David A. Deuso, age 90, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, 2009, at St. Albans Health Care & Rehab.
He was born March 3, 1918, in Bakersfield, one of 13 children to the late Curtis and Louise (Tatro) Deuso.
David was a resident of Montgomery most of his life. His working career started at a farm in Black Falls in Montgomery. He also worked for the Town of Montgomery Highway Department, logger for Rushford Logging in Montgomery, Chair Lift Operator & Maintenance at Jay Peak, stone crusher operator for L.A. Demers in Winooski, and finally a farm hand for Gaston Begnoche in Montgomery Center. In his spare time he was caretaker for the Montgomery Village cemetery and Montgomery Village Green and enjoyed playing cards, especially 500, as well as cutting wood.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Bolt) Deuso, of Montgomery. They were married on Dec. 30, 1946. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: David M. “Buddy” and Sharon Deuso, of Fairfax, Edward M. and Donna Deuso, of Highgate, Jeannie and Larry West, of Enosburg Falls, Michael and Mary Deuso, of Montgomery Center; eight grandchildren: Steve Deuso of Saratoga, N.Y., Justin Deuso of Knoxville, Tenn., Gina LeClair and her husband, Luke, Lisa Deuso and her companion, Josh Gauvin, all of St. Albans, Jessica Eagles and her husband, Duane, of Enosburg Falls, Joshua West of Boston, Mass., Kaitlin and Kelsi Deuso, both of Montgomery Center; two great-grandchildren, Bradyn Eagles, of Enosburg Falls, and Griffin Deuso Gauvin, of St. Albans. Besides his parents and 12 siblings, David was predeceased by a grandson, Dennis Deuso.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will take place this spring in the Montgomery Center cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

LAWRENCE ALWOOD TIPPER

A funeral service for Lawrence Alwood Tipper, who passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, was held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Sheldon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Marguerite C. Gage officiating. Music selected for the service, “In the Garden,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” was sung by those in attendance, accompanied by organist Kathleen Gorton. Special music, “Be Not Afraid,” “The Twenty-Third Psalm,” “Amazing Grace,” and “The Wind Beneath My Wings” were by vocalist, Claire Chevalier Hungerford.
A reading from Psalms 17 was by granddaughter, Lacey Archambault. A touching Eulogy was given by a grandson, Nathan Archambault. Words of remembrance were shared by granddaughters, Dawn Jacobs and Sharon Bombardier; and a great-grandson, Aaron Jacobs. A special poem written by great-grandson, Cody Bombardier, entitled “Forever Love,” was read by a granddaughter, Barbara Martin.
In attendance was representation from the Sheldon United Methodist Church, Hannaford bakery, Sheldon School, the former Sheldon Pulp Mill, Northwestern Medical Center and former co-workers with Quinn Freight Lines and Marcel’s Motor Express.
Casket bearers were grandsons, Robert Martin, Nathan Archambault, Steve Jacobs, Paul Bombardier; and great-grandsons, Aaron Jacobs, Daniel Jacobs, Ryan Jacobs and Eric Martin. Escorting his great-grandfather’s casket was great-grandson, Cody Bombardier. Honorary bearers were granddaughters, Lacey Archambault, Sharon Bombardier, Dawn Jacobs, Barbara Martin; and great-granddaughters, Brittany Martin and Stephanie Jacobs.
A luncheon followed in the Fellowship Hall of the church, hosted by friends of the Tipper family. Prayers of Committal and interment will be later this spring in the family lot in Sheldon Village cemetery.
Assisting the Tipper family is Lucien J. Hayes of the Heald Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
NINA ROSE (SHATTUCK) LIBERTY
ESSEX CENTER / ST. ALBANS

Mrs. Nina Rose (Shattuck) Liberty, 85, formerly of Essex Center, died Feb. 3, 2009, at St. Albans Health and Rehab, in St. Albans, where she has lived for the past four and a half years.
Nina was born in Burlington on July 22, 1923, with her twin brother, to the late Melvin Luther and Nina Rose (Bearor) Shattuck. She married Harold Robert Liberty of Starksboro at the Grace Methodist Church in Essex Junction on May 16, 1948.
Nina grew up in the Richmond area and attended the area school. She was in the Class of 1942 at Essex High School.
Every August for 23 years, many knew her as one of the flower ladies at the Champlain Valley Fair, where Nina was the assistant superintendent of plants and flowers.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Julie-Faye Liberty, and friend, Joseph McCarthy, of Essex Center. She also leaves two cousins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, who died May 16, 2002, on their 54th anniversary; her parents; twin brother, Melvin (1969), Edmund (1974), Ralph (1955); and her beloved Jamm, who was waiting for her.
Nina was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Essex Junction. She was very active until her health made her slow down.
We would like to give the staff at St. Albans Health on the west wing our heartfelt thanks for all they did for Nina. We know we all have lost a very caring and understanding woman who never complained.
A memorial service will be celebrated at Grace United Methodist Church in Essex Junction on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the family lot at Mountain View cemetery in Essex Center on Wednesday, May 20.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to remember Nina may make donations to the church, Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Maple St., Essex Junction, Vt. 05452; or to Dismas House of Vermont, 96 Buell St., Burlington, Vt. 05401.
The family will meet with friends and relatives after the service, a luncheon reception will follow at the church.

JAMES CHARLES LEVEILLE

James Charles Leveille, age 69, died Thursday, Feb. 5, peacefully in his sleep after battling cancer.
He will be remembered by his children, Darryl, Kristine, and three grandchildren from former relationships; his mother, Florence Archidiacono; best friend and cousin, Rosaire Robatille; brother, Armond Lamore; and his daughters - the Leveille girls - Sherry, Peggy, and Florence; his grandchildren: Chad, Dustin, Myia, Lucien, Sheena, LeAnne, Deven, Darren; great-grandson, Matthew; ex-wife, Betty Leveille; sons-in-law, Ron Machia, and Robert Barton; and a good friend, Gerald Gagne, of Highgate.
He was predeceased by a son, David, Feb. 6, 2009; and a daughter, Bunny, Feb. 15, 1996.
James was residing in Agawam, Mass., with his girlfriend of 14 years, Thalia Sherman.
A time of remembrance for Jim will be held at Sherry Machia’s, 1298 Machia Rd., Sheldon, Vt., on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
You will be missed by all, dad. You were always a strong man. It’s time to rest now, your work here is done. We all live on borrowed time. Thanks, dad, for making some of yours some of mine. We love you, dad.

David L. Joyal, age 66, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Feb. 9, 2009, while hunting, which was one of the things that David loved the most.
He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Bakersfield on the family farm, the son of the late Levi and Ida (Machia) Joyal Sr.
David was a lifelong resident of Bakersfield and was a graduate of Brigham Academy. Following graduation from high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he worked on the family farm where he and his brother are still farming and sugaring. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and had been on several Caribou hunts in Canada. He also liked to fish, snowmobile, and ride his dirt bike.
He is survived by his brother, Levi Joyal Jr., of Bakersfield; his sister, Helen Joyal, of Williamstown; good friend, Andrew Hale, of St. Albans; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Levi and Ida Joyal Sr.
There will be no services or visiting hours at this time. A graveside service at St. George’s cemetery in Bakersfield will be held and announced this spring.

Bernard Lloyd Powell, 90, passed away early Feb. 4, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y. Born in St. Albans, Vt. on April 14, 1918, Bernard was the son of the late George S. and Blanche (Edwards) Powell.
Bernard is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie M. Toof; and his sisters, Marguerite Daman, Elizabeth Marshall and Charlotte Adams.
Services will be private and at the convenience of his family. Interment will be in the Powell family lot in the Jeffersonville Village cemetery.
Assisting the Powell family is Raymond “Rett” Heald of the Heald Funeral Home and Cremation Service of St. Albans.
LILA ANN BUKER

Lila Ann Buker, age 70 years, a native of Swanton, Vt. and a longtime resident of Enfield, Conn., died Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton (868-3331). The Reverend Doctor Marguerite C. Gage, pastor of The Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Covey family lot in Riverside cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of the funeral.

HAZEL E. DRAPER

Hazel E. Draper, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at The Manor Nursing Home in Morrisville.
Hazel was born July 2, 1925, in Fairfield, Vt., the daughter of Morton and Hazel Berry Paradee. She married Donald Draper on Jan. 4, 1945; together they had six children.
She was raised and attended school in Fairfield. Hazel was known for an endless supply of coffee and homemade doughnuts. She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and keeping a clean house. Hazel was a homemaker and in earlier years a chambermaid at several different lodges in Stowe.
Hazel leaves five children: Donna and Rocky Drinkwine of Hyde Park, Dale Lowell of Simpsonville, S.C., Dana and Margaret Draper, Donald Jr. and Shirley Draper, and Darrell and Jane Draper, all of Hyde Park; also two sisters, Isabelle Sullivan of Bloomingdale, N.Y., and Barbara Guyette of Fairfax; a brother, Francis Paradee, of Fairfax; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 2004; a grandson, Dana Jr. (Buck), in 2004; and an infant son at birth in 1945.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the White-Fiess Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
