BETTE A. (BREWSTER) BELLOWS

FAIRFAX -- Bette Alice (Brewster) Bellows, age 77, passed away at her home with loving family by her side early Monday morning Sept. 10, 2001. Bette was born in Cambridge, Vt. on May 17, 1924 daughter of the late Buell A. and Marion (Newton) Brewster.

She was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Class of 1942. She married the love of her life, Frederick G. Bellows, on June 7, 1947 in Cambridge.

She was also a graduate of the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. She loved her nursing career and often spoke of her operating room experiences as a Registered Nurse with the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington which she retired from in 1980.

She was active in her community over the years, offering her nursing skills as a "Community Caregiver" to those in need in her own hometown area. She also enjoyed being a member of the BFA Club and Eastern Star Unity Chapter #17. Bette loved music and took great pleasure in her membership with the Champlain Echos. She was also a fan of Big Band music and so looked forward in her younger years to those special times spent with her husband dancing to the sounds of Sterling Weeds Orchestra playing all of their favorite dance songs.

As a member of the United Church of Fairfax, she was active with the Ladies of the United Church and the United Church Choir. She always found time to participate in the Parkinson Support Group meetings in the St. Albans and Williston which greatly assisted her in battling her debilitating disease. Throughout her whole life, Bette remained a dedicated, respected, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many with always a kind word to say. Her keen sense of humor and genuine compassion for others will greatly be missed. Her passing will be a tremendous loss to all of those who had the distinct pleasure in their life to have known and loved her.

Bette is survived by her loving husband, Frederick G. Bellows, of Fairfax; two sons, Dale Brewster of Fairfax and James Herbert and his wife Leslie of Puerto Rico; a daughter Patti Lynn Smith and her husband Michael of Fairfax; two sisters, Barbara Howard of Colchester and Lucy Brittain of California; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Kimberly, Kathi, Lauri, Nathan, Jessica, and Alison; two great grandchildren, Jared and Mara; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter Cheryl Leigh Ellsworth in July of 1992.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday Sept. 12, 2001 from 2-4and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the United Church of Fairfax on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery, Fletcher.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bette's memory to the United Church of Fairfax, c/o Sally Sweet, Treasurer 44 Sweet Slattery Rd, East Fairfield, Vt. 05448. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home 1176 Main St. Fairfax.

LEONARD A. LAROCHE

SWANTON - Mr. Leonard Albert Laroche, age 84, died peacefully, Sunday morning, Sept. 9, 2001, at the home of his daughter, Francine, in Swanton.

Mr. Laroche was born in Highgate Center, Feb. 18, 1917, son of the late Henri and Maria (Gagne) Laroche. He attended school in Highgate Falls. On Aug. 5, 1939 he married Rachel Gagne.

Mr. Laroche has been a farmer for many years and worked in Carpentry for over 12 years. In 1970, he was employed at the Sheldon Pulp and Paper Mill, first serving in the groundwood mill and then in the raw stock department, where he retired in 1982.

He loved to sing, dance, call square dances, and tell stories and jokes. In 1997, he and his wife made their home with their daughter and son-in-law Francine and Lionel Charbonneau and their children Bradley and Rachel. He was a communicant of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, in Swanton.

He is survived by his 10 children and their spouses; Dolore Laroche and his wife Barbara of Highgate, Germain Laroche and his wife Jane of Freedom, N.Y., Elie Laroche and his wife Sheila of Richford, Denise and her husband Ronald Juaire of Swanton, Gilles Laroche and his wife Charlotte of Chicopee, Mass., Rose Marie and her husband Rene St. Pierre of L'Ange Gardien, Quebec, Canada, Celine and her husband David Thompson of Swanton, Allan Laroche and his wife Ruth of Swanton, Laurette and her husband Patrick Woolhouse of Sullivan, Missouri, Francine and her husband Lionel Charbonneau of Swanton; his brothers and sisters Laurent Laroche of St. Albans, Jean Marie Laroche of Highgate Center, Clement Laroche of St. Albans, Father Leonidas Laroche, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Albans, Florence Plant of Batavia, N.Y., Gertrude Cook of St. Albans, Theresa Paquette of Richford, Yvonne Moreau of Danbury, Conn., Marie-Ange Belanger of Washington Depot, Conn, Rose-Anna Paquette of Swanton; one aunt, Mrs. Pierre (Beatrice) Gagne of Swanton; 32 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind many good and dear friends, including Mary Jane (Donna) Paquette, who helped take care of him in his final years while at the home of his daughter, Francine. Mr. Laroche was predeceased by his wife, Rachel, Feb. 11, 1999, three children, two grandchildren, a great-grandson, two sisters, Lucienne Lambert and Alice Paquette, four brothers-in-law Homer Lambert, James Plant, John Paquette, and John Cook,

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity. His brother, Father Leonidas Laroche, will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., St. Albans, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Laroche family lot in St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate Center. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt.., 05478. Arraignments are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

PAULINE M. DUGGENTO

SWANTON - Mrs. Pauline M. Duggento, age 76, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care center after a brief illness. She was born June 17, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Ouimet) Withington of St. Albans.

On March 4, 1947, she married Guy Duggento. She, along with her husband, Guy, were Eucharistic Ministers at St. Peter's Parish in Dorchester, Mass., until their return to Vermont.

Besides her husband of 54 years, Guy, she is survived by her six children, Louise Connors and her husband Robert of Manchester, N.H., David Duggento and his wife Tina of Medford, Mass., Paulette Duggento of Swanton, Peter Duggento of St. Albans, Teresa Duggento of Swanton, and Marie Martin and her husband Anthony of Oakman, Ala.; two granddaughters, Suzanne and Angels Martin, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at 10:00 in Holy Angels Church.

Interment will follow in the Duggento Family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

GLENNA B. GONYEAU

FAIRFAX - Mrs. Glenna B. Gonyeau, went to be with her heavenly Father, Sept. 7, 2001, while a patient at Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility. She was born in Fairfield, Vt., June 12, 1918 the daughter of the late Augustus and Lena (Bovat) Bachand.

She attended schools in Fairfield and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She married Floyd F. Gonyeau in St. Patrick's Church, Fairfield, Oct. 12, 1939.

Glenna worked with her husband of 62 years in the family farm in Fairfield and was also employed and retired from the former New England Telephone Company. She was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 2326 New England Telephone Co., and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd, several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was pre-deceased by two sisters Beatrice Bushey and Zita McNei, a brother-in-law Ivan Gonyeau, and a sister-in-law Leola Gonyeau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at 11:00 in St. Patrick's Church. Interment will follow in the Bachand Family lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity on ones choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

WILFRED O. VILLENEUVE

ESSEX JUNCTION/SOUTH HERO - Wilfred O. Villeneuve of Essex and South Hero passed away Sept. 6, 2001 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born June 15, 1907 in Stanford, Me., the son of the late Richard and Mary Villeneuve.

Wilfred was happiest when playing cards with his friends at the campground, or his daily game of Phase 10 with his family. He was an avid reader and loved watching birds. He was a lumberjack most of his life, and cut down his last tree at the age of 91. He was a kind, generous and loving person with a dry sense of humor.

He is survived by his three children, Eugene Villeneuve and wife Mary of Johnson, Dalton Villeneuve and wife Salli of Milton, Phyllis Bushey and husband George of South Hero; grandchildren Craig and Mark Bushey, Kenneth, Karen, Jillian, Griffin, Michael, and Gary Villeneuve and wife Jennifer. He also leaves several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Clara (Cross) Villeneuve, grandson Dennis Villeneuve, and a special companion, Erlene Goodleski.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home in Fairfax. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax, with Rev. Dan Rupp officiating.

LOUIS G. YOUNG

SWANTON-Louis G. Young, 83, a life long resident of Swanton, died early Thursday morning, September 6, 2001 in Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility in Stain Albans Town following a long battle with lung cancer.

Lou was born in Swanton on July 18, 1918, the son of the late Gilbert and Maude (Bachand) Young. He graduated from Saint Anne's Academy with the Class of 1937 and on July 20, 1945 he married Barbara Simpson, who predeceased him on December 27, 1993. Lou faithfully served his county as an airborne radio operator aboard combat aircraft in the United States Air Force and flew thirty-five combat missions during W.W.II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Louis was a retired turkey, dairy, and vegetable farmer and in his later years was the Head Custodian of both the Swanton and Milton Elementary schools.

Louis leaves five sons, Allan and Linda young of Bedford, MA, Bruce and Madeline Young of Swanton, Gary Young of St. Albans, David and Becky Young of Sheldon, Brian Young of Swanton, a daughter Jean and Mark Yungfleish of Jerico; a daughter-in-law Kimberly Young of Stanton, N.D., two sisters Doris Bushy and her husband Ralph of Swanton, and Nathalie Stinchfield of Wayne, M.E. Ten Grandchildren, Eric Young and his wife Michelle, Michael Young and his wife Raquel, Todd, Lisa, Aaron, Jonathan, Jennifer, and Sara Young, Becky and Patrick Yungfleich. Three step-grandchildren, Ami, Adam, and Samantha Quiser. A daughter-in-law Kimberly Young of Stanton, N.D.; two great-grandsons, Scott Allan Young and Dylan Michael Young. He also leaves a brother-in-law Clifton Bushey of Swanton and several nieces and nephews. Louis also leaves a very special friend Alberta Beebe of Swanton.

A son, Stephen young, a sister Dorothy Bushey, and a grandson, Scott Young, predeceased Louis.

Lou's family would like to give special thanks to the staff and residence of Verdelle Village as well as Dr. Christian Thomas of the Vermont Center for Cancer Medicine and Dr. Harold Wallace from Fletcher Allen Radiation Center for all of the love, care, concern, and support given to Lou throughout his long illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 10, 2001 at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton Village. Internment will follow in the Young family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, on Sunday, September 9, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Gifts in Lou's memory may be made to Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility, Activity Fund, in care of Penny Pike, 596 Sheldon Road, Saint Albans, 05478

MADONNA A. LONGWAY

LEXINGTON, S.C.-Madonna A. Longway. of Bridle Court, Lexington, S.C. died Tuesday, August 21, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in St. Albans, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Irving A. and Maude R. Paquette.

Madonna is survived by her loving husband Robert E. Longway of Lexington, S.C. (married on October 8, 1955) her devoted husband Robert E. Longway and his wife Bridget of Lexington, S.C.; three devoted daughters: Cynthia Klouse and her husband Daniel of Malta, N.Y., Jeanne Coughlin of Lexington, S.C., and Donna Hogan and her husband John of Malta, N.Y. Madonna is survived by her brother Winston I. Paquette and his wife Doris of St. Albans, V.T.; as well as six cherished grandchildren: Amanda Klouse, Laura and Emily Hogan, all of Malta N.Y.; Gregory and Courtney Longway and William Coughlin, all of Lexington, S.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held August 24, in Glenville, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Corpus Christi Church in Malta. Burial was in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie, N.Y.

The family of Modonna Longway will receive friends on Sunday, September 16, 2001 from 2 -5 p.m. at the residence of Jeffrey and Bridget Longway 112 Appalachian Trail (Bent Creek Plantation) Lexington, S.C.

Memorial Contributions in Madonna's name are requested to be made to Palmetto Baptist Hospital, Breast Cancer Center, Sumter St., Columbia, S.C. 29201

Arrangments are with the Glenville funeral Home of Glenville N.Y., Michael E. DeMarco Director.
