PHILIP A. BROSSEAU

Mr. Philip A. Brosseau, age 81 years, died at his Gore Road residence early Thursday morning, June 5, 2008, with his family at his side.
Born in Highgate on, April 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Eugene and Cora (Piedalue) Brosseau. He attended Highgate schools and on, Oct. 29, 1949, was married to the former Irene M. Viens who survives him.
Philip spent most of his working life on the family farm located on the Brosseau Road in Highgate Falls. In later years he worked for a time at the former Eveready Battery Company in St. Albans Town. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Name and Ste Jean de la Baptiste Societies.
In addition to his wife, Irene, of Highgate Center, Philip leaves two sons and their wives, Philip L. (Butch) and Donna Brosseau and Daniel and Lise Brosseau all of Highgate; nine daughters and their husbands, Diane and Steve Murphy of Sebastian, Fla., Patricia and Fernand Gagne of Highgate Springs, Jean and David Burnor of Fairfield, Elaine and Michael Chevalier of Highgate Springs, Joanne and John Fraties of Highgate Springs, Nancy and Steve Cadieux of Highgate, Laurie and Raymond Bushey of North Hartland, Vt., Lisa and Glenn Dockman of Milton and MaryBeth and Marc Barnum of Swanton; three brothers, Paul Brosseau of St. Albans, George Brosseau of Castleton, and Leo Brosseau and wife, Ruth, of Garden Grove, Calif.; five sisters, Laura Danserau of Gardena, N.Y., Blanche Partlow of St. Albans, Irene Brosseau of Albany, N.Y., Alice Rose of Dover, N.J. and Cecile Malouf of Virginia Beach, Va.; 31 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents Philip was predeceased by three brothers and their wives, Dr. Albert and Julianne Brosseau, John and Bea Brosseau, and Aime and Madeline Brosseau; three sisters and their husbands, Theresa and Rudy Lambert, Lorraine and Maurice Cadieux and Lucille and Rene Racine; and sister-in-laws, Eva Brosseau and Lou Brosseau.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June, 7 2008, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street Highgate Center. Father John Paul Laplant will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Brosseau family lot in St. Louis cemetery.
Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, on Friday evening from 7 to 9. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel at St. Anne’s Shrine. Father Brian J. Cumming, SSE was the principle celebrant and homilist. Concelebrating was Father Richard N. Berube, SSE. Sister Mary Anne Gour, FCSCJ and Monique Bourgeois served as ministers of the altar. Music was provided by soloist and guitarist, Jerome Monachino. The White Funeral Pall was draped over Kathleen’s casket by Christopher Smith. The Crucifix was then placed by Sharron Smith. The Old Testament Reading was proclaimed by Mary-Elizabeth Smith and The New Testament Reading by William Ford. Following communion Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Cari-Lee Spaulding. The St. Anne’s Chapel Bell was rung by Ava Elizabeth Spaulding. Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the, Edmundite Community, St. Anne’s Shrine Staff, Town of Isle La Motte, Hospice of the Champlain Valley, Sisters of Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Palmer Construction. The bearers were, Christopher Smith, Jared Smith, Kevin Armstrong, Ryan Parah and Raleigh Palmer. Following the liturgy a Bereavement Luncheon was served to family and friends in the Father Boucher Building hosted by Father Cummings and the shrine staff.

A Funeral Service was held Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 3 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. Father Benedict C. Kiely officiated. The Old Testament Reading was proclaimed by niece, Fern Cota and The New Testament Reading by niece, Sherry Dumont. Special Words of Remembrance were shared by granddaughter, Rachel LeGrand. A large guard of honor was formed by members of the American Legion Green Mountain Post 1, Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Glidden Post 758 both of Saint Albans, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Swanton and Missisquoi Valley Rescue. Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security including the Customs Service, Vermont State Police, UPS, Swanton and Alburgh Health Centers, local Avon Representatives, Hero’s Welcome, Wood and Kidder, Inc., Swanton Public Library, Bev’s Shear Expectations, Swanton Rexall, Mylan Technologies, Cota’s Auto Parts and Service, Swanton Village Fire Department and Auxiliary, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools, Swanton Historical Society, The Parts Store, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Northwestern Medical Center and Swanton Village Green Apartments. The Rite of Committal and Interment followed at the Dumont family lot in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic cemetery with Father Kiely reading the committal prayers. The Honorary Bearers were, Merrill Corbiere and Wesley F. Kidder. The Active Bearers were, Raymond Pare, Bruce Spaulding, Dexter Spaulding, Harvey Chadwick, Edgar Royer, and Bernard LaRocque. Full Military Honors were accorded the deceased by members of the Vermont Army National Guard 172nd Armor, Honor Guard Team. Officer in Charge was MSG Dennis Sheridan. Members of the firing party were, SSG Adam Crogan, SGT Justin Wilson, PV2 Edward Bouchard, SFC Tina Churchill and SFC Raymond Laroche. The American Flag which draped the Korean Conflict veterans casket was folded by SFC Raymond Laroche and presented to Mrs. Selina Dumont by SFC Tina Churchill. Bugler SSG Todd Trombley sounded taps. Following the committal and military services a Bereavement Luncheon was served in the Nativity Parish Center hosted by Mrs. Pauline Pare and the Ladies of St. Anne.

Committal and interment services for Mrs. Paula J. Langlais, who died March 11, 2008, will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Lucas family lot in section "G" in Holy Cross cemetery. Deacon Duane Langlois, from Holy Angels Church, will officiate.

Alton L. Rabideau died suddenly June 2, 2008, at his home in Florida. Al was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., grew up in Mooers Forks, N.Y., raised his family in Fairfax, Vt., and retired to Stonecrest, Fla. He was employed by IBM for 30 years.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Jeannine of 13 years; and his three children: Sherry and her husband, James Conover from North Carolina, Lawrence and his wife, Johanna, from Georgia, and Garry and his wife, Dawn, from Vermont. He leaves behind three brothers: Richard and friend, Aletta, from New York, Milton and his wife, Brenda, from New York, Homer and Joan from Florida. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; and many good friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria (Hebert) Rabideau; and mother, Lillian Bushey.
Al has many fond memories of time spent at his camp in Rouses Point, N.Y. He was a good man and loved all his children. He enjoyed boating on Lake Champlain and was a NASCAR fan, #48. HE loved his home in Florida and was fond of his 1930s Classic Coupe golf cart. His hobbies included gardening, reading, puzzles, joking around, and was simply a kid at heart. He will be passionately missed by his wife and family.
Visiting hours will be at Brown’s Funeral Home in Altona, N.Y., on Monday, June 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Mooers Forks, N.Y., June 10th at 10 a.m.
PAMELA KANE MAYO

Pamela Kane Mayo, age 43, mother of Amanda and Randy Mayo, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with her loving family at her side, following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 8, 1964, in St. Albans, the daughter of Norman and Margaret “Peggy” (Larose) Kane.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved to be with her children, Amanda and Randy, attending the school activities, taking them skiing, sliding and cooking for them, especially chicken wings with her own special sauce.
Pam was currently working for the past four years as a senior lab technician at Mylan Technologies in St. Albans. She had also been employed at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was an outgoing person who loved to have fun. She enjoyed having family and friends around and was always willing to help others. She was an avid reader.
She looked forward to visits from her nieces and nephews who always needed a quick snack, a movie to borrow or help with the computer to download music. She also had a special friendship with her cousin Valerie Kane, which Pam’s family truly appreciates and is thankful for.
She is survived by her children, Amanda and Randy Mayo of Sheldon; her parents, Norman and Peggy Kane of Sheldon; her brothers and their families: Timothy N. Kane, his wife, Sandra, and their children, Benjamin and Kelly of Berkshire, Gregory Kane, his wife, Carol, their children, Jeremy and Amy of Sheldon, and Jonathan Kane, his wife, Robin, their children, Thomas Lemire and Tia Kane of Essex Junction; aunts and uncles: Emile LaRose of Ganesvoort, N.Y., Lucille Langevin of St. Pie, Que. Canada, Roger and Dorcas Larose of Berkshire, Muriel Larose of Westport, N.Y., Robert and Theresa Gale of Sheldon Springs, and Claire Kane of Sheldon; and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, June 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sheldon Springs with Rev. Bernard Bechard Celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s cemetery in Sheldon Springs.
Visiting hours will be held today (Thursday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

JOSEPH V. KUBAS

Mr. Joseph V. Kubas, age 85, died Tuesday evening, in the Fletcher Allen Health Center after an extensive illness. Joe was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., March 13, 1923, son of the late Thomas and Anna (Frederowicz) Kubas.
He served in the U. S. Army, a member of the 43rd Division and returned to St. Albans to marry Joyce Laughlin, Feb. 9, 1946, in St. Mary’s Church. He worked up to become a foreman at Central Vermont Public Service, a position he held until his retirement. Joe loved gardening, feeding wildlife and helping out in the Maple Sugar Industry at the Sugarhouse of his son-in-law, Thomas Mahoney, in Fairfield. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758 and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church for many years.
His survivors include his daughter and her husband, Diane and Thomas Mahoney of Fairfield; grandchildren, Erin and Casey Tatro, Katie and Brian Redfield; three great-grandchildren, Liam and Nora Tatro, Triton Redfield; and his brother, Stanley Kubas, all of St. Albans; "a brother and sister" with whom he was raised in Rutland, Bruno Kramarz now of Fulton, N.Y., and Helen Nienahowski, still in Rutland; his sisters-in-law, Blanche Kubas of Florida, Helen Maynard of Burlington, Liz Laughlin of Miss, Lucy Laughlin of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Joyce, Aug. 9, 2005; their son, Dana Kubas, Jan. 21, 1970; granddaughter, Tammy Kubas, June 13, 1969; and brother, Thomas Kubas, May 10, 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Friends may call at the Brady Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Interment will follow the Mass in the Kubas family lot in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

RICHARD J. ‘DICKIE’ CHURCHILL

Richard J. “Dickie” Churchill, age 74, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born July 3, 1933, in St. Albans, the son of the late Wellington and Myrtha (Wilson) Churchill.
Dickie was employed at the Rock-Tenn Paper Mill in Sheldon Springs for 28 years and then at the Boise Cascade Hydro Plant for 10 years before retiring. He also rebuilt, owned and operated the Franklin General Store from 1978 to 1984. Following his retirement he spent time raising beef cattle and cutting wood.
He was a member of the Vermont National Guard from 1950 to 1952 and was activated during the Korean War, stationed in Germany.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 1 of St. Albans, V.F.W. Post 778 of Swanton, and the Elks Lodge 1566 of St. Albans.
Dickie enjoyed spending time ice fishing, golfing, hunting, playing pool, gardening and especially loved spending time with his family, friends and dogs Mesha and Molly.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Agnes (Macia) Churchill of Sheldon; his children: Debbie Williams of Sheldon, Roddy Churchill and his wife, Cindy, of Sheldon, Randy Churchill of Swanton, Tony Churchill and his wife, Kerri, of Sheldon, and Mark Churchill and his wife, Tina, of Sheldon; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy LaCross of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Bob Touchette and his wife, Pat, of Auburn, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Albert Cotnoir; brother, Wellington Churchill Jr.; and son-in-law, Ken Williams.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, 2008, at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Pastor Rich O’Donnell celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours.

CARMI WATSON ‘SONNY’ LEVIS, JR.

Carmi Watson “Sonny” Levis Jr., age 78, passed away Wednesday evening, June 11, 2008, at the Franklin County Rehab Facility in St. Albans.
He was born in Montgomery on Oct. 26, 1929, the son of the late Carmi W. and Eve (Hoyt) Levis.
Sonny was a lifelong resident of Montgomery Center where he worked on the family farm. He enjoyed doing the fieldwork, cutting logs, sugaring, digging potatoes and growing red roses. He enjoyed the time spent with his family, taking walks up 242, traveling the back roads with his Dad and siblings, picnics at Hazen’s Notch, going to the Champlain Valley Fair, going to the movies, sitting on the porch watching the stars and watching lightening storms.
He is survived by a sister, Ida Levis of St. Albans; and a brother, Clinton Levis of Sheldon. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Hilda Levis, Helen Levis, Hallie (Levis) Grant, and Beverly Levis; brothers, Raymond Levis and Ralph Levis; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Grant.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Center cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

A Funeral Service was held Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette, Deacon assigned to the Island Roman Catholic Parish and St. Anne’s Shrine, officiated. Readings from Scripture were proclaimed and Special Words of Remembrance shared by Gerald’s brother, Ray Henderson.
Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Alburgh Fire and Rescue, Alburgh Town and Village Offices, Beaulac Construction, Blair’s Fuel and Trucking, Swanton Taxi, Poissant Auto, United States Department of Homeland Security including the Customs and Border Protection Service, Barry Callebaut, and Natixis Sales.
The Rite of Committal with full military honors will be held later at the Seguin family lot in St. Francis Xavier cemetery, Winooski. At 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, members of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 and Auxiliary conducted a prayer service led by Commander, Shawn Creller and Chaplain, Eulice Gaudette followed by a Vigil Service officiated by Deacon Vincelette with Scripture Readings by Ray Henderson.
