Griffin, Candace, Ryan, Eric, and Alexander; five siblings: Pearley Allen and his wife, Lucille, of Essex Center, Harold Allen of New Haven, Donald Allen and his wife, Margaret, of Williston, Barbara McGee and her husband, Dick, of Shelburne, and Larry Allen and his wife, Ruth, of East Lawton, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son, Robert Jerome Allen; his dear grandchildren, Rodney Allen Jr., and Townya Allen Gleason; a brother, Roger Allen; and a sister, Ida Heintz.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Bakersfield 1st Congregational Church with Pastor Lyle Miller of the United Church of Bakersfield & East Fairfield officiating, assisted by Marshall True. Interment will be held next spring in the Jeffersonville cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
