ALDEN N. RIVERS

Alden N. Rivers, age 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Our Lady of the Meadows Community Care Home in Richford.
He was born in Johnson on Sept. 18, 1925, the son of the late Eugene and Ila (Cushing) Rivers.
He was a resident of Richford most of his life and was employed at Blue Seal Feeds for 36 years retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a life member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Alden was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his time spent at deer camp in Montgomery and always looked forward to hunting, trapping and fishing. He was also an avid gun collector.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Dudley) Rivers, of Richford, Alden and Margaret were married on March 30, 1946. He is also survived by a son, Stephen Rivers and his wife, Mary Ann, of Fairfax; a daughter, Julie Rivers and her husband, Harry Mashtare, of Swanton; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Rivers of Richford, and Linda Rivers of Panama City, Fla.; his grandchildren, Chad, Kristie, Jennifer, Tim, Carrie, Uriah, Sarah and Irene; his great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Morgan, Madalyn, Jacey, Alan, Katelyn, Jaden, Dylan, Olivia, and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Orin and Alan Rivers; two brothers, Warren and Wyman Rivers; and three sisters, Irene Rivers, Christine Warner, and Josephine Paradee-Pearl.
In keeping with Alden’s wishes there will be no funeral services or visiting hours at this time. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at the West Hill cemetery in Montgomery and will be announced at that time.

Mr. Harry C. Hutchins, age 100 years, a lifelong resident of South Alburgh, died unexpectedly, Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2009.
A Memorial Service will be held in early summer. The date and time along with a full obituary will be announced when scheduled.

SUSAN MARIE AMILHAT

Susan Marie Amilhat, age 62 years, died early Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2009, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a long struggle with the rare Shy-Drager Syndrome.
Born in Kingston, N.Y. on March 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Stanley Sr. and Alice (Simard) Mercier. She graduated from the former St. Anne’s Academy in Swanton and received her associate’s degree from Champlain College. On May 2, 1970, she was married to Armand Joseph “Peto” Amilhat, who predeceased her on June 19, 1995.
Susan worked many years as a bookkeeper until illness forced her to retire. Most recently she had been associated with The Howard Center in Burlington and in earlier years worked for Swanton Packing as well as Northwest Counseling and Support Services in St. Albans. She was a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Mary, St. Albans. Susan will be remembered as an avid reader.
She leaves her daughter, Alice Amilhat, her husband, Major Michael Parent, (U.S. Army), and their daughter, Alaina, all of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Clyde Mercier Jr. of Swanton and David Mercier and his wife, Pat, of Madison, Ala.; one sister, Lois Wilson of Burlington; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Root of Highgate and Irene Allen of Ypsilanti, Mich. Also surviving is her aunt, Eileen Mercier, of Swanton; and many nieces and nephews.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Amilhat family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton (868-3331), on Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

WILLIAM LUCIEN REMILLARD
HIGHGATE, Vt. / PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.

William Lucien Remillard, age 74 years, a longtime Highgate resident and most recently of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2009, in the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh.
Born in St. Albans, Vt. on Jan. 2, 1935, he was the son of the late Armand and Mildred (Moran) Remillard. He attended Holy Angels Parochial School and graduated in 1953 from Bellows Free Academy. As a young man he belonged to Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, serving as a serious and devoted Altar Boy. On Sept. 1, 1956, he married the former Claire Chevrier, who survives him.
Bill faithfully served his country beginning in 1953 in both the United States Army and Navy, receiving his final honorable discharge on May 31, 1962.
For 25 years, Bill was associated with IBM of Essex Junction as a manufacturing manager. In earlier years he had worked as a manager for the Grand Union Company in the St. Albans and St. Johnsbury areas and also worked for a period of five years for Wirthmore Feeds. He was a parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate Center and was instrumental in the establishment and development of the present Highgate Arena.
In addition to his wife, Claire, of nearly 53 years, Bill leaves two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Owen McCuin of Highgate Center and Karen and Jonathan Gates of Franklin; three sons, Raymond Remillard of Redford, N.Y., Gary Remillard of Highgate and Kris Remillard and his wife, Stacey, of Fairfield; a sister, June Sargent and her husband, Charles, of St. Albans; a brother, Armand Charles Remillard and his wife, Dina, of Swanton; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Remillard of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Louise Remillard of St. Albans; 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Remillard, in 1998.

PAULA ANN WILCOX

Paula Ann Wilcox, 66 of East Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, 2009, at her home in Milton.
Paula was born Nov. 18, 1942, in Burlington, the daughter of Floyd and Alberta Menard Barrows. On Nov. 26, 1960, she married Larry A. Wilcox in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton.
Paula was dedicated to caring for all her family, including the care of her mother, husband and children. Her passion in life was to provide for her three grandchildren, whom she gave her heart and soul to. She always put the needs of others in front of her own and will remain the wind beneath her family’s wings. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, of Milton, and their children, Dan Wilcox and his partner, Janie Hall, of Colchester, and Dawn Wheeler and her partner, Tom Savard, of Milton; her grandchildren, Joshua Dale Wheeler and partner, Alyssa Boyle, Kyle Wilcox, Kirsten Wheeler and her partner, Anthony Rowell; her mother, Alberta Barrows of Milton; and her brothers and sisters-in-laws, Barb Patnode and Roland Dubuque of South Hero, Mick and Jean Wilcox of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., Dick and Laurie Wilcox of Essex Center, Ila Barrows of Colchester, Eleanor Barrows of Milton, Rita and Tom Rock of Colchester, Ruth Barrows of Milton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Dale Wilcox, on Nov. 24, 1984; her father, Floyd Barrows; her father- and mother-in-law, Alvah and Laura Wilcox; and her 10 brothers and sisters.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Ann’s cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with vigil prayers offered by Father John Feltz at 3:45 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain, N.Y., for Dina A. Keefe. She passed away Jan. 20, 2009, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.
Rev. James Delbel, pastor, celebrated the Mass with Allison Blaine assisting. The pallbearers were Sean Keefe, Patrick Keefe, Eric Gadway, Jeff Taylor, Ralph Forte and Carl Picioccio. The organist was Mr. George Schnob. The singers were Molly Ryan and Courtney Jonas.
Kelly Taylor, Lee Ann Bullis and Jill Picioccio read from the scripture. Intentions were by Colleen Ryan, Kassidee Keefe and Shannon Keefe. The offertory gifts were presented by Kiera Ryan-Gadway, John Taylor and Jackson Taylor. A remembrance of Dina’s life was shared by Michael Keefe.
The burial will be in the spring at St. Monica’s cemetery in Barre, Vt.

LAWRENCE FREDERICK BISHOP

Mr. Lawrence Frederick Bishop, age 85 years, a lifelong area resident, died late Thursday evening, Jan. 29, 2009, at his Hanna Road residence with his loving wife and primary caregiver, Vivian, at his side.
Born in Sheldon Springs, Vt. on July 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Fredlow and Zilda (Sheltra) Bishop. He attended school in Sheldon Springs and on Oct. 30, 1948, was married to the former Vera Vivian Machia, who survives him.
Lawrence was associated with the Sheldon Paper Mill in Sheldon Springs, retiring as a foreman after 36 years of service. In his earlier years he coached Little League Baseball in Franklin and will be remembered for building and operating the concessions stands. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a 46-year member of the American Legion, Post 42 of Enosburg Falls as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing and playing his harmonica. However, his favorite pastime in later years was playing solitaire.
Lawrence’s family would like to offer a very sincere “Thank You” to all the members of Franklin Rescue for their extreme professionalism and many acts of kindness.
In addition to his wife, Vera, of 60 years, Lawrence leaves his children, Larry Bishop of St. Albans, Alan Bishop and wife, Darlene, of Enosburg, Bonnie St. Pierre (deceased) and her husband, Mark St. Pierre, of Fairfield, Tammie Lafromboise and husband, Michael, of Fairfax, Susan Mayo and husband, William, of Franklin, Patti Corey and husband, Kenneth, of Franklin, and Joey Bishop and wife, Stacey, also of Franklin; grandchildren: Liza Harrness, Angie Bishop, Jason Noel, Shane Noel, Ashley Mayo, Bradley Corey, Katie Corey, Amber Bishop, Joey Bishop Jr. Shawn St. Pierre, and Kayla St. Pierre; great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a son-law; a brother, Ronald Bishop of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Edward Corwell and his wife, Judy, of Highgate.
Lawrence was recently predeceased by his daughter, Bonnie St. Pierre, on Dec. 8, 2008. He was also predeceased by sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Wescott, Beulah Lunn, Beatrice Corwell, Raymond Bishop and Adelbert Longley.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau, pastor of Nativity / St. Louis Parish, will officiate. Entombment will follow to await spring interment with full military honors in St. Anthony cemetery Sheldon Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

ROBERT C. ‘ROBBIE’ WILLIAMS

Robert C. “Robbie” Williams, age 54, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 30, 2009, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington with his loving wife at his side.
He was born Jan. 26, 1955, in Reno, Nev., the son of the late John and Charlotte (Lunderville) Williams.
Robbie grew up in Richford and was a 1977 graduate of Richford High School. Robbie was very proud of receiving his high school diploma at the age of 22 after taking a few years off from high school. He has been a resident of Burlington for the past 4 ½ years and was a former long time resident of St. Albans. He was a dedicated employee for the Vermont Department of Corrections in St. Albans from 1981 to 1999 when poor health forced him to retire. Prior to working with Corrections he worked driving truck and was a clerk at a variety of convenient stores.
Robbie enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling to Florida and the Bahamas, reading, working on the computer, watching movies, listening to country music. He also had a knack for remembering phone numbers.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (Spaulding) Williams, of South Burlington. They were married July 23, 1983. He is also survived by his two step-sons, Roger Beauregard, his wife, Tammy, and their son, Joseph “Joey,” and Tammy’s children, Thomas and Tausha Deal, all of Colchester, and Rob Beauregard and his wife, Joan, of Enosburg Falls; his stepfather, Loren Lovelette and his wife, Velma, of Raymond, Maine; several nieces, nephews; and many special friends. Besides his parents, Robbie was predeceased by his brothers, Jay A. Barbeau Sr., Jeffrey Barbeau, and Steven Barbeau.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 noon until the hour of the funeral.
