A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Walter C. “Skip” Johnson on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Fabio Choiniere. Music was by Mary Jo Gillilan, organist and soloist.
Fond memories were shared by his daughter Pattie Wolff.
Bearers were his sons, Dan and Glenn Johnson; sons-in-law, Russell Lewis and Thomas Wolff; and grandsons, Andrew Johnson and Brady Johnson.
A Guard of Honor was present from the Funeral Detail of The American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, under the command of Mr. Fred Bliss. Also A Guard of Honor was present inside and outside the Church and the Funeral Home during visitation and funeral Mass from the Vermont State Police. Other representatives present were members of the Vermont House of Representatives, Franklin County District and Family Courts, former Mayors of St. Albans, Bellows Free Academy faculty and sports players, St. Albans Elementary staff, Kittell, Branagan & Sargent, Dickinson Dental Office, Ducham Actuaries, Biggie Advertising, Parent Studio, and former Brainerd Street neighbors.
A Final Salute from the Guards and the presentation of the American flag to his wife, Marillyn Johnson, was under the direction of James Brouillette, flag presenter. The Marine Corps Hymn was played as the procession departed the Church. Interment will be private.
A luncheon followed in Holy Angels Parish Center, hosted by the Ladies of St. Anne. Tuesday evening, Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with Skip’s family in the Brady Levesque Funeral Home.
MARGUERITE A. JOHNSON

Marguerite A. Johnson, age 95, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Brownway Residence in Enosburg Falls, where she had been a resident since 2000. Marguerite’s family is very grateful for the loving care given to Marguerite during her time spent at the Brownway Residence.
She was born in Enosburg Falls on Nov. 28, 1914, the daughter of the late Will O. and Gertrude (Hayes) Johnson.
Marguerite was a 1933 graduate of Brigham Academy in Bakersfield and a 1935 graduate of Johnson Normal School. She was a school teacher at the Bakersfield Common School and served a few years as Principal at the Bakersfield Elementary School retiring in 1977, after 40 years of educating in Bakersfield.
She was a member of the Vermont Retired Teachers Association, Enosburg Falls Senior Citizen Club, Enosburgh Historical Society. She was a former member of 4-H, and the Vermont Grange. She had served as the organist for the Bakersfield United Methodist Church and the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church where she was also a member.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the piano, going to church functions and senior citizen trips, and working in her flower gardens.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sandra Johnson of Bangor, Maine, Marsha (Johnson) Rohman and her husband, Ted, of Waterville, Maine, Brent Johnson of Hartland, Vt., and Craig Johnson and his wife, Katie, of Brandon, Vt.; several great nieces and nephews; two great-great-nephews; and several cousins, including special cousins, Eileen Richard of Wolfboro, N.H., Edwin Holm of Londonderry, N.H., and Jane Macomber of Brethren, Mich. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Francis Johnson, Arland Merrill Johnson and his wife, Genevieve, and Gerald Johnson and his wife, Henrietta.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church on Church Street with Rev. Jon Bly officiating. Interment will take place at the Maple Grove cemetery in Bakersfield at the convenience of the family.
A time of visitation will be held at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

JOHN CLAUDE ST. ONGE

John Claude St. Onge, age 78, passed away unexpectedly, Friday evening, Dec. 25, 2009, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
John was born Jan. 27, 1931, in St. Felix de Valois, Quebec Canada, the son of the late Wilbrod and Rose (Vandette) St. Onge.
John, at the age of seven, moved with his family to Barton, Vt., from Canada where he resided until 1972, when he moved to Enosburg Falls. He worked at the Howard Bank for 25 years retiring in 1982 as a bank supervisor. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1 of Montreal, Canada, and the V.F.W. Charles Daprato Post 778 of Swanton. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls.
John was a sports enthusiast. As a young man he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball and then as an adult he refereed and umpired many youth basketball and baseball games. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan. He also enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Rita (Dupre) St. Onge of Enosburg Falls. John and Rita were married Jan. 1, 1982. He is also survived by his children, John P. St. Onge and his friend, Kimberly Peterson, of Waterbury Center, Steven St. Onge of Fairfield, and Jeanne Sicard and her husband, Richard, of Barton; his grandchildren, Laurel Grenier, Nathan Sicard, Emilie Rich, and Andrea Miller; one great-grandson, Caleb Grenier; a brother, George St. Onge and his wife, Evangaline, of Repentigny, Que. Canada; two sisters, Marguerite Frechette of Burlington, and Yolande Paquette and her husband, George, of Barton; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Roland Frechette; and a niece, Susan Pelkey.
John’s family would like to thank the staff at the St. Albans Healthcare & Rehab facility for the special care provided to John. He had been a resident there for nearly the last seven years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Missisquoi Street, Enosburg Falls, with Rev. Daniel Jordan celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place next spring in St. John the Baptist cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

JOAN LILLIAN ST. PIERRE

Joan Lillian St. Pierre, age 74 years, died peacefully early Saturday morning, Dec. 26, 2009, at the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family at her side.
Born at home in Swanton, on April 8, 1936, Joan was the daughter of the late Eugene and Hazel (Lampman) LaGoy. She attended Swanton schools and on May 30, 1953, was married to Roland Harold St. Pierre, who predeceased her Sept. 12, 2003.
During all of her adult life Joan devoted most of her time and attention towards caring for the sick, elderly and less fortunate people in the Swanton and surrounding communities, and for the past 30 years has been intricately involved in the daily operation of Missisquoi Valley Rescue. She was one of the first women at MVR to qualify as an EMS Crew Chief and EMT Defibrillator Technician. She also served as secretary- treasurer for the MVR Board of Directors and until her illness served many years as their EMS Coordinator.
A member of Ambulance District 1, she served several years with them as MVR Representative and Training Representative as well as district secretary. She was also an active member of the Vermont Critical Incident and Stress debriefing Team. Outside of her Emergency Medical Services responsibilities Joan was a member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont, served on the Tribal Council and also as president of the ASHAI Board. She was a member of the Northwestern Medical Center Board of Incorporators and served with the Champlain Housing Authority, responsible for the establishment of Meadow Lane, a subsidized housing complex in Swanton. In earlier years she had worked at the former Kerbs Memorial Hospital, Fonda Container and was assistant manager of the Swanton Brooks Pharmacy.
Joan leaves her daughter, Doris Dumont and companion, Paul Rocheleau, of Swanton; her sister, Linda Stell and husband, Leonard, of Swanton; brothers-in-law, David St. Pierre and Raymond Bourgeois of Swanton, and Norman and Denise St. Pierre of Crown Point, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Chelsea and Shelby Dumont, Rae Ann Mulheron and Raymond Dumont III, all of Swanton; several nieces and nephews, including two very special nephews, Leonard “Joey” and Michael Stell, both of Swanton.
Besides her husband Roland, Joan was predeceased by a grandson, Raymond Dumont Jr., on Sept. 18, 2002; and aunts and uncles, Billy Jo and Theresa Sise, Leonard “Blackie” Lampman and Gloria Bourgeois.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite if Committal and Interment will follow at the St. Pierre family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton (868-3331), on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

GUY BERNADET

Guy Bernadet, 73, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Guy was born on Feb. 28, 1936, and moved to the United States in 1963, after raising two children, Suzanne and Andre in Montreal.
Guy has one brother, Paul Bernadet, who resides in Calgary, AB Canada.
Guy then married Lucille Dubois in Newport, Vt., and raised their two sons, Craig and Brian in South Burlington. Guy had a very successful career for 36 years with Pizzagalli Construction Company.
Brian and his wife, Gina, have two beautiful boys, Tyler and Jacob, and to them Guy was their "Pepe." In loving memory of the most genuine, honest, loving and caring man you could ever know - Guy Bernadet.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington.

LLOYD (PAT) PATTERSON

Lloyd (Pat) Patterson passed away Dec. 28, 2009, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) after fighting a 20+ year battle with farmer’s lung.
He was born June 4, 1927, son of Roy Isaac Patterson and Hattie Diantha Cole. He grew up in Walden, Vt. His father died when Pat was just 6 months old.
He married Pauline Dresser, June 30, 1950, and they farmed in North Danville at Four-Town Acres. Pat retired when health issues forced him to. Pat and Polly continued to live at the farm.
Pat is the beloved family man whose survivors include his wife of 59 years, Pauline (Polly); son, Roy and wife, Brenda, of North Danville; daughter, Joy and husband, Roger Wood, of Concord. The grandchildren who meant the whole world to him are: Troy Patterson and wife, Renee, of Alburgh, Dayna Boudreau and husband, Michael, of North Danville, Jessica Foster and husband, Ben, of Danville, Kevin Matte and wife, Meggin, of Waterford, Patty Matte and Fred Pogmore of Kirby, Andrew Wood and wife, Amy, of Essex Junction. Pat had the pleasure of knowing 11 great-grandchildren: Cameron and Jadyn Patterson, Jake and Rian Boudreau, Riley Patterson and Dylan Foster, Brandon and Kayla Matte, Kendra, Ashley, and Morgan Darrell. He is survived by brother-in-law, Harold (Bub) Dresser and wife, Nancy, of Buxton, Maine. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings: Goldie, Freda, Erlene, Nadene, and Charles and all their spouses. He was predeceased by Polly’s parents, Harold and Mary Dresser of Lyndonville; as well as Polly’s sisters and their husbands, Luella and Vernon Webster and Leonard and Helena Carson, all of Danville. He was predeceased by nephew, Roland Carson.
Pat was a leader in the dairy industry. He was on the Board of Directors of Cabot Farmers Cooperative Creamery for 32 years. He was instrumental in seeing the merger of Cabot and Agri-Mark take place. He was the chairman of the Cabot Board for 27 years. He was active in all aspects of milk promotion having served on many national boards. He was a member of the DHIA association. He had been a State Chairman of the ASCS committee for several years. He was inducted into the Vermont Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2004. He served as a District Director of Eastern AI. He served the town of Danville as a Selectman for many years. He was presently a member of the budget committee of Danville. Needing to attend these various meetings, Pat and Polly were able to travel many places in the USA. They were able to instill the love of travel in their grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Phil’s granddaughter, Amy Carpenter, read a poem and words of remembrance were given by grandchildren, Kevin Marshia, Jennifer Frost, and Terra Godin. Musical selections played were “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Daddy’s Hands.”
Interment followed in the Egypt cemetery in East Fairfield with Pastor Hoadley offering prayers of committal. Military honors were accorded the World War II veteran by the Vermont Army National Guard. Casket bearers were grandsons, Gary Draper, Jason Draper, Kevin Marshia, Kristopher Marshia, Aaron Marshia, Wayne Carpenter, and Michel Godin.
Phil, a longtime resident of Bakersfield, passed away in his sleep at his home on Dec. 22, 2009, at the age of 87.
Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls assisted Phil’s family with arrangements.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Romaine L. Martell on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Father Leonidas Laroche, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in Fairfield and St. Anthony-St. George Church, East Fairfield, was the celebrant. Deacon Gabe Gagne proclaimed the Most Holy Gospel, Prayers of General Intersession and assisted Father Laroche at the Mass. Altar servers were Denise Messier and Rose Rixon.
The funeral pall was placed on Romaine’s casket by his granddaughters, Samantha Martell and Phoebe Crawford. His wife, Janet Martell, placed a crucifix on the pall. Holy Scripture Lessons were read by son, Patrick Martell, and son-in-law, Matthew Crawford. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist. Sharing fond memories were his son, Patrick Martell, grandson, Joshua Gadouas, and friend, Kim Rolfe.
Those attending represented the AmCare Ambulance Service, Central Vermont Veterans Association, Bellows Free Academy Athletic Program, Swanton Fire Department, Sticks and Stuff, Office of Dr. Michael Corrigan, Don Cobb Auto, Kevin Smith Sports Connection and many St. Mary’s parishioners.
Honorary bearers were grandsons, Colby Greenia and Charles Martell. Active bearers were his grandsons, Silas Crawford, Eli Crawford, Joshua Gadouas, Jacob Greenia, Evan Martell and Nathan Powers.
Following the Mass, a luncheon was held in St. Mary’s Parish Center, hosted by the Bereavement Committee of St. Mary’s Church. Interment was at 2:30 p.m. in the Martell family lot in St. Louis cemetery in Highgate Center. Father Laroche offered the prayers of committal at the graveside. Sunday afternoon Father Laroche held a Christian Wake Service with Romaine’s family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
